Thanks Arklan, got my shipping #.

Though like previous poster, pasting it into the USPS site comes up nada (even the corrected # you sent in the 2nd email).  Guessing the package will eventually show up in the system, or better yet arrive at my door.  Not worried about it, just thought I'd report.

Ugh :/

It looks like one of my sticks has already died.  She was running okay for awhile, but then just stopped responding.  I've tested her on two different computers, with and without hub, both Linux and Windows.  No joy.

On Windows, it just says the device is not working.  On Linux, dmesg says:

Code:
[62463.822230] usb 3-3: new full-speed USB device number 42 using xhci_hcd
[62463.822391] usb 3-3: Device not responding to set address.

[62465.788090] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3

All the other sticks are running fine ... for now.

Arklan, I'm going to tinker with this stick for a little while longer, but in the meantime let me know how to handle getting a replacement.  I'm sure you're excited to do more shipping, huh!? Wink

Like all shipping services, it takes awhile for their systems to update.  Give it a day.

A subtle advantage of a minimalist design.

I was planning to wait until the 2nd/3rd generation ASIC's came out before getting into mining, but if/when this form factor gets down into the sub-$25 range I'll be sorely tempted to buy a good USB hub and go to work.  Except...

...now I'm paranoid about the popularity of sha256 in the future world and think it might be nice to have at least access to some FPGA.

I think you (~fpgaminer) do some design work on FPGA stuff, right?  Looks like USB power is just not practical for any semi-decent FPGA.  Have you ever thought about a tiny headless SBC with whatever FPGA can be run via PoE?

i got all my USB miners +1 arklan

insert happy, 1 footed, dance here.

also, two things of note:
bfgminer only displays up to 14 devices. Sad

and... despite being VERY careful about packing stuff correctly and double and triple checking... there's... uh... 5 extra. which makes no sense at all, cause they were sent in boxes of 10, which means i either got 535 (impossible) or 540, and am actually MISSING 5. i figure i musta missed someone with an order of 5 or something. obviously, the spreadsheet doesn't reflect this. as far as i can tell i haven't missed anyone. any thoughts are welcome.

Didn't you originally get extras to account for possible defective units?

yes. but the mentioned 5 are above that. i have 28 total here. my 5, the 19 extra, and an additional 5. i'll treat them as warranty replacements, i'm just confused how they... well, exist.

I'll be truly impressed with this group if some a-hole does not come back with a bogus report of 5 missing units.  I hope to god that you end up being able to mine with them given the magnitude of the group-buy coordination effort.

I wish I could record the beautiful light show that these put on at night, but I don't have a video camera capable of recording those light levels.

How many are you mining with?  How hot does all that get?  What do you have them plugged into?  Looks like you will, from now on, have to stop complaining about how little BTC you have Tongue

In other news... have you sent out all the tracking info by now?  If so... I have yet to receive mine...  maybe those some of those "extra" USB's are mine.  Heck... just to be sure you should mail me the extra Tongue  but in all seriousness... google doc says shipped, but no tracking info from you yet.

The Good News

Units Arrived and Unpacked

All Plugged In

Mining Away Alongside The Avalons

The Bad News

The 10-port Anker hub did not work with my Raspberry Pi (Arch Linux) :/  The RasPi recognizes the hub, but it reported errors in trying to recognize the USB Block Erupters.  Using a different hub, the RasPi recognizes the USB-BEs just fine.  So that's disappointing.  I have all 10 running off my Windows desktop for now, until I can figure out a solution.  I'd probably order and try a BeagleBone Black instead, but I hear it's still unstable.

Quick note: I had to give the sticks a good push to get them plugged all the way in.  It was easy to plug them in enough to receive power, but not enough to connect properly.  Had to give 'em a couple extra Newtons to plug all the way in and function.  Luckily the Anker hub has a blue LED that only lights up when they're connected correctly.

I had similar issues with raspi + hub detecting ztex. Forcing USB to 1.1 solved the issue.
need to add
Code:
dwc_otg.speed=1
to /boot/cmdline.txt  and reboot.

Edit: The above is for raspbian... Arch Linux ur on your own.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I had tried that, and various other tweaks, but nothing worked.  It looks as if the RasPi likes only a select few USB 3.0 hubs.  Quite disappointing, but it's hard to complain about a $40 computer.

Another thing to try ... cut/block the +5v connector...

I bought a belkin hub ... given that many belkin models are verified to work.... but this one didnt... i had to force 1.1 and it did. So i guess moral of the story is only buy hubs verified to be working...
