It is because bitcoin is still the number one leading crypto currency for a very long time. I believe it started way back in 2009. This may be the reason why people prefer it the most over all others. Also, they feel much secured when using it.

Because contrary to popular belief, altcoins with faster and cheaper transactions do not have better tech than bitcoin does. They either have too low volume to have scaling problems, completely centralized or just have bigger blocks (which is a retarded solution to scaling problem). Bitcoin has its own problems but is the most reliable coin we have.
