What happens when withdrawals from an exchange go into thin air?

You lose the coins.  Generally a good idea not to exchange coins during a fork.  You never know what's going to happen.  Now if you were to exchange coins to another coin, you're basically walking away with free coin.  Which is what BCX claimed he was going to do to cryptsy... like revenge for something bigvern did.  He had it out for him for some reason.

-Fuse

Yes I might lose coins but people will lose confidence in Tag. I might know when a fork going on, but there isn't a warning sign that pops up on exchanges or wallets warning users if there is currently a fork.

We've had 2 forks within 48 hours (I'm guessing) with orphans left right and center and no changes even getting thought about. A fork prone coin is hardly going to be taken seriously when people start losing coins depositing and withdrawing from exchanges. Having said that I know it's important to not rush into a fix, better to get it right than to create other different problems.

Re. BCX well I hope his motivation was justified. I went back over that section of the thread, he told people what he was doing, mining all the forks then later strengthening one fork while killing off others, and told everyone which fork to throw hash onto. Bad goodguy or good badguy? He never did clear up what he had against Bigvern, just that they had settled their disagreement.

I agree 100% with the confidence statement.  My pool is running at like 20% orphans for the last 24 hours, and about 10% for the last 7 days.  I know a lot of people just accept it, but it's very concerning when I strive to make my pool the best I can.  Whether miners lose confidence in my pool or not, it's not something I'm ok with.

I'd still like to see someone come up with some links to another coin that had similar issues to find out what the resolution is.  It would be nice to have some info to base the orphan/fork issue on.

That being said, I'm 100% behind TAG still.  I know it's still young in it's age, and I can appreciate the fact that it will have some growing pains.  I just wish I had more info to base my speculation on as far as what is going on.  Yes... speculation.

Looks like we forked again.  Tagmining is 2-3 blocks ahead of the explorer, botpool, hashfaster, and cryptopools.  Plus I had a string of 6 orphans in a row, with 12 orphans in the last 24 hours.

This needs to be fixed.  This isn't something that just happens.  This is a problem.

-Fuse

EDIT- Now we are on the same block, but different difficulties.

EDIT- Ahead a block, again.

I just logged in to see the back to back to back orphan run. That's not fun to see.

I like how lately tag has been getting more consistant attention and it's being mined a little bit more than usual, and the price has steadily been above .0023, and I also like how in these instances the chain has worked itself out--but I'm wondering if it needs some fine tuning to be able to handle the swings in hashpower.

I'm excited about this coin. But we definitely need to get these issues worked out. I'd like to start mining some ASAP! Cheesy

Looks like Tagmining, Botpool and the explorer are all on the same page now.  Hashfaster and Cryptopools.com are like 50 blocks back on another chain.

I'm still banking on whatever the explorer is showing as the correct block.  It also seems that if Tagmining pulls ahead on the chain for whatever reason that the blockchain eventually catches up to us.  I don't know if it's luck, but I'm putting all my eggs in my own basket.

Go look at giftcoin or starcoin or one of the many other coins.. there's issues out there. Tag is the only one I've seen "fix itself".

This is the only coin I've seen with so many orphans and still be a live, usable, coin.

we just threw 7.5mhs at the highest blockchain (spread across 2 pools) to power through the fork issue. Smiley
TagCoin is awesome imho

as of now 28301 is highest, eh?

Let this be a lesson learned, no pool should have more than 51% of the network, which I think botpool did.  They ended up getting attack or something, which isolates THEM by themselves just solving tons of blocks, then when all the rest of the wallets sync up, all of a sudden botpool is THE network, and left all the other pools behind.

Time for someone to start beating the "spread the hashes" drum, or this will happen again tonight, or whenever botpool has another issue.

Not sure... Fuse is off-line and I cannot reach Mark.. BOTpool has forked us from the looks of things.

PLEASE SPREAD THE HASHES!!!

Botpool is too large, which appears to be what caused the recent fork (which ended up causing other pools to drop tons of Orphans).

Botpool is at or a little more than 51% of the network, which leaves the network at GREAT risk of forks, just like this one.

If your on botpool, consider using another pool, such as HashFaster, Tagmining, Cryptopools.  Botpool needs to be lowered back to ~20% or so to have a fair chance to the other pools, and not causing multiple forks in a days time.

Without official guidance from Dev, this is the only way to help mitigate this in the future.

Botpool is a Chinese pool.  I'm not sure I've ever seen the ops here in the thread.

Even if we could get through to them, good luck getting them to get their miners to scale back.  What the network needs is another Asian TAG pool.  I'm really surprised no one has stepped up and said they were going to run one.  If I had the resources to start one up there, I would be all over it.  There is a lot of money to be made as an Asian TAG pool.

While I totally get the valor in asking large pools to step down a bit, it's sortof like entering your work sedan in a race against supercars and asking them to go easy on  you. It's everyone for themselves out here, and the asian side of the water always has more power, and they'll do what they want with it.

In other news, I could setup a VPS in Tokyo ... lol

Alert - TAG.cryptopool.IT - Alert

Use this pool at your own risk... the last found block was 27540... the pool is reporting this block as needing 153 confirms... I have not been able to reach admin, LeftToeCut, for several days... this will be my last dealings with this pool... I no longer support or mine at this pool... I would recommend all miners at this pool to contact admin through Tagyak, his user ID is Ingvar, to try and motivate the admin to respond.

The admin was due to be home from hospital by the 10th of January... I have not had any response from the admin since the 9th.

I believe the admin is an honest person and will honor his obligations... I could be wrong and if so it has cost me dearly... please do you own due diligence.

Any idea what the last good block before the fork was, and what it's id is?

Will the dev be issuing an update with new checkpoints to fix the fork?

One fork seems to have a diff of about 10 the other about 130

TAG seems to be sorting itself out but I will try to spread the message to spread the hash power. If it means creating a few pools as joint ventures with others then I can do that as well. I cannot demand that Botpool, or any pool for that matter, refuse new miners..:-) I can only ask them to throttle back...

As for which chain anyone should be on, I suggest going with the block explorer at explorer.tagcoin.org, which should always have the highest block...
