Sorry, if this question has already been answered, but I'm wondering why the body of your TerraHash DX large is so damn expensive?
15BTC (currently 1500$) for a case, a psu and some fans/brackets, etc.? I'm really interested in buying one of those miners, but common..
This stuff shouldn't cost more than 3BTC.

Ya I thought it was way too expensive at first, but then I started thinking about it.

It is expensive, but you couldn't buy even just the PSU for 3BTC. 10 chips will use ~1300W, so you're looking at a 1.5-1.6kW PSU, preferably something 80Plus Gold or better to reduce heat and consumption. Those criteria really narrow down your list of potential PSUs, and none of them are cheap. Then you've got half a dozen fans (120mm? 140mm?), which is easily another 1BTC.

Then remember that the whole thing is a custom designed, custom built enclosure, which prolly isn't cheap. You can't just log onto Newegg or eBay and pick one up for $50. I have no idea what it even costs then to make, with or without the brackets inside.

And then remember that they are selling these for a profit, which is why they do all of this to begin with. It's still on the high side, but nothing absurd.

So how many here are on the short list for Tuesday?

I figure: 10,000 chips divided by 16 per K16 Board, is 625 small boards or 156 large boards.

We don't yet know the USD they are will be asking but we should assume at least 100% mark-up on the chip price (so as to be able to buy twice as many chips) plus the cost of the board and MOB, plus the operating costs of their SMT line, plus paying themselves. So maybe the wiser here can throw some more numbers at this and come up with a guesstimate of what they need to ask for their products.
I wonder if there will be/should be a maximum # per customer per round?  It would keep in the spirit of "decentralized"  and "P2P" I think. I am sure that there are many here with the funds ready to buy out the lot, I would hate to see that happen. I mean we are talking about 2,820Gh/s lets not lose sight of the responsibility of such power. That is almost 2% of today's network speed.

I see your view, but people could already do massive purchases of ASIC's that are in people's hands (with enough money) and GPU's to take a significant portion of the hash rate as it is.

It seems like your post is implying that there should be a maximum of these chips each person can buy?

Not really, I guess the point i was trying to make is: it makes no difference to TH whether they sell 12 boards to 100 people or 100 boards to 12 people, either way they will be selling. But to you or I there is a big difference in what they choose to do. Maybe you have 10k laying around but I dont, nor would I have the resources to power a farm, but keeping in the spirit of the idea of BitCoin is what I was suggesting. But they will do what they wish.

I don't know about you but if I were them, I'd be piecing together a board for testing if I had gotten chips and a pcb in hand.  I know that he was asking BKK about specific parts and what was available in quantity. Since they will be the first proxy testing for BKK's design, they have pledged to share all data with him to speed the completion of the project. The sooner the Klondike board is finished the sooner we can all hash with it.

I have exactly 7BTC waiting for 64 board, and that news about usd payment are damn bad to me. I invested a lot (for me), and now, if they convert the price, I will have very hard time to buy anything... Please stick with the original plan. Many people are not prepared to changes.

I'm sure you can still buy them with Bitcoins as they stated. They are only adding other ways to pay like Pay Pal. And for those that are wondering the USD price multiply the Bitcoin price buy the average Price in USD per Bitcoin.

So if you buy 8 Bitcoins worth of equipment you will pay 8 times 115 =  $920. Unless Pay Pal is charging them extra fees.

I'm just concerned that it could be a complete fraud.

It looks like your solder process went well. Did you use leaded solder?

Can you speak about any issues you had while soldering the chips or any other info you can disseminate?

Sorry for not being to update the prices in USD. We have been busy assembling the first Klondike 16 board for testing.

We have successfully assembled a Klondike 16 board. Here are some pictures:

Its still missing one component (a capacitor), that we will be getting on Monday, and the power connector, which arrives on Monday too. We will start testing this next week.

great work. I will buy the miner at the fisrt time.

according to the official website of TerraHash, there is an option for the power supply. Does the power supply is universal at the voltage of 12V?

So the assembly house does not solder on the 6-pin power connector? Interesting.

What software are you going to run the K16's with?

Are you providing software along with assembled boards? Assembled boards are nice, but if there is no software to run it, there is no point in assembling it.

Are you going to donate some boards to software developers for them to write it (Bkkcoins, Ckolivas, etc)...Huh

I'm guessing the boards are soldered by hand? Possibly a machine is used?

It takes a certain technique to solder IC chips like Assics by hand. Sort of a swipe from left to right instead of soldering each pin individually.

60/40 Solder with tin and lead is what I always use. The flux is cleaned off the boards with alcohol and then sealed with Humiseal.
