Being a good speaker is not that easy. Despite understanding a language, standing in front of audience to address them especially for the first time is very difficult considering stage fright/phobia. But with constant practice and continues appearance on stage, one can gradually develop the skill.

When I was starting in my teaching profession, I was also you that is having a hard time with communication skills because I am afraid to make mistake but as the time goes by and I learn how to speak in front of the class I manage to speak and communicate easily. The reason for that is that you just need to trust yourself and just encourage yourself that you can do it. Face what you are being afraid of and overcome it and you will see as the time goes by then you cannot notice that you are getting better and better and a good speaker on that day.

Eradicate fear of speaking and crowd by indulging in active group discussions in your working place. This would help a lot.

I read what you need to start to speak in front of a mirror. I advise you to attend courses in public speaking.

Not too many hand gestures and filler words like umm and uh, not shifting from side to sider nervously, answer what are you trying to say? Don't stray off topic.

Being a right speaker requires a lot of knowledge in people, many of whom have succeeded in developing their speaking skills by learning more about social issues.

You don’t want to be blindsided by the size of a venue or a crowd right before you give a speech. By arriving before you’re scheduled to speak, you’ll have time to get used to your surroundings and, if you’re speaking from a stage, get a feel for the space. If you can, try introducing yourself to a few audience members. Having some allies in the crowd can only make things easier.

It’s common for speakers to start out with a joke, but Kokocki discourages it unless the joke serves a specific purpose. If someone is already nervous about giving a speech and then their opening joke falls flat, it could spell bad news for the rest of their performance. Kokocki also warns against starting with an apology. Don’t set the tone by telling the audience that you didn’t have enough time to prepare or that you’re not a good public speaker.

- Practice speaking on subjects you are comfortable with first tiny groups before proceeding to larger ones. You can even start with the mirror or shooting a video of yourself speaking on your laptop camera. Would give you sense of what you do well vs what you don't - Pick one or two persons in the audience you think looks less scary and pretend you are talking to just them. If you feel bold enough, for a hall full of people, pick one in each corner of the room. - Keep "props" handy to take a pause if you feel like you can't remember what to say next. A glass of water or a cup of coffee do well, or even a poster, picture or presentation you can walk across to to point at to make a point. If nothing, when at a loss for words just take a deep breath and count till 3 before you resume. Silence is a lesser sin that sounding like you are fumbling for words.
Public speaking is in lots of ways like performing in a play. Get involved in the complete performance, the drama....not just the words.

“The goal of communication is to land a message,” Kokocki said. When it comes to public speaking, flawless delivery feels great, but your content, and the substance behind it, is most critical.
