I don't understand the workings behind the signing process but, to me, it looks like you can write a program that can take any address and your own message to create a signature so that you can pretend it's your address. We really should close this down as early as possible as there will be new stragglers slowly trickling in who will want to pay after a few days. There are other group buys going and someone could create another one. If Arklan likes doing this he can start a second group buy.

You can only sign with a sending address if the private key for that address is in your wallet. You would need to break the private key cryptography central to bitcoin in order to do what you describe. If you can do that, there's $1 billion available for the taking, so get to it.

Thanks guys! Also, i was wondering. Sometimes multiple addresses are used from a wallet to send BTC, do i just choose one to sign the message if that happens?
(and a note, you only need to use one of the from addresses.) Also the send address may be a change address, so not accessible through the QT GUI. Im pretty sure i understand what you mean. A "change address" has fractions of bitcoins that just hang there?

ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) Timer removed. End time: 2013-05-10+04:18:59 If less than 300 have been paid for and there are unpaid orders after the deadline, most likely existing customers will increase their orders, or serious unpaid orders will find a way to pay.
Any delays will cost customers over 4.5BTC a day, so it would be more cost effective to pay in extra to get additional units than it would be to wait for late arrivals.

A change address is described here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change it is important to note your wallet GUI does not display the change addresses in the address book. (the real world ramifications are back up your wallet.dat regularly) It is not a problem when you send BTC, but if it comes out of a change address you need to follow Klestin advice here: Here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195052.msg2078386#msg2078386 to find the send address.

The profitability of this little USB unit is about 0.015BTC per day. (see http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ ) This will last until the next bunch of Asics is released in the comming months. Given the 0.015BTC profitability will diminish fast, every day is important in recouping costs. It should be understood that keeping the order books open will be costing the group about 4.5BTC ($500) a day. That can't be recouped once the difficulty changes.
So processing the order book as soon as possible, is in the best interest of the paid group. While it will be nice to get these as soon as possible, my understanding is that these are not not yet ready to ship out yet. So there is no gain from hurrying right now and closing out earlier. Has this status changed?

The gain is getting in line ahead of other (potentially large) orders. We need to get the order in as soon as we hit 597. Does anybody in this group want to risk delays to benefit stragglers?

Greed versus fairness. (The stated rules.) The window to place an intent to buy closes 48 hours from original post. The window to pay is another seven days. At that point the order with ASICMiner can be made. Everyone who has paid is in. Everyone who has not is out. Doing anything other than that is changing the rules in mid-game. I have never seen where that is considered 'fair play'.

The unknown here is ASICMiner's order queue. Presumably they're taking orders right now, so our place in line is not set. How many will they ship in the first batch, and how quickly will that batch go out? Being the 1st order in line or the 10th may make a large difference in shipment date or it may make none at all. Clearly the faster we close this out and submit the order, the better.

First batch is going to be 10,000 pieces. I see no reason to rush it especially when in a post made 4th May Friedcat said there is going to be a lead time of 15-20 days, so anythink isn't going to get shipped out before 19th May.

There is a fair alternative...
Accounting nightmares. John K. is doing escrow. For a fee. Dealing with that kind of accounting, refunds hither and yon, is not part of his commitment.

You're assuming there aren't non-group purchases being made? Group buys are for individuals. Retailers and ebay marketers may have made other orders.

Would you like to bet 1 BTC that this group and the Euro group are the only ones who are going to place an order?
