I fully support the demolition of the faucet because it brings down the quality level of the chat. There are plenty of dedicated faucet sites that you can easily find on the Internet. Hint: Google.com.

In my honest opinion, the faucet is more of a curse than a blessing. The amount of issues it has caused has been substantial, not just on the support email front but in chat too, and over such insignificant amounts. By adding a faucet it effectively brought in a new demographic of people in - not players - people in, and those are the people who spend 5 hours a day scavenging at faucet sites to bring home 0.0001 BTC each day. Why they do that? No idea, but to most of them PD is just another faucet site.

I'm not saying all faucet users are bad, I do use the faucet for some "yolo" bets (I guess) every once in a while and so do some others, but the problem with bringing in that demographic is that 75% of those people will throw a temper tantrum if they don't get their dust successfully. It is one of the peculiar phenomena created by the Bitcoin community.

With that in mind, here are my personal suggestions:

a) You could just remove faucet. There would probably be a loss in users but the vast majority of those users would just leech the faucet anyway;

b) Keep the faucet as a promotion which is activated and deactivated by admins; (Implement an admin command which flicks a Boolean which allows faucet to be claimed)

c) Make it so you unlock 1 faucet use every x amount wagered.

a) has obvious benefits.

b) will still have the same problems as before but it will be MUCH more manageable.

c) will still have some problems of people complaining but it will be more manageable and faucet farming/abusing will basically be eradicated.

Well as I said:  Tongue Tongue

I'm pondering the removal of the faucet more seriously now, the cost of it has significantly decreased but the incredible amount of support emails that center around the faucet itself or amounts under 0.0005 from faucet bettors along with a much larger userbase has decreased the quality of the support we can offer severely. Many argue that it must be removed as it lowers the quality of the chat and community as well.

What are the thoughts of everyone and if faucet is removed what should levels be used for?

Thanks

Well tbh removing it all completely would make the site no different from the rest. The level/faucet update was the main attraction for frequent gamblers. I agree it attracted too many free loaders but there could be a system placed to avoid non depositors abusing faucet or accounts that been sold purely for its faucet level.

Few ideas:

1. Make a secondary balance on an account made for faucet plays. Make it only withdraw-able after getting to $x  not x btc that way you dont lose a lot of cash if it is reached with a requirement of 1 BTC gambled to withdraw $x amount of faucet wins. Most would bust with greed if you raise it and add that requirement.

2. Another idea I emailed was adding offers to unlock faucet a few items a day as long as you played $x/Xbtc such day through your own deposit. Making the faucet random as well with chance to get higher amounts based on levels + total wagered, every time they win a high amount x LVLs is lost making so that people will HAVE TO DEPOSIT AND PLAY again to have better chance to obtain higher faucet. Basically like a reset.

3. Or simply make weekly levels that reset on Sunday. That way to obtain faucet whether random amounts or constant as it currently is is only obtainable if you actually deposit and play frequently.

I do admit incorporating such things might be a pain and a bit of cost but I think something like the last two ideas would benefit everyone. Completely removing chat messages for XP should've been done already, as well as creating requirements to receive tips.

Biggest issues in my eyes

1. Receiving tips have no requirements so when HRs are playing they spam them on chat/PMs also people can easily bank .0005 won from faucet over and over until they wanna cash out

2. People leech and grow faucet without ever depositing.

3. Chat spam for faucet levels or "rain"

If you add requirements to receive tips it gets rid of a lot of the horde of beggars that never really chat and just leech faucet. Or simply spam every now and then to raise XP; usually when HRs are on. The tip requirement would also mean no constant .0005 banking of just faucet wins, its outrageous that non depositors get to do that and have won huge amounts like that.

Hell someone said they earn $1.2 an hour with faucet, bit sad but still thats pretty outrageous since they never actually deposit and play anything.

Compare it to a casino (derp) they have members club points where regular players get bonuses for every X amount of money wagered. They also have an initial free $5 or so for new sign ups.

It's basically the faucet, its meant for new users to test the site and have a small chance to win something out of nothing. Then bring in actual players to play regularly whilst getting a little bonus for being a frequent player.

3 birds with one stone.  Grin

Or simply remove tip function, reduce faucet to 250-500 sats fro newbies and 1k faucet for regulars every 10+minutes, osrta reverting back to PD2 style.  Roll Eyes

Well if the faucet gets removed i'm guessing the original meaning for levels is lost.

*If PD wants to concentrate on mainly big rollers i'm guessing a progressive house edge could work or at least it would be rather unique. The higher your level the smaller the house edge, like remove a % of the house edge per level ? Something along those lines.

*Maybe it could also be implemented into the support system. So the higher your level the higher the priority on support ticket list (critical ones would still be same for every user). I assume it could be something to consider at least.

Other than that it seems nothing but bragging rights.

I personally feel faucet is one of the biggest success parts for PD. It kept the activity up, lured in players to deposit. The site wouldn't feel quite right without it.
Because lets be honest, there is a reason why many big players started trying other sites. Constant downtime for the longest time, slow betting, broken auto-bet, broken chat. It seemed faucet activity seemed to be helping it all to stick together. Faucet can drain a rather substantial amount i am sure and it seem's to have done its part and in the current market with less competition. But who knows.

In the end its is up to you.

Use the BTC saved from the faucet removal and change it to a rebate on the house edge of bets. That would be pretty awesome. No matter what perk you give to high levels unless it's entirely cosmetic people are going to farm it anyway, so...yeah, lol.

Also, maybe start showing levels next to names in chat? That'd be awesome!

(And give everyone the perk to hide their level (if you do that) and block PMs. That'd be useful too, especially for High Rollers.)

JD was very successful in terms of number of bets and amount wagered due to the easy user interface and low unexpected downtimes. If the faucet was removed, it would probably not make a difference if they use the money to improve the site and perhaps improve the server uptime and overall stability. This would attract those who truly want to gamble instead of freeloaders.

Remove levels instead and make wagered level up way more than it does in todays situation. I take much of the support is on the chat? Can't see many other reasons for needing support for faucet than spontantious newb questions on the chat. Or hier more support (I'd be up for the task) with less pay (maybe paid per 100's of mails answered), filter your support email to another email with words containing faucet and let that support department deal with questions like that - the rest of the mails which isn't forwarded by the filter simply the support forwards.. A tier 1 support if you may, ordinary support would turn into tier 2.
Pay them less than you pay ordinary support, many of the replies to those mails are ctrl+V replies anyway. If support@pd recives so many mails regarding the faucet the IQ level of many of those people mailing aren't that high (no offense intended) and people like me (10+ years exp of internet) know very easily how to deal with such.

If you remove the faucet you remove 70% of your community, people will head elsewhere - that's what I will do at least, I've "worked" hard to reach the level I am at to recive payment, and I know many of the people there doesn't play with deposit money all the time. And many people try and try and try with faucet, end up depositing after it not working out the way they hoped.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

The key issue is what are the tradeoffs of the faucet?  I'm glad the direct costs have come down.  I like the PD faucet but use it a lot less, a lot lot less, than I used to before.  However, I am also on PD a lot less.  The faucet gives the site, especially its chat, the appearance of activity.  Is this worth something?  I think yes, it's sort of like seeing cars in a parking lot, clearly something is going on at the site, however, is it worth the costs, that is something only you can answer.

Maybe a solution is to make clear that "Faucet use is at your own risk.  PD will no more tolerate complaints about us trying to give you free money or bets made with our free money than we will begging in chat."  That would allow you to delete all the support posts about faucet issues, which I agree, are ridiculous.

Just-Dice did great without a faucet but it had investment and so there was a reason for people to check in to the site to see how their investments were doing.  So I don't think the JD experience is a good analogy here.

Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure this is a textbook example of irresponsible advertising. Cheesy

Nope, we definitely had that ad made unfortunately. Obviously this is in extreme poor taste, and will be swapped out ASAP. I take full responsibility for that super unethical ad given my lack of involvement in marketing lately. I will be more involved in what limited marketing we do from now on and something like this won't happen again. Sorry guys
Why does the url redirect to a ref link? That's just weird

Why should they increase the amount of support staff they have so that people can leech faucet?
Because those leechers you are referring to consists of 70%+ of the community. Question, am I a faucet leecher when I have deposited 0.2+ BTC but uses faucet a lot? Also player X faucet faucet faucet 100 times, gets sick of it and deposits 0.01 or more (for example).

By faucet leechers I am referring to those who are only here for the faucet rather than to gamble and spam support emails when they can't cash out dust.

Or just don't allow a faucet at all, until you have wagered a certain amount. Like 10btc or something.
