I didn't know he received shirt number 7 till I just read your post. Only the club's brightest players are given the number 7, and the majority of them go on to become club legends. Ever since Eric Cantona made the number 7 an iconic number, eyes have been fixed on it. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo also accomplished legendary feats while wearing the number 7. It is not a good idea to bring in a new player and put too much pressure on him to replicate icons because this could make the player perform poorly under pressure. Before giving him the number 7, they could have waited at least a season, when he would have been more comfortable.

Mason Mount just needs to strengthen his mentality at Manchester United because if you know the history of the number 7 shirt and when the player's performance doesn't live up to expectations the results will be painful for the player personally. Barcelona seems very fond of getting players who are free agents and maybe it's as a way to avoid spending for the club. After getting Ilkay Gundogan for free, now it's Inigo Martinez's turn and the clause fee is the same as Gundogan's of 400 million euros.
