I agree with one of their main points in that social media is extremely important to build awareness and increase the visibility of your ICO, twitter, telegram etc, The arena is so crowded now with ICOs everywhere and to try to bring yourself to the forefront will take more than just a great social media presence, you will need to have an actual solid project, I think people are wising up to the fact now that chances are the latest ICO is a scam, but if you have some solid tech / tangible product ready to go this will greatly improve your chances of not only having a successful ICO but you will gain loyal investors that will not just dump their tokens/coins when they hit an exchange, instead because they believe in the project they will stick with it and ultimately these are the people that will make the project successful after an ICO, the ones that stick with it and spread the word not because they are paid to but because they genuinely see worth in their investment. so what in these social media channels make them not scammy? everyone can buy followers - ? doesn't mean a thing -- what investor has time to monitor social media channels? I don't think social media has any TRUE reflection of the success of an ICO

I think it’s just only for unsuccessful and scam projects. Because people get more and more experience about ICOs and whey could choose a really good projects

ICO toptal funding is dropping everyday. We are getting less participants as too many people already in ICO tokens and still waiting for ROI So 2018 will be really good for ICOs cause we will only fund the quality ones.

I think the ICO market is not so popular as before since more and more governments began to regulate this market at local level. But I think it will not ended since it is a good way to raise money for development.

ICOs have received more funding this year than the previous years but the market is saturated with ICOs and the amount of funds from investors can't keep up. Nowadays, multiple ICOs pop up every day and it is a matter of time when this ICO bubble will burst. I don't advise investing in ICO when you can get them much cheaper when they reach the market.

ICOs will likely thrive as an alternative model alongside VC next year. The article doesn't say that ICOs as a funding model will fail, only that ICO projects that fail to take certain precautions are likely to fail.

ICO will be still popular, because a lot of new money will appear in cryptocurrency system. There is also many new hedge funds. ICO become more legal and transparent and gives opportunity to make money.

I am more convinced that the ICO fashion may start to decrease in 2019, as people may have realised they don't get so easily rich with the projects of 2017...

I Would like to see more and more metods to adopted to prevent ICO scams including KYC or whitelist sale. That is a good news for a clear and healthy ICO market.

Its like those days when ponzi schemes that uses Bitcoin is all over this forum and then members here finally learned how to spot the ponzis and the non-ponzis, there will also come a time the people will get tired of ICOs promising the moon and the stars but fails eventually. Even Vitalik is not in favor of those ICO and he believes most of them are scam.

I never heard about some rumours that ICO's will fail in 2018 but that might be possible since may ICO's are often turn to scam leaving many investors. There sure a lot of ICO' s that have come onto this year alone, 2018 might be filtering some good and potential ICO that would run in the crypto market. Failing might happen for some ICO but it doesn't mean some might stop totally, ICO's will keep coming, I guess.

The writer of the article was right base on what I have seen concerning an ICO which was launch on this forum but lately end up to a failure due to ICO team being too complicated, lack of good market strategy and communication.

This is better for the investors and for the ICOs, those that aren't up to much won't get funding and then in time we should only get better quality ICOs. It's a good point that many are still waiting for returns, I never really thought of that before, it would explain the cyclical nature of such things.

You can't say it for sure for every ICO in 2018. Look at the current situation. Less then 5% of ICO reach their hardcap. But we still have those 5% which are sold our in minutes. ICO is still one on the best way to make an easy money, so I don't think the situation will change much in 2018.

While these reasons are vital in conventional fundraising, they do not really matter in ICO. ICO with no PR strategy, no social media activity, just some idea and backed by popular people have raised hundreds of million dollars. Those are not the thing needed to run a successful ICO. But I do agree that ICO might fail in 2018. The reason? Governments start taking them down.

Does anybody know or remember the reasons for the dot com bubble bursting? What can ICOs learn from them, if anything?

Also note that there are ICO angencies such as ICOBOX, KickICO and more who support only legitimate project's ICO's, so I think there will be less scam in ICOs

Regulators are getting more involved in cryptocurrencies and they are starting to prosecute scammers. However, tighter regulations may render most if not all benefits of ICOs moot. And that could kill off ICOs.

hopefully this will never happen because too many people are disappointed because of it and how the fate of those who have followed the ICO from 2017 to 2018, whether their work will be in vain. ??
