Stunna & Crew -- Here's my idea regarding the current faucet and how it could change for the better.  It's a difficult one for me to explain, so hopefully its understood what my idea is.

  • Allow users to have a "faucet address" that they can deposit to.
  • There is a max amount of BTC that can be requested from this address (say, ~5,000-10,000 sats) every 60 seconds.  So I deposit .01 BTC that'll keep me good for 200 faucet claims at 5,000 sats a claim.
  • If you withdraw from this address, you relinquish your ability to claim a faucet.
  • Levelling at the site can act as  "interest accrued" and your faucet balance can be increased simply by playing more
  • The higher the balance you have in this account, the more interest you accrue.  Kind of similar to investing in the bankroll, but not attached to the bankroll
  • Lower level (first timer) accounts can automatically get 5,000 sats deposited to this account with a 250 sat limit.  Again, leveling helps increase the amount claimable

Obviously there's a lot more ideas that could revolve around this that I haven't listed, but it's just an idea that can be built upon.   Or shunned as being fucking retarded.  You decide.

I don't really understand your idea.
think this is silly, i wont send 0.01 to my faucet if i could deposit and gamble

Exactly.  For the people that are really adamant about having a faucet, this is a solution that brings perks with it and helps weed out the farmers.  For everybody else that would deposit anyways, they shouldn't have to worry about it.

in my country 0.1 is a month's pay
will say no more
edit: i can no longer see just-dice
Just-dice isn't functional anymore but was the most popular until a few months ago; it had something like 50,000 btc invested from players. The owner, Dooglus, shut it down (paying out every last satoshi of invested and player balances!) because as I undertood it he couldn't deal with the responsibility and/or legal situation.

I can understand that for some people 0.1 btc is a lot but i'm talking WHALES here. You know, the people who bet huge amounts like AKcoinminer (profit of +500 btc one day and -700 btc the next) or that guy from just-dice who bet 300 btc a bet (edit: nakowa I think it was). For those people the faucet is utterly meaningless. That's why I mentioned it. Besides, why would a site want a whale to originate from the faucet; that would mean they would loose btc on that player  Wink

I think it is great for people that don't have a lot of money that there is a faucet and I think it should stay but on the other hand I can see that something needs to change with regard to the spamming of the chat and the support emails. What that change needs to be I don't know but let's hope it is something everybody can live with.

im pretty sure there isnt a whale on the site that didnt try the faucet first
Most whales don't need the faucet and don't give a shit about the few satoshis it dispenses... I know I don't and i'm by no means a whale (yet)
lets allow a whale to make their statement regarding the matter, whales wont care but there will be no future whales if ppl cant come and test the site without risking the money in their wallets

I wager 1-10BTC on frequent basis' on PD, if you consider that whale, and I frequenlty use the faucet when I don't have coin in my wallet.
I care about my faucet as I make change off it every so often...I'm sure most whales agree that they want their faucet and so do I.
I'm pissed off that mine was lowered already...I was making steady bank until the change hit

See, that's the thing. The faucet isn't meant for people to "make steady bank" from.

It's to get new players started, and to keep old players on the site until their next paycheck...

I've been playing moneypot recently. I'll deposit 1 BTC and either lose it or work it up to 1.5 or 2 BTC then withdraw it. I don't like to leave it on the site for too long because I know I'm likely to lose it if I do.

Sometimes I'm bored, go back to the site, but don't want to deposit. I can hit up the faucet for 2 bits (200 satoshis) and play. It's just dust, it means nothing. If I'm lucky I can get up to 1 US cent's worth of coin, but it gives me something to do there when the chat is dead.

If there wasn't a faucet, I don't know whether:

a) I'd stop visiting so much, or
b) I'd deposit more often

It could go either way.

Same with PrimeDice. I have dust in my account, from the faucet and I guess from a recent promotion. Sometimes I bet the dust. I don't want to deposit "real" money there, and am happy for the most part to just play with the dust.

I started with faucet to get a feel of the game. I was new to dicing until I came to play at primedice so the faucet is how I learned to play. I went from freeloading the faucet to wagering 550+ BTC.

I am a regular on Primedice and deposit a few times per week, but in between those deposit I depend on the faucet to have fun. What will we do while waiting for a deposit that can take more than an hour?

Faucet, leveling up, and tips is what keeps me coming back to this site. Everything factors into the user experience and these things is what keeps people hook on your site.

If another dice site copys you and open up a faucet, they will take away 70-80% of your regular customers.

Stunna, if you value the user experience and the "fun" factor to the game, please leave faucet as is.

This is really well put and I think EarthBound is probably the "happy model" for what you expected from the faucet.  End faucet abuse and the support spam that goes with it, not the faucet.

Thanks for Primedice!

There probably are plenty of best case scenarios but the faucet is what causes the majority of spam on the website and account level farming/sales. How about an alternative that still rewards leveling up but in a less spammy and more difficult to game way?
Stunna, can we see some proof of accounts being sold for farming?

A mod said in chat this afternoon that it's 99% chance of removal. I think the decision has been made more or less, the solutions has been posted some pages back when he first asked - it can be fixed with ease.
