In my opinion, there is absolutely a bright future for ALT coins.  As you know, Bitcoin has scaling issues and high transaction fees that have not been resolved.  In the meantime, ALT coins are bringing new innovations to the Crypto marketplace.  Many ALT coins will fail, but the ones that succeed will change the world.

For some altcoins 6 month of holding is not the time enough to get profit. Which alts do you hold? Some coins, especially Cardano and Qtum gained a LOT during this period. Ethereum is also a good gainer. Alts will be widely used in future in my opinion!

Although many talk of bitcoin as a bubble, some analysts believe the price could go 10 times higher over the coming year. Whether that’s a good thing is a whole other question.
While Bitcoin experienced a sudden surge in price towards the end of 2017, reaching a record high of $19,783, it ended the year down all the way to $13,889. In the early days of 2018, alternatives like Ethereum and Ripple seem to be having their own moment instead, with the latter increasing in value tenfold over the past month.
“Investors appear to be taking a breather from bitcoin for now and looking at alternative cryptocurrencies,” technology correspondent Arjun Kharpal said in a CNBC story.
Another area of concern is the futures market. The Chicago Board Options Exchange last month started allowing traders to agree on contracts based on the future predicted price. But following a much-hyped start, concerns have been raised around the low number of contracts — just 1,098 more contracts open from the end of the first week to December 29.

One of the biggest investment stories over recent months was the launch of bitcoin futures, which essentially offer exposure to the cryptocurrency, without actually having to own it.

The launch has garnered a lot of criticism, with concerns revolving around the instability (or lack of regulation) of bitcoin exchanges, and the fear that encouraging more people to enter the market at this point of time could exacerbate an already volatile asset class.

There’s also the risk that the bitcoin market could collapse if a stampede of futures traders all sell their contracts at once.

Bitcoin futures got off to a good start immediately after their debut last month. But they’ve been on a downward spiral since the beginning of 2018, and now sit at the $14,000 mark, down from an opening price of $15,000 at launch, meaning many futures investors are set to face large losses when the monthly contracts expire tomorrow.

If anything, this episode just draws attention to the volatile nature of the cryptocurrency.

As Bitcoin peaked to $20,000 just before Christmas last year, it was unstoppable in both its growth and dominance, but since then it has dropped away in both respects as altcoin seasoned opened up the new year.

The original cryptocurrency saw its dominance fall to below 33 percent as others such as Ripple, Stellar and Tron have snatched some of the overall market cap.

However, already on the comeback trail, the belief is that Bitcoin will still be the market leader through 2018.

Erik Voorhees, CEO of digital asset exchange ShapeShift, has said that there has been a decline in Bitcoin’s dominance in transactions since a year ago on their platform, but that Bitcoin is actually benefiting from growth in Altcoins.

"Bitcoin has such magnificent network effects that I don't see another altcoin that's a little better at payments" or some other function right now, Autonomous' Global Director of fintech strategy, Lex Sokolin said

Choose altcoins within the atleast the top 20 in the market and try to increase your altcoin holdings to be more profitable whenever its value increase. Altcoins future is very positive and a lot of people now are more focused on investing to altcoins compared to bitcoins even mining altcoins are much more profitable now compared to bitcoins.
I slightly disagree. top 20 is more an investment for a long time, is the fundamental coins! to get rich quickly and to increase your capital, it will not work! You need to look for coins on the pre-ico or on the exchange of promising new coins and not buy them at the peak! sorry for my English)

According to my experience some altcoins have an excellent potential and slowly they will get very bright future if they continue to improve their performance. As they improve their performance then their customers will be increased in market with time then as their demand is increasing then their pricing will be increased. And in last they will become more popular coin in market. While some altcoin have no bright future they are nearly going to dead because of their poor performance.

the future of altcoin will likely continue to improve as new coins continue to emerge. if discussing the issue of price, it must be patient because the price of alternative coin is very far compared to bitcoin, so you must to invest for long-therm. now the best altcoin is etherum, you just try to invest etherum.

Maybe you should choose some altcoins which you understand. Investing your money in altcoins who just want to be the new bitcoin will equal in this. There are many altcoin who has some really good and thoughtful projects behind. But you have to do some researches to find those projects. But this is not a guarantee for success. There are even some coins with good project and good dev team behind, who are still worthless. So even than you need to have some luck.

Yes they have a very bright future if you select a right coin. You need to search about the market value of the coin before investing in any coin. As you can see the growth and for the company in which you are investing matters a lot. So do remember these things before investing in any Altcoin.

Altcoins are very profitable, you just need to pick the right one. You have to buy it at the right time and sell it at the right time. If you keep picking shitcoins then expect that there will be no future from it.

and to be successful in trading altcoin also takes patience, take advantage of the right moment where to buy or sell assets we have, the value or price altcoin up or down in my opinion is a reasonable thing, and the management system of the company owner altcoin can also determine the value of the coin

When people are increasingly willing to take risk and fear of missing out is prevailing over any sense of security and analytical discipline, that's the time to be worried. When the fundamentally weakest assets are rallying the most and people are proclaiming BTC is dead, we're starting to near the end of a short-term, altcoin-dominated cycle.

The problem is that investors tend to think of themselves as analytical, disciplined and contrarian, but the fact of the matter is that most tend to magnify cyclical moves. They cannot stomach the possibility they may miss out on gains.

I think the causes of this situation may be bad luck and bad timing. If this two come together, you can never make profit. By improving your knowledge and trading skills, you can increase your chance to make good profit. Good luck!

The fate of altcoins depends entirely on bitcoin. As soon as bitcoin begins to recover altcoins will show a good growth. If the whales cease to hold the price of bitcoin at the bottom the crypto market will go up.
