what is better for low end hardware ~3k pps, solo or pool?

Its generally better to use the chainsperday value for comparison/performance assessment. However, 3k PPS is similar to what you'd expect from a top of the line intel i5 CPU and some of the higher end i7's. So I wouldn't really call that 'low end'.

Using poor or solo mining depends only on how long you can wait between getting payouts. Its possible at around 3k PPS that you may now only find a block once per fortnight or less. However keep in mind that a block is currently worth a lot more thanks to recent interest: Right now a block of 10.10 XPM is just under $60 as I write this.

Although a lot of people struggle to understand/accept the variance inherent in solo mining blocks, my anecdote from my ~3k PPS CPU is that I have found about 1 block per week over the last month. However you need to keep in mind that difficulty has recently risen another few %. I have some slower machines that can go months without finding a block.

If you look through my comment history, or mikaelh's comment history, you will see discussion regarding the calculations you can use to estimate your mining capability.

gotta dump  primnecoin... the pools got insane min payout so not worth wasting tiem unless you have some high end cpu array.

peeeer.org has liek 3.01 ( which is roughly, it seems like, over a month to mine) and ypool has 1 for minimum ( and WHOLE day has resulted in 0.05 unconfirmed.. runnign on a athlon II x4).

Looks like it has equivalent problem of asics - just that people now use botnets and  hughe VPN  networks.

Bitcoin GHAS renting and 0% fee stratum mining.

Anyone know what the primecoin development or donation address is? I am having difficulty finding it, or one directly to Sunny King.

If you do find it, make sure to link where you got the address from as well obviously!

I'm not sure what benifit Primecoin has now for mining other than botnet use. Protoshares is much, MUCH more profitable.

Anyone knows why my Primecoins don't reach Cryptsy anymore?!
I think I just lost 3-4 XPM... Anyone else having the same issues?

How long did you wait? I mine directly to their auto-sell with beeeeer.org, it works, but it takes them a lot of time to process the deposit.

The problem arises from Cryptsy. The same thing happened with my FTC, there was a bug when I posted the trade and the coins just vanished.
I think I got the XPM back though, I'll see if the same happens for my FTC.

Thanks for your input!

I too have had problems with cryptsy deposit / withdrawals. Their support is slow and sometimes does not reply, however the problems I've had were always fixed in the end. That being said, they need to lift their game if they want to compete with other exchanges.

Wait 3 more days and see what's more profitable when PTS diff increases near 70% ...

"Protoshares Difficulty: current 0.00647256, next diff 0.01091592 (+68.65%) in 1835 blocks (3.12 days). Current blocktime: 2.45 minutes, Network hashrate: 11367483 hashs/min."

Thanks to ReCat for the suggestion re PTS. However my experience with it did no go so great. I think I will stick to what I know (XPM).

I've mined PTS early and its profitability was ungodly due to the broken diff adjustment and many people not understanding how to mine it. Now, I'm not so sure it's worth it. I've gone back to XPM because I don't have to keep up with the latest dumb stuff happening over there, it just works.

+1

I used to split resources but not anymore.

Yeah I have a few decent CPUs pointed at this thing, around 30 cores total, and Im going to find around one block a month if all goes according to plan... I dont see how this is going to work.

Maybe the calculator is off, I dont know but it seems like very tough difficulty especially for a "CPU-only" coin which is only 6 months old.

With the increasing difficulty, Im probably looking at mining 100 coins or less over the life of these CPUs. The CPUs+electricity cost a lot more than 100XPM (currently less than $5/XPM).

Seems like Primecoin difficulty is now at 10 Smiley
http://xpm.muuttuja.org/charts/

Are we expecting to see any significant growth in Primecoin's price?

I'd buy that for a dollar bitcoin!

Yup, current difficulty is 10.04099065.  I'm surprised there hasn't been more fanfare around this, I only found out when my brother complained that his chains per day estimate decreased 25x overnight.

I'd reccomend adding mikaelh's seednode to the conf, google primecoin seednode and you'll find it.

Any Ideas where we, as a pool owner, get a server software source for running a XPM pool ?

Thank you
