There was a startup boom a few years ago before ICOs became the new startup -- and there is STILL a huge demand for startups --

As Blockchain progresses and advances and new chains are created -- you don't think ICOs will be hot?

I personally think that this is just the beginning - that we have SOOOO much more opportunity and growth and ICOs to experience that will be better than what has already been released as people get more and more complex and address problems that blockchain can be the solution for.

Successful ico is not defined from an article forecast, because the article is not entirely grounded in the available tidiness

I think not all ICO will fall but most of them. IMO it's reasonable since ICO usually copy-cat the previous coin that attract new investor for quick so it's difficult for new investor to decide the right ICO. That's also become the reason why China decide ban ICO ! ( ICO = gambling )

I agree with one of their main points in that social media is extremely important to build awareness and increase the visibility of your ICO, twitter, telegram etc,

The arena is so crowded now with ICOs everywhere and to try to bring yourself to the forefront will take more than just a great social media presence, you will need to have an actual solid project,

I think people are wising up to the fact now that chances are the latest ICO is a scam, but if you have some solid tech / tangible product ready to go this will greatly improve your chances of not only having a successful ICO but you will gain loyal investors that will not just dump their tokens/coins when they hit an exchange, instead because they believe in the project they will stick with it and ultimately these are the people that will make the project successful after an ICO, the ones that stick with it and spread the word not because they are paid to but because they genuinely see worth in their investment.

According to the roadmaps of the existing ICOs they will have to show the result of their work in the next year. Most of the ICOs won't be able to do it for several reasons (it doesn;t need to be a 100% scam ico to make a mistake and fail). So the tokens will rush down. Every month you get 20 new ICOs, and most of them are scams. These are the ones that will fail.

This is better for the investors and for the ICOs, those that aren't up to much won't get funding and then in time we should only get better quality ICOs. It's a good point that many are still waiting for returns, I never really thought of that before, it would explain the cyclical nature of such things.

You can't say it for sure for every ICO in 2018. Look at the current situation. Less then 5% of ICO reach their hardcap. But we still have those 5% which are sold our in minutes.  ICO is still one on the best way to make an easy money, so I don't think the situation will change much in 2018.

While these reasons are vital in conventional fundraising, they do not really matter in ICO. ICO with no PR strategy, no social media activity, just some idea and backed by popular people have raised hundreds of million dollars. Those are not the thing needed to run a successful ICO.

But I do agree that ICO might fail in 2018. The reason? Governments start taking them down.

Regulators are getting more involved in cryptocurrencies and they are starting to prosecute scammers. However, tighter regulations may render most if not all benefits of ICOs moot. And that could kill off ICOs.

I think a lot of projects are still preparing their tokensales looking back at 2017 projects' success. But least of them will get any reasonable funding cause all the traders will be busy with checking delivering the results by first projects they invested.

I believe the next big thing will be trade.io, its already doing so well. Raised $12mil in Pre-ICO and ICO will start tomorrow 7th Dec. They have joined HiTBTC exchange and other goals have been reached also.

If you read the article you will see that the author doesnt says that all ICO`s will fail in 2018. It simply wants to underline some mistakes that current ICO are making esspecialy on the awarness part.
I partiall agree with the author but lets take them step by step.
The most common mistakes that the author consider ICO`s make:
       - Over complicatin of a project or platform. I`ve read my share of whitepapers and i`m not a tech person but i understood most of the information. I dont agree here with the author. The whitepaper must adress to the simple user and to the most advanced one. Till now i saw whitepapers  that adress tp both of them. For sure i am talking about serious projects, not small one made by kids who hope they can scam the community.
       - Lack of funds dedicated to marketing and media. All the projects that i saw had funds allocated for these two sector.
       - No effective PR stratedy to drive angagemend. Here i agree with the author. Many projects dont give a lot of attention to the image and spreading it into the market. Here is the part were i see mostly non-proffesionals. I cant undestand why in a market where pojects gain millions there isn`t more investment in PR.
       - Inssuficient social media activity. Mostly they are relying on bounty programs but once the ICO ends most social media acivity stops. So yeah, the author makes a good point here. There should be bounties even after the ICO`s.

I'm not sure I understand why so many believe ICOs will be less popular in 2018. Yes, 2017 saw a lot of ICOs, but many have been successful and many have failed - that is the nature of start-ups (which is essentially what ICOs are). I think what people here are forgetting is that ICOs are still businesses - they have founders, employees, a product or service (either real or conceptual), income, expenses etc. The only difference between an ICO-funded start-up and a venture capital-backed startup is the source of the funding. I don't shocked if the ICOs will fail in 2018 because basically the ICOs are new projects of the businesses and we know that almost 90% of businesses always fail, my strategy be taken by me when investing in the ICOs is always use the amount of money can be ready for losing them, i always use analysis fundamental of the ICOs projects before making desicions to investment into them and i don't care about the news, so always use your personal opinions, research about the the ICOs.

I do not think the ICO will fail in 2018. Although the ICO has been around for a long time and we are newcomers, but I think the ICO is still working very well and without any bad feedback.
There may be some fraudulent projects that are approved through the ICO but that will not affect the ICO's reputation much. Simply put, those who invest or work on a project must test the project before deciding to invest or work for them.

Partly agreed. As you can see thw pioneer projects before ICO blooms, made a significant impact in terms of technological advancememt.
