From perspective of a dev I can say clearly yes, the idea of an ICO is still great.

With an ICO an innovative team can take an idea, present it to the community and see if their idea is worth pursuing.
It is still an amazing way to attract crypto-enthusiasts to turn a great idea and vision that is blockchain based into reality and reward investors for their courage.

In my view it keeps the crypto development alive in times where traditional financing is not yet ready to fund these projects.
I have done it for previous startups very successfully, but even with a great track record of raising traditional bank loans and venture capital based on solid business plans and a convincing product, I doubt that traditional financing is available anytime soon for an altcoin project that uses blockchain as a key element of a business model.

Mostly because the traditional banks struggle assess the risk of such an endeavour, one of the most important inputs to their lending activities.
I bet most loan managers in traditional banks do not understand what blockchain means, so how can they assess the risk ?

The problem is that too many ICOs are on the market, making it very difficult to spot the good ones with unique ideas and a solid business model that really utilises blockchain. This is not only a problem for the potential crypto buyer and investor, it also makes it harder for the ICOs to compete and get attention.

I strongly believe the market will clear up and in the long run only good ICOs will survive. The barrier is getting higher for fake garage type ICOs already. Getting listed on the major ICO listing pages is around 1 to 5 BTC already, multiply that by the number of sites you need to be listed to get attention and the upfront investment is quite high for a scammer. Unfortunately it also impacts the small ICO team with great ideas but limited budget.

Anyways, ICOs will stay and are a great concept both for investors and developers - time will help straighten out the market.

Till then, good luck with your investments  Grin

I am back, everyone. Happy dog year. Why not? ICO is the best thing in the world. IPO is the 2nd. ICO is the way of crypto coins can live in this world and how the projects can be implemented.

The number of successful ICO's are decreasing dramatically.  Just wanna know about successful ICO's in the fourth quarter of 2017 and if anybody still believes in  ICO's.

It very much depends what you mean by "successful ICO". If you are referring at the price going 10X immediately after the ICO you are right - the party is over. But that is NOT a successful ICO, it's just a successful speculation. I think we have no idea of how a successful ICO looks like because to be really successful the project must be delivered and only after that the tokens can reach their REAL value - and then you can assess if the ICO was successful or not. But for this to happen, it takes years.

I applaude you for that comment... as devs we are hoping for such long term investors that study the idea/concept, screen the business plan and buy into an ICO because they believe in the long term strategy and sustainability of the project. Obviously we also understand those who are in it for a short term return as well, but they are "only" helping to fund the start. A long term successful ICO needs more than just the initial monetary contribution from the investor, they need feedback and critical questions during the development from the community, advertising/spreading the word and creative/innovative ideas how to improve the product.

just my 2 cents

I've never lost my hope about initial coin offering events. They're generally beneficial but you need to be picky about them. Getting and jumping into each of them doesn't make sense honestly.

You need to go for the best ones only.

Well, I think when one come across a good ICO, one will be elated to believe much in ICOs but those with the other side experience will be sceptical about it and would not even want to believe in the good ones.

Of course you are right. But the main problem is to find the best.
I haven't met ICO project here yet which represents itself like "simpe", "just another one ico", "non-prospect ico" etc. Grin

what reasons make me not trust ICO? because I feel ICO gives us bigger profit than we invest elsewhere, because from that I always invest in ICO to give me big profit and can make me become rich.

The ICO industry is way too young to discount it entirely. For that, yes I still do believe there's massive potential for the ICO scene to expand to greater heights.

Yes I believe in ICO and invest in it. Many projects have brought me an excellent profit. Sometimes even trade does not bring me such a good profit as an investing in ICO. But in order to get a good profit you must choose a reliable project very carefully. There is always a chance that you will lose all your investment.

"it's just a successful speculation" I like these words. Honestly, you can't say you have invested in a successful project if you can get huge profit within short time like few days after crowdsale or one month. That isn't investment, that's the speculation and by your luck, you have invested in that project. A real project usually take one year or few years to grow.

until now I still believe in ICO, until ICO does not give me any new profits I do not believe in ICO again  Grin

The Question is are you really Investing in A realistic Project That Can Give you A good Profit?, Well Actually its too difficult to distinguish if an ICO Project is Really trusted and can be good for profit. if you have Heard About VLB then you can consider that a Project like VLB is good for Long term investment while earning. there are also other ICO good to invest Right now but i'm suggesting you one of it. So If you are interested mind checking their website and read the Whitepaper for more clarifications. You can earn Profit if you invest for real.

True, many are taking the opportunity to rip off people and peace it with their money.

You need to do your research before investing in one. I have been looking at this Darico ICO on their website: https://darico.io/en/ . I really feel like it is an amazing project, so I asked a couple of friends and it turns out that some of them have already invested in it and it turns out to be legit. So if you are looking for an ICO currently running check them out.

Every ICO is a start-up who are trying to attract investors for their upcoming project. Previously it was done by a presentation to the Venture Capitalists. Even then the rate of success of these start-ups were not more than 2%. Why would it be any different now. The people who are investing in lot of start ups already know that only a handful of them are actually going to give out any return.

However, in case of ICOs, a lot of them are just scams, a lot of them are performing exit scams to give a eyewash to their investors and a lot of them are not regulation compliant which can seriously hurt in the way of their development. Therefore, everyone should at least verify if the people behind the ICO are genuine or not. It is safe to find out if the company behind the ICO is registered in any permissible jurisdiction or not. And of course, the real question : Is it going to solve any problem? If you are satisfied with all three of these questions then I think you should go and invest in it.

I think we cannot believe or not to believe in ICOs in general, some of them are scams, but there are a lot of promising and good projects, so it varies.
