I went to check on my computer and it's 6 hashing boards to find it had lost it's video display again.  Checked my hashrate graph and saw that it had collapsed so those Drillbit boards are causing my computer to have problems.  The thing is, that computer is only powering 1 Eight board and 1 usb drillbit.  All the other boards are being powered by an external power supply and 4 of the USB drillbits are on a powered hub.

I think its caused by the usb bus.  I'm off to reboot and see if it will run with just 4 boards.

I'm not mining with my video card.

I doubt that. Are you trying to mine with your video card at the same time?

Is there a fuse of some kind in these boards that's tripping and that's why initially working boards have their LEDs go off and nothing can bring them back on again? If so, why is it tripping in normal operation, and what can be done to fix that?

I really want all four of my boards working, and the lack of results no matter what I do is making me kind of angry with these stupid things.

I'm also receiving "Drillbit detect (2:1) failed to initialize (incorrect device?)" errors.  Anyone else seeing this?

I saw that when trying to specify --usb for a device which had gone zombie but not yet been power cycled (but also hadn't gone "no-green-light").

I had this happen a couple times... completely power cycling seem to help

I've got one board that hashes at full speed, but puts out about 75% hardware errors.  I tried another board with the same power/usb cable and it works just fine.  I've got three boards up and running on three different computers at the moment.  They all seem to be averaging about 21.8 gigahashes at the recommended start settings.

Chad

What are your "starter" settings?

My current settings are --drillbit-options int:53:2:850  This produces slightly higher results than 'stock' (int:40:1:850).

had some issues with 950, but will continue exploring
Trying --drillbit-options int:52:2:950 I am getting
'timing out unresponsive AsicX', the Drillbit 8 board doesn't start.  went back to int:53:2:850 and all is fine.

Cheers

I am seeing the exact same behavior with 1 dillbit 8 board and a raspberry pi, 52:2:850 works fine but [anything]:2:950 causes the ASICs to timeout and then the board becomes unresponsive.

With 52:2:850 there are no HW errors, but the hashrate is ~18Gh/s. Could this be a heating issue? If there was a heating issue I'd assume the HW error count would go up, but maybe there is some hidden throttling happening?

I'm going to leave it running overnight to see where the speed averages out to by the morning.

Well,I moved my 4 miners to another PC just to run my Drillbits.I hooked up all USB's,installed Zadig, only 1 installed.I rebooted, reinstalled Zadig, all got installed....BINGO  Cool

All are running at 19.3GH approx.(stock speeds,no compile,no batch file....yet)................& NO ZOMBIES   Grin

No hub, just enough USB ports for the 4 miners on a 550 watt PSU.FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Barntech!!!!!!!!!!!! I want more ASAP  Cheesy   Wink

I got my 8 board but it hashes around 16 GH/s and keeps saying "Timing out unresponsive ASIC 6 & 7"

Sounds good. So you installed drivers for each 8-board one at a time, and it's been stable thus far? Smiley

How long have you been running it for?

For my Klondikes,I just had to have one hooked up to USB & install Zadig & it worked for all connected thereafter.

For the Drillbits it seems you need all connected before you install Zadig.

Over an hour & no zombies or errors  Grin

I think folks underestimate the power draw on these, just because you have 4-4pin molex's on each cable doesn't mean use em all, split the load between several 4pin molex cables.

I did & it seems to work,I had 1 that zombied out before & had all 4 on 1-4pin molex cable,I split the load between 2 this time  Wink

BTW,I REALLY hope lukejr gets BFGminer working soon, please help him in any way you can Barntech,Thanks!!!!  Cool

After more attempts, I managed to 'convince' the Drillbit 8 Board to run at --drillbit-options int:52:2:950
Had the 'timing out unresponsive Asic X' messages, and the board did not hash, so removed the USB cable to the board (while still powered and cgminer running), re-plugged the USB cable and now it got detected 'correctly' and is hashing nicely.  I did not touch it since.  I now have 2 fans blowing at it from both sides, the heatsink gets warm but not overly hot (can still be touched).  Also installed a small heatsink on the 3 MosFets (as I wasn't given the 3 little ones when I got the board).  The average hash rate is about 22.5 GH/sec, R:485 HW: 58 WU:315 after about 3.5 hours.

(the image is from an earlier time, but it has been going steady since)
Cheers

Indeed. I'll be hooking up my boards to an Antec CP-850 with three molex cables, each with three molex connectors. So no worries about overloading one of the 12V wires with more than 11A (or is it 7A max? depends whether or not the cable is 18AWG I think...).

Also I am not using a config file or compiling.Just run from the cgminer_drillbit app file, add your info.I tried to save a config & had no luck running with it.

I fell asleep and when I woke up I had a second board go dead on me.  It doesn't power up anymore.  Not sure what to do.
