Hey All.

It is with great pleasure that i am now announcing the Avalon 16 chip boards being available!  Smiley

I got the first couple back from the factory and they look and work great. The quality on these is excellent, much better than the previous boards. They come with big beautiful professional heatsinks and solid brass standoffs. I am really proud of these boards.  Cheesy Cheesy

They chain together reliably. The two i have running here are sitting very comfortably at 22GH/s each at recommended safe settings. They can be overclocked to higher hash speeds by unlocking the higher speeds option. Details of how to do this can be found here: http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/index.php?topic=309.0

These boards are going through their final quality control at the factory and will be ready to ship tomorrow. I am confident that they work and will continue to work reliably. I am opening orders for these now. Please go here to place your orders: http://drillbitsystem.com/shop/bitcoin-miners/avalon-16-by-drillbit-systems/.

The current retail price on these boards is $239 each but for all members of our previous group buy, i am offering a 20% discount which will bring the price to about $190 each. If you pay by BTC a further 5% discount will be added at checkout. Paypal is available but BTC payment is much preferred. To claim this discount, enter the coupon code: drillbitgb

*** Please note that there is currently a bug with the bitcoin checkout that we are working on. After you place your order it will return you to an empty cart and not show you payment details, but don't worry, the order is still being placed and all the details are sent to me. No need to redo the order. Your payment amount, including the 5% discount is being calculated based on current BTC exchange rate and forwarded to me. Until we sort out this bug, i will manually send you confirmation emails with all the payment details as soon as i receive your order. ***

Happy ordering everyone. Can't wait to get these boards out to you.  Cool

Cheers

First impressions Drillbit Avalon 16 boards:
Got my 2 boards today.  First tried one, then both.  They are powered by a spare ATX PS using a Molex-6 pin PCI-E adapter from a video card to power the second board (the PS had a single 6 pin PCI-E output).
Cooled by a single Cooler Master 12cm fan.
They are 'daisy chained' via SATA cables to act as a single miner (connected the 'Down port' of the 'master' board to the 'Up port' of the second board).

Ran them initially on windows and then on Minepeon (thanks TK for the V8 image and update instructions) with CGminer 4.2.

(The image caption say 4.0.2 while it is cgminer 4.2.0)

Need to learn how to modify settings to get a bit more hash rate out of these.

Cheers

Hey Kapobar

Try --drillbit-options Av16:int:825:1:1000. Should get you an easy 22 GH/s. They can definitely be pushed higher too but you will need to make sure you have good cooling.  Smiley

Thanks Barn,  I'm running it now on Minepeon, which is a bit more fiddly than on windows (at least for me).  For some reason this minepeon build does not accept the oc settings from the web gui, so managed to SSH, get into cgminer, saved the cgminer.conf, then edited it to include
"drillbit-options" : "AV16:int:750:1:950"

(a bit less ambitious than your suggestion, but my cooling is a bit modest now).  This works ok and gets about 21 GH/s per board (about 42 GH/s avg for both).  So there is room for more performance.

is there power consumption figures for the 8boards vs the new 16boards?

Can only quote the values for the Avalon16 "Avalon Sixteeens draw around 4A@12V on default (conservative settings), up to 6.5A at maximum safe settings."
The drillbit forum says "Eight boards uses 1.5-2A each (budget 2.5-3A if you want to be very safe)" in the discussion on 12V or 5V.
I did not measure either board myself (and it would depend heavily on over-clocking).

cause 12 usb eruptors and 5 8boards on the on 12V rail pulling 17A ,can max at 25A  plus have 4rails plenty of power then. i am planning on buying a standalone power supply for the 5 8boards and put them into their own little box.

Am I nuts here or would these units need to be in the USD ~$50 range to get the $/GH that you can get with an any ant s1? I want to say my last s1 was ~ $3/GH @ BTC .98/200GH... I would happily purchase a 10 pack @ $50/unit though... Smiley BTW my drillbit USB's are still running strong, Thanks Barn!

With slightly better cooling (2 12cm fans in push+pull arrangement) and some overclocking, this pair of Avalon 16 boards gets a steady 44 GH/s. The best setting found so far is
Av16:int:750:1:1000
I like the SATA daisy-chaining.  It's been working reliably here since I got them.

these 16boards sounds promising, also doing the push and pull fan combo with stack 8board.

Just picked up 2 16's. I am hoping I can add these to one of my ant rigs and use the same 750W PS (500-550w for the ant and the remaining ~200W to the 2 16's, **crossing fingers**) . If this works the way I plan, I can add these to my existing power supplies with little issue. Bring on the heat!!! As always, thanks Barn.

If heat was an issue don't you think there'd be proper fan mounts for these devices? I sadly don't have the fans or the power supply to play with this.

At least for someone experimenting into bitcoins just these being officially supported in cgminer makes this a good buy for them.

Like the info address for potential tips Wink

I just got 2 additional 16's, in addition to my previous 2.  I'm feeding 3 of them spare capacity from a 750W PS used for an Antminer S1, and 1 from a separate PS (ran out of PCI-e outputs/adapters to use a single PS). Just be aware that for the board group to be recognized as a single device (if you also daisy-chain them with SATA cables), the suggestion is to power them all up together.  This worked fine for my original pair, but now it became quite fiddly to get them all running as a single device.  After many attempts I managed to achieve this.  The alternative if you have difficulty is to use a separate USB cable for each (I did not try that). Once your PC recognizes the 'group' as a single device, you can restart the miner, change config settings etc.  I'm getting about 88 GH/s for the 4 boards with settings of int:750:1000.  Cooling these is a challenge, especially if all 4 are stacked in a single stack.  Probably need to stack a pair of box fans on both sides in push-pull fashion.  It's easier with a 2 board stack, as it fits the height of a single 12 cm fan.
You are probably aware that there are specific instructions on the Drillbit forum at http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/index.php?topic=309.0,
