you have an hp  gpu  am i correct?

if you do it is a custom bios and may not  work like a standard  1080.

did you load  msi afterburner and try to use that?

also zotac has a  tweaker

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/zotac-firestorm-download.html

I would  try msi afterburner  4.3

with

75% power
100+ core
300+ memory
75% manual fan

then try  the same settings with zotac firestorm.

Thanks

Looks like I have 5 HP, 1 ASUS, 1 EVGA. They look the EXACT same.

I tried looking up supported clocks for each card and I got the same thing.

Okay  then  the hp bios  could be in conflict  with the evga program  .

load msi afterburner 4.3  and try to set each  gpu with

75% tdp
100+ core
300+ ram
75% manual fan.

this means you don't check the synch  gpu on afterburner

you need to understand it may not be the hp gpu  but you have 7 gpus  that are mixed  and this can cause a conflict in the software you are trying to use.

BTW  trying to run 7 cards can be very hard.
trying to run 7 cards mixed can be impossible.

trouble shooting can be next to impossible

in fact  you could have 1 riser that is weak and it causes the conflict.

5 hp
1 asus
1 evga

is complex.

Why not use the Pentium G4560, it is significantly cheaper, also 2C4T and only has 10% slower clock speeds compare to i3 7100.

I will get one and try it out.  Thanks for the suggestion.

What do you cpu mine with that cpu and what hashrate do you get for it?

XMR, while also mining ZEC on 6x GPUs.  Core i3 averages 70 H/s (~$5 a month) at current settings without interfering with the GPU mining.  I am slowly walking up the intensity of +cpu mining, trying to find the highest settings which don't interfere with the GPUs.

imho even us small miners would like an OS like smOS that would run both AMD and Nvidia that we can access from work, travel, etc. Thanks

Noted

well if it comes down to 2 os's  1 for nvidia and 1 for amd  that  would be good enough for me.

I am drifting   into too many nvidia and not enough  amd.

I need to stop buying the nvidia and wait to see if vega  is  a good card.

I think vega will be good for ZEC.

I agree with Phil
Having to run two os isn't a problem at all
I'm sure smos will have nvidia support sometime
But for now you have my support

Thanks

Quote from: fullzero
The existence of ETC is a major reason why ETH really can't go POS; not that I think it was likely in the first place.
This two statements are intriguing, especially connection between ETH not being able to go POS because of ETC staying POW.
Could you elaborate?

ETH going POS would be like Coke deciding they will no longer produce Coca-Cola Classic, but will only sell Coke zero.

In the future you will get 100:1 chance to get Coke Zero when buying Classic!
https://github.com/ethereum/research/wiki/Casper-Version-1-Implementation-Guide

Their bullshit has its own bullshit.

Called this over a year ago; took 6 months longer than I expected.

The closer you look at ETH; the more questions you will have.

The best thing ETH has going for it is that most people will never read the whitepaper or review any of the code.

I'm betting in 6 months there will be a nerf announcement; which drastically reduces what ETH will actually do.

So with POS essentially being out of the door, the question of Ice Age remains.
As I understand it, its main purpose is to prevent the necessity of another hard-fork.
But this article https://btcmanager.com/ethereum-ice-age-approaches-community-vote-on-mining-reward-cut/
states
Quote
The Ethereum ice age is a mining difficulty adjustment scheme that was created to incentivize miners to switch to the new PoS blockchain. Once the fork is executed, the mining difficulty rises exponentially to a point where it would be impossible for miners to keep up with the difficulty increase that would hike block time and make the blockchain effectively freeze.
So, with POS being postponed (indefinitely?), how will Ehereum deal with bloated blockchain now? Another hardfork is imminent. But it leads to the question of increased difficulty.
In context that is also relevant to our interests, there is also the issue of proposal to reduce the mining rewards in an effort to boost ETH prices.
https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/issues/186
But that proposal was written when ETH was worth less then a dollar.
With current high prices of ETH, the incentive to reduce the rewards diminishes.

So with all this in mind, I am totally confused still. So much smoke and mirrors.
POS coming and not coming at the same time,  increased difficulty on current blockchain to force move to a new blockchain, reduced mining rewards, you name it, ETH has it all!
Please somebody tell me whether I am to go forth and build another (Vega?) rig.

I think gpu miners are a good investment.  Crypto is on the cusp of going mainstream.

ETH is in the business of selling 'the idea of' a magical unicorn POS; which is supposedly everything Bitcoin is, but without anything inconvenient.

Bitcoin was well conceived to survive and work as it has.  Anyone who doesn't see how the choices made in its design have most likely saved it from being destroyed multiple times over; and instead chooses to think of any inconvenience as a deficiency: can go join the ETH cult.

Is this os completely sustainable on its own?
Like I mean burn plug and mine?
I don't need to mess with the interface once the USB is setup?

If you use one of the fully supported motherboards, currently:

ASRock H81 PRO BTC,  BIOSTAR TB85,  MSI Z270-A PRO (in stock)

then yes; it is essentially:

burn, configure oneBash (or replace the one on the usb with one you have already configured), plug and power on.

If you are using an untested motherboard; most likely all the cards will be recognized and mining will automatically start: however their may be slight differences which cause the xorg file to not properly enable OC on all the cards.  This may be hard to notice without directly connecting a monitor and inspecting the mining process.  If using an untested motherboard, you probably should connect a monitor and ensure everything is working as intended ~6 minutes after initial boot.  If you have a motherboard which doesn't properly enable OC on all the cards; tell me.  For any motherboard commonly used, I will get one myself and provide a fully supported image.   Smiley

Phil,

the biostar tb85 will work for sure; use the ASRock H81 PRO BTC or BIOSTAR TB85 image

if any of these mobos don't OC a card let me know and I will get one myself and provide a fully supported image for it.

biostar b150s1 ( try the ASRock H81 PRO BTC or BIOSTAR TB85 image )

biostar z170gt7 ( try the ASRock H81 PRO BTC or BIOSTAR TB85 image )

gigabyte b250m-gaming 3 (  try the MSI Z270-A PRO image )

gigabyte aorus z270 ( try the MSI Z270-A PRO image )

gigabyte ga270-hd3 ( try the MSI Z270-A PRO image )

Edit:  also v0014 is for USB keys only, it will NOT autoboot an SSD or HDD.

IMO USB keys are easier to build and deploy plus are (usually) significantly cheaper.  If you use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-16GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B00S5V5PMY it is also fast enough to even use the GUI with ease.

I now use the lexar usb keys on all my rigs and have a stack of unused SSDs and M2s waiting to be made into a burst or storj or sia rig.

Any experience with 1060 Zotac or evga mini single fan? Contemplating between that or evga gaming dual fan. Seems like the obvious choice would be a dual fan card unless blower style but maybe they use less power.

zotac 1060 mini 6gb card is pretty good I rna it for 20 days and then returned it to amazon as  I don't have room for lots of mobos and cards.

In a world of magic  where I get all the gear I want all the time I would have a few hundred of these mobos
at least one dozen  of the boards would have 8 zotac 1060 minis

https://i.imgur.com/Xt0p6BI.png

I think I may have just picked out my first GPU mining gear purchase, Phil.  Thanks for the info!  Room isn't an issue for me.  Got 2500 sq ft just costing me money right now. Smiley

I already asked that question - but did not get a clear answer.

Is it possible to modify BIOS for 1080ti card using the same tools as for RX 480? Can be that BIOS flashed with the same tools as we are doing with RX 480?

Just did a little testing with 2 x 1080 ti Founder Editions Smiley

Power limit - 80%
Core clock - default
Memory clock +800
Fan speed - 70%

Those settings land me around 1771 core / 11610 memory and 530W at the wall for ~36.7 Mh/s per card
This system is a Supermicro motherboard with dual Xeon 2670 CPU's and 128GB ram, so system power is pretty high.

ZEC and other coins give far better results at considerably less power
For instance I can get ~1050 sol/s for only 370W at the wall, which is ~4.2 sol/W

1050 sol / 370w with one card?

Is it possible to run amd And NVIDIA cards on the same rig ?

Yes - but in general the machine will end up being somewhat less stable than running a "pure" rig one way or the other.

Easy to do on Windows 7 or 10 (almost the ONLY think Windows does better than LINUX), can be done under LINUX but the installation of drivers is a bit more complicated.

So if I have a rig with 5x SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon R9 280X DirectX 12 100363VX-3L 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support TRI-X WITH BOOST (UEFI) Video Card

I want to add another card to this rig, I am planning to mine zcash with it --- I want to add the most effective card to this rig, what would everyone suggest?

Buy a kill-a-watt meter and see how much power you are pulling on the rig.

those cards pull heavy power.

Let us know the watts you use at the meter
Let us know the hashrate you have
Let us know your power cost.

I may suggest buy no more cards until you sell  off some of the r9 280x cards.
I would like to  give you correct advice.

If possible I'd like to keep those cards, with that in mind would it be possible to add another card and if so what?

it can do up to 4 cards

I used an evga 750 p2 psu

I used a monitor connected via  the nvidia and a usb mouse and a usb keyboard.

the screen came up

1 unbutu
2 advanced
3 memtest
4 memtest
5 win 10 dev

I waited it went to unbutu 16.04  and hung

this unit has an intel i3 6100 cpu

I will test with a new mobo and an intel i5 7500

Looking for some advice, I'm a little confused on how to best cool a farm of open air rigs on shelves.

With an open-air rig of non-reference GPUs, should I be pushing cool air over the rear of the rig and pulling hot air from the front where the GPUs are? Or is it the other way around?
