There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Hmm, btct.co server time is Wed, 31 Jul 2013 21:04 BST and it looks like bids are still coming in - up to 18.51 mil.
Wild guess: internal server timestamps and snapshot of orderbook at that time count. As said in the announcement: "All bids posted after the cutoff will be thrown out."

I am of course (if that is indeed the case) very sorry that there are people that feel unfairly treated. I still however feel that this was a better solution the auction format or just "wild west" for the vast majority of people interested in shares.
Lets hope for a positive outcome and resolution to the IPO and that at least most people feel we have done what we could to ensure an "as fair as possible" sale of shares.

And NOW my money shows up!! Minutes after it closes.
Looks like a scam to me. Maybe I should be happy I wasn't able to get involved!

I'm not clear on if this thing is apparently over or not - if it is, I got my coins in on time with screenshots... and I will feel quite miffed if I miss out on the IPO because of a BTCT.co glitch. It's very disconcerting to see 100BTC disappear. Bitfunder so far has been a better experience.

At least yours has showed up. I deposited well within time and confirmed within time. However, my coins have not shown up. Although there is a record and i am certain i will get them given to me eventually.

This must be some new kind of scam. The kind where they do NOT take your money. Pure Genius!

Although there is a record and i am certain i will get them given to me eventually. Try what I did: Go to WITHDRAW the BTC, and put in some amount of BTC even if it says 0 max available. After that is done your BTC might magically show up like mine did.
