Unfortunately, DDoS protection just the cost of doing business.  On the bright side, it will cost less than 100BTC per year, certainly less than that per month!  Check out blacklotus.net, they actually accept BTC payments and cost about 8.5BTC/month.

Someone just opened a support ticket offering DDoS protection, but 100 BTC seems a little expensive.

Are there any other service providers out there who can do the job for less?

Sure.  Send 50 Bitcoins to 14o7zMMUJkG6De24r3JkJ6USgChq7iWF86 and I guarantee that you won't experience any problems.  A ton of my bitcoins are there and I never get DDoSed.

You are right, I guess it was a fair offer then.  Will the extortionists accept monthly installments?

I wonder of Nakowa responsible for the DDoS atta is in Just-Dice just as his lets dice site comes out.  Seems like the type of thing that asshole would do.

I looked at the grammar, style and text structure and it matches Nakowa's, so it's quite probable it's him.

I thought quite the opposite.  Nakowa's English isn't great, but the IT professional who kindly offered his assistance wrote with perfect English.

Regardless, whether Nakowa involved or not (I think so but I am biased since I dislike him), DDoSing going to become the norm in the bitcoin gambling wild west whether for extortion or to handicap the competition.  Any successful bitcoin gambling venture will need a robust DDoS protection strategy which is also cost-effective.  The one advantage of blockchain polluters like Satoshi Dice is they are impervious to DDoSing (can DDoS the website, but once you know the addresses to send coins to for betting, it is a non-issue).

This game is great!

Why bother with mining if you can invest into gambling and make profit instantly?

here comes the day when people can use a computer without knowing that 4096=2^12

This is a sad day.

so 0.00004096 is likely coming from a 12-loss-long streak on a  martingale with 1 sat starting bet, made by a bot.

If you look at the 'bet id' column, you will see that the numbers go up by more than one each second.  There are lots of bets per second, but the site only shows one per second unless there are 'interesting' bets happening.  There's a threshold over which all bets are sent - so if someone bets 1 BTC ten times in a second, you'll see all ten of them.  Otherwise it's just too bandwidth-heavy to stream all bets to all viewers.

Lots of the bets are probably the work of bots, too.

And 4096 is what you get if you double 1 twelve times.

I mean, in contrast to mining, you start to make profit immediately. You do not need to return equipment and electricity costs.

Sure you do - it's just that the costs are hidden from you in the form of commissions on profit taken by doog. Don't kid yourself - you are paying for upkeep in that you do not get a cut of gross profits, but instead you get a percentage of net.

Commission is applied to profit, not to investment. Investment does not cost me anything except microbitcoin transaction fee. Nothing compared to multi-thousand $ mining rigs.

Commission is applied to profit, not to investment.
One universal truth exists in commerce: All costs are passed along.

This is true either in prepaid costs from a subscription, or a set fee per transaction, or from a percentage deducted on the back end, or from the fact that you're getting a smaller percentage than you would be getting if costs were not a factor in the calculation of the owner's take. It doesn't matter how you think you're getting paid, you are not receiving as much as you would if costs were not factored in. Just because you can't see the costs deducted doesn't mean they aren't a factor.

The cost of running a website is not comparable to the cost of running an ASIC manufacturing and farming system. Then again, the profits are not comparable, either.
