I mean they should 'work out of the box' plus the 'omg wait everyone, the scrolls don't work at all' thing is just great.

Wondering if my batch 1 board will be shipped with everyone elses (and arrive after the US ones - buy local LOL)

in fact didn't you say you were tired of waiting and sold at least one board?  Smiley

Barntech blocked that deal.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I fell asleep and when I woke up I had a second board go dead on me.  It doesn't power up anymore.  Not sure what to do.

Chad
I guess the only thing that you can do now is to completely disconnect that board, let it cool down (edit: letting the polyswitches reset themselves, if they exist, sounds like a good idea), then try it again (ideally in an isolated environment with its own supply, pc etc.).  Do you have reasonable cooling?

Good luck

Right now the ambient temp is close to 0C.  The board is ice cold, but doesn't power up anymore.  It was sharing a 120mm fan with a second board.

Chad

Bugger.
i'd give it at least a few hours before declaring it totally dead.

I just tried putting power to the board that wasn't working anymore and something went up in smoke.  It's dead for sure.  : (

Yikes.

I have 1 board that went ZOMBIE as well, and now no green light. I've tried a completely different PC, PSU, USB cable, in/out of the miniplane..no dice..no green light

I am waiting until we get an official answer from the appropriate parties to continue my troubleshooting.

4 boards:  1 went south, no LED, in about 4 minutes.  Another went south, no LED, in about 3 hours.  Two more went south (one with LED lit) after running overnight.  In that case, I changed some unrelated USB devices, and they went ZOMBIE, so I powered down, waited 5 minutes, and powered up.  Neither will detect any longer.

Definitely seems to be a power component failure.  Pretty much every board will fail within a day or two, I suspect.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.

I thought they were being tested before shipment, I guess not very well.

Fingers crossed all boards aren't zombies.

What is warranty recourse if so Barntech? Not hating or sending 'bad vibes', just want to know.

I have 8 - Eight boards, two of them lost the green light early in the startup/setup process yesterday evening.  I had six working late last night for a while, lost another to the "green ghost failure" latter last night.  I had 5 boards running about 1 hour ago and checking on them I see that another board has failed.

I'm down to 4 working boards and those are hashing around 18.x GH/s  using default settings of 40:1:850  on Windows 7 computer.

All 5 of my drillbit thumbs are still working although one is significantly under performing.

I've got one out of four that is still working perfectly.  One burned up in a puff of smoke this morning, one hashes full speed, but puts out three times as many hw errors as it does accepted shares.  One is still hashing, but acts like it has chips going out.  It was hashing at 21+ gigahashes and now it's down to 15 with a bunch of asic time out errors.

I'll sit back and wait at this point because that is all I can do. I believe at this point this is a hardware issue and firmware will not be able to fix the damage that has been done. We shall see what Barntech and his team comes up with to resolve the issues. I hope that the boards can be repaired at this point and are not paperweights.

My one drillbit 8 board hashed away stable all night at 18.5Gh/s with int:52:2:850 settings, board has one high speed fan on the heatsink side and is cool to the touch.

Given that a few people are reporting power issues, my inclination is to keep using the lower power 850 settings until we know more.

With a laser thermometer it should be pretty easy to identify which components are dissipating power in a zombie board.  The border between the hot and cold worlds defines the space of whcih compenents are most likely failing.  I have no problem desoldering and replacing any of the bits, but it's not a task I'm likely to undertake unless I'm pretty sure the fix is going to work, as it is very time-consuming.  I'm hoping someone else can do the work of generating a high-probability diagnosis.  I'll bust my knuckles to verify it pragmatically.

Three of my boards are no longer responding with a green light. The other five are unstable beyond two to five minutes. The thumb is still running fine though.

Does anyone know of a way to reset the three dead boards? If not, can I mail it back to be fixed?

My advise is don't try using a mini-plane at all and definitely do not try the double scroll. It may disable your boards.

I just tried putting power to the board that wasn't working anymore and something went up in smoke.  It's dead for sure.  : (

Chad

That's scary... but at least it's the first and only magic smoke release after going "green ghost" that I've heard of. Two of my four boards are still stuck as LED-less dead weight, but the other two are hashing away stably at about 19gh/s on default settings. I thought I was unlucky yesterday, now I'm counting my blessings to have working boards at all.

Did I help you out, or otherwise say something useful? A handful of satoshis are a great way to say thanks! - Address: 18JUKdmE1Satf8HJUU3pf7iu5ymQX8AzER

So is there a heat issue with these boards?
Did you guys overclock, and did any of you use a fan?
