Phil you're awesome!
I have some of those motherboards on the way, also I have a z170 with 4 PICEx16 - spacing is going to be tight for a 4 card 1080TI no riser but I'm going to run it just to see how long it can go. Should get here monday.
My new bottleneck - these stupid Corsair 750's only have 2... TWO! 4+4/6+1 power ports. The Rosewill 850w you suggested does have 4 PCIE power lines, so I just need to get some more cables that have 2 sets of 6+2's in them, I ran out. I upgraded a dozen 1070's to 1080Ti's today - hardware always takes longer than you expect. Was expecting to unscrew, unplug, swap and be done. The power cords threw me for a huge loop.
I was thinking about running power from my 1500w EVGA but I actually don't have long enough cables for that either.
So back to the drawing board.
the gigabyte board will do 3 with no risers. 1080ti 1080 ti 1070 mini here are two builds on the biostar z170 3 with no risers 1080ti 1080 ti 1070 https://i.imgur.com/dg0TGrW.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/0YKAiAO.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/Vyc6l9f.jpgPhil, appreciate all the effort and time you put in to share your knowledge. Almost pulling the trigger on my first build, shopping list if you can see if I am forgetting anything: -2x MSI 1080ti FE -1x Zotac 1070 Mini I have switched this out to this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137092-1x EVGA 850w Gold -1x Gigabyte GA-Z270P -1x Intel G4400 Skylake -1x Crucial 4GB DDR Ram -1x ADATA 128GB SSD Puts the tab around $2.1k from Newegg, little more than your parts list from another thread where you were at 1950 or so. note the msi aero is shorter then the zotac I switched to it. Any suggestion for which 1080ti to go if they are all same priced? the blower style msi aero is better then the founder edition if you get a deal on the evga founder edition they have top notch rma service. the gigabyte z270 can do add-ons with risers I ran as many as five so far. 3 with the slots and 2 with risers. I just two 15 dollar coupons from ebay today so I grabbed https://i.imgur.com/orNyrvP.pngtwo accounts one is mine one is the wifes the mobo can do 3 riser less and in the winter I can add cards https://i.imgur.com/In7wZBm.pngthis is a 200 dollar cpu for 130 six months to pay it. no payments or interest It can be sold back for 150 easy on ebay and will not drop in price for around 2 years. https://i.imgur.com/LkRcnYC.pngThanks for the coupon. So for now, I am planning to get: gigabyte z270p 2 x EVGA 1080 ti MSI Aero GTX 1070 ITX 8G OC EVGA G3 1000W PSU My question now is, how many more cards will I be able to add via risers with this PSU? I would like to add up 2 or 3 more in the future. Also, do you have any other 1070 models you would suggest for risers since the space wouldnt be a issue for those?

No more pm's or emails for advice will be answered. Just too much volume on rig advice.
Too many people looking to riff off the designs here. Note riff not rip off
No one offers a tip I am not asking for that.
I have answered 10 emails and 80 pms in the last week on how to tinker the designs here.
I don't mind answering here.
Ask on the thread. I will try to answer.

I will be doing the give away thread picks will start in about 4-5 days. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1932641.0it takes time to run that. and time to run this and time to do test builds so any little bit helps.

Phil, WTF, check your PM's and your emails. I also text messaged and tried to facetime you. And skyped you. You didn't answer any of them yet. Hurry up! Man I've been back and forth to Best Buy and the local shop all day today, grabbed 3 motherboards, only 1 worked but only slots 1 & 2 GPU's work, slot 3 doesn't work so it's a 2 card rig for now. The other 2 boards I'm taking back right now. Going to get some more boards to play with and hope they work. All this really does take up a ton of time. lol

I switched off skein and am doing Zec via nicehash. Runs a bit cooler. Still does not earn as much as skein. But I jump to Zec one or two days each week.

Smart - for the past 3 hours Skein earnings are zero - it's basically flatlined, how that is possible I have no idea. Maybe the graph is messed up or something but i don't know how my earnings are going sideways and not up lol. Guess I'll swap it over to Zec myself.

same here, I too noticed that for about an hour there is no earnings, though the hash is being registered, I guess there might be a problem with reward distribution. I mine at zpool.ca though. Regards, BLife

Phil do you have a preference in brand for the 1070 or is it just price?

Phil, what is your advice? I have to choose between this GB models: AORUS GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti 11G GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC 11G http://www.gigabyte.com/Comparison/Result/3?pids=6275,6262The difference in the prices is about $43. Do you think the higher core clock and the better(is it really better) cooler cost $43?

I have around 6 Aorus and from my experience I would say, when you build your rig please leave ample space between the cards(add a high cfm fan pushing air from the front), and I recently go the extreme edition of it and the huge copper place dispenses a lot of heat, keeping the card cool but if you place the next gpu nearby that heat is sucked into it creating a chain effect. Hope this helps Regards, BLife

So if you go riser route here are links for very good long usb 3.0 cables This allowed me to space the card further away 3 ft vs 2 foot https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HEPM6L4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?4 ft https://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-USB-3-0-Cable-SuperSpeed/dp/B00D8JFNO8/ref=sr_1_1?you will get enough space with the longer cables. This was another reason for me to pass on more aorus my space is small for the rigs.

philipma1957, have you ever tried to have multiple type of GPUs in the same motherboard?
I'm having issues with 4x XFX 470, MSI 470 and Saphire 570. The issue is with drivers and the windows is not accepting them in the Device manager!
When I connect the MSI and 570 the windows doesn't get logged in, but I get only black screen sometimes and sometimes it just freezes at Welcome.

Yes and it can work fine or not. The aorus 1080ti is clocked high to start so on msi afterburner if I set its core at 250 it crashes the msi aero 1080 ti is clocked lower to start so on msi afterburner if I set its core to 250 it works. So If I mix the two above I can not check the synch box for settings and clock core at 250 I can synch at 160 as my aorus likes a core of 160 but this makes the hash on the msi aero pretty low. So I don't check synch and do 2 different settings for the 2x 1080 ti's this is one example of 2 like and 1 different. and 2 like and 2 different

philip sorry to derail this thread, here you mentioned that you might build an enclosure for the rigs, and you pointed to radiator fans, I was browsing this forum and came across a post by MarkAz, that those fans may be not good enough here so if you do go ahead, please be careful. I too was looking for an alternative, but no luck so far Regards, BLife

IMG and 2 like and 2 different IMG When I see these rigs this motivates me, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with my Rig, If it put only 3 GPUs (3x XFX RX 470) it works well, sometimes i get only 4MH/s on GPU 0 (dont know why) But still when I put a different type of GPU, in the Claymore I get red text and it exits, when I go to Manage Devices I see a yellow warning on 2-3 graphics and that's the error 43 which tells me to remove them or install the drivers, i tried with a patch then restart it works only for that GPU not for others.
