Are you guys running your cgminer as root? That makes me uncomfortable. I get these messages when run as a normal user:

[2013-06-03 13:44:35] USB init open device failed, err -3, you dont have priviledge to access - AMU device 7:3
[2013-06-03 13:44:35] Icarus detect (7:3) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

When run with sudo, it acts like it didn't detect the block erupter. Any ideas?

https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer/blob/master/01-cgminer.rules
copy that into your udev rules and restart udev.

^ That takes care of the sudo issue. If you still have issues, then follow along..,

Make sure to unplug and plugin the thing again. running cgminer 3.2.0 will unmap the device from the serial interface.

Then downgrade to cgminer 3.1.1 (older or newer versions wont work)
then start cgminer with following additional arguments
Code:
--icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100 -S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1 -S /dev/ttyUSB2

the -S is repeated for each device you got.

Another approach might be to add your non-root user account to the group which the devices are in.

In my case the group name is "dailout".

xx@xxxxxx ~ $ ll /dev/ttyUSB*
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jun  3 13:52 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jun  3 13:51 /dev/ttyUSB1
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 2 Jun  3 13:52 /dev/ttyUSB2
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 3 Jun  3 13:51 /dev/ttyUSB3
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 4 Jun  3 13:51 /dev/ttyUSB4
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 5 Jun  3 13:52 /dev/ttyUSB5
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 6 Jun  3 13:51 /dev/ttyUSB6
crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 188, 7 Jun  3 13:52 /dev/ttyUSB7

NOTE: I'm not using cgminer. Adding the non-root user to the dialout group is what I did to resolve permissions issues when using MPBM on Raspbian / Debian.

Fedex International Ground to Canada. Now you can understand why I was annoyed with the muilti-day shipping delays.

this :/ I didn't say anything but I wasn't too please about it either. I ordered from Canary's group buy several days later and it looks like those will show up before the one from this order. Thankfully it's only a single here, and 5 from the other group buy.

Mine arrived today no customs fees or VAT or such  , I'm trying to put it working on win7 64bits, cgminer 3.2.0 no success... will try now at 3.1.1 version.

The Fedex Envelope  had a hole  Huh Fedex delivery want to know what was that? Cheesy but smart arklan had another protected envelope inside.

@arklan
i want to know how many $ you had to pay for my ship + customs and duties , as i said before i only accepted to pay if was <= 2,50 BTC for all. I know you may paid more than this... If so send me a address to pay the difference to 2.50 BTC.

About the warranty devices i would suggest arklan to mine with them, and maybe someone said before after 6 months divide 500+ USB devices - minus handle fee electricity, or simply goes to arklan, and more fast we can trade the minimum of 10 bad units.

don't worry about it tidus. the shipping and customs, i mean.

others: argh. i feel i did horribly. all i can do is apologize and offer some btc to compensate. pm me if you want to talk about it.

photon: seems likely the random five are yours then. i have some defectives to mail out, and the last order actual order as well. i'll get yours included.

however, should you get a package... let me know.

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

Bolded above...  apparently if you test cgminer 3.2.0, it won't work at all after that, even after switching back to 3.1.1. You have to replug the device. Thanks for the help.

Received my product today, got it hashing within minutes (cgminer 3.1.0, win 7 x64).

Big thanks to Arklan and John K for their amazing work in this group buy!

My local mail courier didn't bother to ring the doorbell today and it is for a package that I need to sign for.  So he left a card in my mailbox telling me I can go to the postoffice tomorrow to pick it up.   Undecided

A question for those of you running these block erupters on their raspberry pi:
Where in /dev/ do you find these?  Is it /dev/ttyUSB1 or /dev/bus/usb/ or somewhere like that?  Does some driver need to be installed for them to show up?  I plan on trying to use bfgminer first with the -S all option.

They will show up as /dev/ttyUSBx. No need to install a driver, the USB2Serial driver is preinstalled on a rpi. Smiley
