I believe that they're popular mainly because well it was the first of all cryptocurrencies to be made. Honestly most of the other coins are scams and greedy ways that the developers make money. The only other coin I can think of that isn't a scam are dogecoins! What do you think?

for me why is bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrecy is because Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency invented by Satoshi Nakamoto of Japan and now in use for transaction globally. There is a very limited supply of bitcoins globally and mining is a costly affair as well. Moreover, with the increase of trading the price of bitcoin is soaring up and thus making it more and more popular.
