Let's get something straight; today there are 1333 altcoins listed in coinmarketcap.com. 80~90% of those are pure trash!

That's the point, isn't it? Not all altcoins are born equal. Some have real projects, serious plans, long term goals and commited devs.

BTC will rule for a long time, but there are many altcoins with a bright future ahead.

Yes, especially today, all unnecessary and unfounded coins have made their mark, just a good day for Bitcoin. I was very surprised that some big altcoins fell. Bitcoin does not have to make too much effort to win this competion.

I don't see it as a competition, BTC will always have an important place but the future will have room for many other crypto/blockchain projects that will answer the demand for inovation that BTC is unable to provide.

This thread is the perfect description of the amazing chaotic changing world of crypto. All the advice did a 180 in a week.

That's the fun of it, right?  Grin

But I haven't changed my mind; I still think altcoins are a very good investment, even if BTC predominance is now smashing almost all of them.

Altcoin is the good option to earn good profit no doubt but if you want to be a good trader then work with according to good understanding of the market condition so the best option for this time is to invest bitcoin because bitcoin hardfork makes you able to get extra profit in term of new altcoin mean bitcoin silver.
I don’t know why some people usually go for Altcoins, does that mean that they earn more profit from altcoins than they do on Bitcoin? If I’m to make a choice, I will definitely be going for Bitcoin without thinking twice. But I should try out these Altcoins sometimes.

Now a days every person knows much about bitcoin because they are know n to this in colleges and universities even they are discussing this currency for this reason bitcoin and altcoin both are good to start with it. i like to buy some of altcoin now because the price rise i want to buy altcoins which are easy and convenient for me to make some investment with this.
Hmmm…Altcoins seems to be pretty much the best option. But as of now, don’t you think that Bitcoin would be the best option to go for. I wouldn’t advise a newbie to go straight into Altcoins without first trying out Bitcoin. There is always a reason why Bitcoin is called the number one coin in the market.

bitcoin is very much worthy to invest than altcoins, however it is very unsual and unpredictable, so it is very risky to invest in bitcoin without any knowledge, in contrast investing altcoins are much safer and they may have potential to rise higher and faster than bitcoin in the future.
All coins are unusual and unpredictable. The crypto world itself is an unpredictable world and you can only try to manage to understand every moment it brings, otherwise you will be as stunned as you can ever imagine.  I would not consider investing altcoins to be safer. In fact, when it comes to safe, I would rather call the coin that is in the eye of the world, safer to invest in than any Altcoin. Some altcoins are dead and some may still not survive in the long run. So, it is a world that requires a lot of carefulness as it poses more risk.

I am sure everyone is aware about the rise of altcoins like ETH and Litecoin so I just want to know expert's opinion whether to invest in bitcoin or altcoins as the price of bitcoin is too high now for an individual to invest into it ? Do you think these altcoins will survive and pump just like bitcoin or its better to stick to bitcoin ?

For me they are both good especially bitcoins because their value are too much expensive rather than altcoins which are way more cheaper but not all altcoins are successful. But for me I do not need to trade bitcoins because I can easily turn it into a cash because bitcoins are accepted into a banl here in.our country that makes it easily to cash out a bitcoins. So I only traded altcoins and that is not always good but there are times that the value of the coins that I trade are way too profitable and too much money that it made.
I know quantity have some way of dealing with the mind than quality. Most of us today feel that the fact that we do not have like 10 BTC and above sucks but the truth is a time will come when people would really want to hold as much as 0.000001 BTC but it won't be a small amount in value to easily get.

BTC will keep growing and the little one has now will grow hugely and steadily in value. It does not mean one cannot invest in other cryptos but at least more should go into bitcoin to reduce the risk.

I will invest in Bitcoin and altcoin at the same time but the money earnmark for bitcoin will be higher! Crypto currency is unlike firex that you can predict certain pair against other! Crypto is more dynamic and you may not understand what is driving a price of a coin!
Honestly, that is just more like a sane thing to do. The crypto atmosphere is huge and for anyone who really wants to be a part of it, they must understand everything it entails.

Investing in Alt is not an easy task and it is necessary to find out which is going to do well in the long run and that is not an easy job considering the number of fishes in the ocean. Bitcoin however, is guaranteed at least for now, and anything that would affect it, will definitely end up affecting each alt.

Altcoins will take time but 100% profit. you want to earn money fast then invest in bitcoins but you have to put high amount here.
Some may even give you more than 100% in the long run. I have seen some Alts that have done pretty well in a short while and even ETH had a huge increase more than Bitcoin this year. The only thing like you said is that they take time.

Since ETH increase, it has been finding it hard to break past until recently and it is still back to the previous position it was before now. For trading though, I have been having some good time with it.

if you are a risktaker like me. i choose to altcoins where the lot of coins is there unlike to bitcoin you monitor one coin only. its easy to monitor a one coin than too many. but its easy to earn to a lot of coins than to one only. thats why i choose altcoins than bitcoins.

If you asked me this question in the summer of 2017, I would have said definitely altcoins.  But as you can see the tables have turned now.  Even though I think the current price is the result of media hype, the lesson learned here is that no one can tell you with confidence anything about the direction of the crypto market (other than it's going to continue to grow overall).
The tables will always turn and there is no way we won't keep seeing things like this most especially when bitcoin is about to hit the main stream. We do not know the effect it would have on bitcoin, but whatever it is, it is sure going to affect altcoins as well, whether positively or negatively.

Aside these, it is going to be a very long and sweet ride with just some little potholes at the end of it all, so I will advise to go more into bitcoin and maybe some little diversification into some alts.

I think you will do fine if you buy Bitcoins for a long term investment. However, they are so expensive right now that there may be altcoins that can give you a better rate of return. I choose to diversify by holding Bitcoins and a few of the more well known altcoins.

"the price of bitcoin is too high now for an individual to invest into it". What's funny is that, that's what people have always been saying since the start!

First people thought that $1000 was too high.. then $3000.. then $5000.. and now $10,000.. Do you want to make the same regrets after the next price milestone? I'm not saying that you should definitely buy at this pricepoint, but think about it.

yup i have been hearing this all year, should I buy Bitcoin now that the
price is $1500, is it too late to buy at $2500 etc. etc.

now if you only have $100 to spend, you wont get much bitcoin for that!
so I get the point the OP is making.

Personally the likes of Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum, Monero, Zcash are
pretty good to get into, the best would be Litecoin as its "affordable"
and its only going one way [like bitcoin] !!

Nice quote dude, litecoin is still going one way  Cheesy

Investing in altcoin for short term maybe a great way to increase value of our investments. Because, some altcoin began to stretch again after some time ago had slumped. Bitcoin very appropriate as a longterm investment option, eg for 3 years.

For me both, I prefer investing bigger amount in bitcoin and some extra amount to some altcoins, as we know when bitcoins are going down, some altcoins tends to go high, but there are few also who followed the chart movement of the bitcoin, that is why for me i am choosing to invest both bitcoin and altcoin as long sa you analize also which altcoins have potential of rising in the future. But of course for now i decided to invest more in bitcoins because i see the money in there

Definitely it is a choice of matter for the one who is thinking go what to do. Either to go in bitcoin world or just deal with altcoins now. This is crucial decision and some extensive care should be given here while taking decisions. Altcoins are better but bitcoins are best. There is a huge difference in both and you don’t need to worry, go for bitcoin and make your life amazing.

One thing is certain; cryptocurrencies are here to stay! They are now a mainstream subject appearing in major headlines all over the news.

However, not all cryptocurrencies are viable and most of them are nothing but scams.

BTC is the dominant one, not only for historical reason but also because is still the reference for all the others.

But there are many altcoins with a bright future ahead, and the widespread adoption of blockchain technologies will pave the way for the solid altcoins to thrive.

BTC is attracting too much undesired attentions and is prone to political maneuvers.

Therefore, the best bet is to spread your investments  researching about the best altcoin projects, the ones with a lot of potential.

I don't think it is necessary to compare these two investment types. Both are very profitable if you now when to invest. Generally bitcoin will keep on gaining value so it is a safe long term investment if you are interested in that kind of investmen. Or if you want to make money faster with taking risk you can try to invest in an altcoin. So instead of comparing or discussing which one is better , it is smarter to know when to invest which one.

That is the million dollar question; when to invest? When to buy? When to sell?

Crypto will always be a game of chance, with a significant risk.

The only way to be successful is to read, study, devote a daily time slot to follow the trends. Unless you are very lucky, there is no other way.

Bitcoin is still number one in my list but we need to considers the facts that we should invest our money wisely.
I will give some advice make your investment in percentage 30% in altcoin and 70% in bitcoin.
Bitcoin starts also at low price but now it has a high value in crpto world now you must consider the "what if"
Altcoin also increase price and boom in the crypto world?
We dont know what will happen in the future of cryptocurrency so we better invest wisely
We need so search, read spend some times and lastly take the risk because we choose this kind of life. You must deal with the consequences/failure or success. Investing is risky but then again if you dont do big risk you will not have a big future.
