I have been a customer of Virtex since the fall of 2011, and I must say that the service has been excellent. If there is one thing I would suggest in order to be a truly Canadian exchange is service in French. On another note is Virtex the oldest Bitcoin exchange worldwide that is still alive now that MTGox is dead?
this an interesting question. I will try to find the answer today.

Any luck on finding the answer to this, medicine?

VirtEx launched on on June 8, 2011.
I searched the net and I couldn't find any exchange older.  Vircurex started their bitcoin talk thread on October 22nd 2011, and BTC-e introduced there exchange here on the forum on Sept 2nd, 2011. On you FAQ page you mention "We launched the site in beta on June 8th, 2011."

There is a large but not exhaustive list here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Category:Exchanges

I didn't search through them all.  I am 100% there were no Korean exchanges at that time.  Other countries, I don't know.

Cavirtex, are you serious having staffs working at home? Do you know what security measures required for a financial service business?

wow

I feel bad for all canadian members here.

I'm willing to bet it works that way with a lot of the exchanges. As long as proper security measures are taken, I don't really have a problem with it.

you cant have a proper securities measures if you use remote session PERIOD.

How do i know? I'm major in Cryptography (altho its a program in Math faculty) and working at a major financial institution as security auditors. Good luck auditing a machine that you have no complete control of.

ugh.  When did CIBC discontinue service?  That's 3 banks I've been shut out of. Which bank would you all like to see closed to Virtex payments next? I'll get an account set up there, and they can shut it down within a few months.  What bullshit.  I hope the banksters choke on their own vomit.

Hey explorer. This is extremely frustrating for us too. We are working on some adjustments to rectify the situation. We'll make an announcement when the changes go live.

One thing I forgot to add when I did my survey is that I hope members of virtex have watched this video from Chris Odom Open Transactions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teNzIFu5L70
He claims that open transactions is going to make all trusted services "cease to exist". I would love to see virtex get ahead of the curve and consider researching and implementing some of the technology he discusses here before your competitors do. OT like technology could prove to be another disruptive force in this industry and I already know of people who are looking into building trustless exchanges. Not only would it help your customers but would also eliminate the risk Virtex has when holding people's coins.

A lot to take in, but this sounds very exciting. I will make sure this is discussed with our developers. Thanks _mr_e.

We are lowering our deposit fee on Direct Withdrawal (EFT) to $5. As a security measure, we have also implemented a bank account confirmation system: http://blog.cavirtex.com/important-fee-procedure-change

Will this still credit our account in 2-3 days or will we now have to wait 3-5 days?
For those of us that send payments from multiple bank accounts will we be able to specify which bank account to use for different withdrawals?

1. 3-5 days.

2. Not in current state, but eventually (no exact ETA).

For this to be of any use, Should I be chasing yet another bank, or is there a chance that one of my previous accounts may be of use in the (near) future?

Direct Withdrawal (EFT) is currently supported by ALL Canadian financial institutions, unlike Online Bill Payment.

I would like to express why as a Canadian I would never trust this service it's very simple this company doesn't even have a legitimate office the address is actually a UPS store.

Here is the domain lookup for cavirtex.com

http://www.checkdomain.com/cgi-bin/checkdomain.pl?domain=cavirtex.com

7620 Elbow Dr. SW

Lets see what is at that address.

https://www.google.ca/maps/@50.985593,-114.083159,3a,26.4y,72.78h,94.54t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1so0mcj-J--dt8skV_HwOJEw!2e0

Evidently the UPS store.

http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Alberta/Calgary/The-UPS-Store/1820589.html

My questions.

As a consumer could I possibly trust cavirtex.com given you have no PROOF of even an acceptable business address?
Where is the REAL business address? Your dealing with REAL money here REAL banks/exchanges don't hide behind a smoke screen.

It is certainly indicative you have some issues, perhaps if your business was not so apparently shoddy you wouldn't have these issues but it is apparent and why I would never consider doing business with your company.

I see that you are brand new to Bitcointalk. Welcome.

In case you're not aware, CaVirtex is the largest and oldest Bitcoin exchange in Canada.

We are a registered Money Service Business with FINTRAC (Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada). We encourage you to look us up in the MSB registry: http://www10.fintrac-canafe.gc.ca/msb-esm/public/msbregistry/searchByName/clf-eng.html#msbregistry/searchByName

Have a great weekend, Pottus.

EDIT: I spoke with our compliance office, and the appropriate word to use is "registered" Money Service Business, not "licensed." I have corrected the word.

Is this you guys?

http://virtex.com/

This website has absolutely nothing do with us. The domain was purchased in February by an SEO marketer in Eastern Europe.

I imagine you can draw your own conclusions as to why he picked a name that has been closely associated with CaVirtex.com, Canada's oldest and largest Bitcoin exchange.
