So let me get this straight. Recent developments...

  • Datacoin has an excellent online wallet (krypte.net) that makes the file storage/browsing features incredibly easy to use
  • Datacoin added support for files up to 1MB instead of 128KB, and it will now possible to increase that limit
  • It is now possible to update files on the Datacoin chain
  • Datacoin is on 2 of the 3 major alt exchanges, Bter and Coins-E. Cryptsy is also aware of DTC but won't add it because of the potentially large blockchain. The Datacoin dev announced recently that he is working on a lite wallet to get around this.
  • A potentially big new alt exchange is opening up in February that will support Datacoin on launch (comkort.com)

In spite of all this, the community has not grown at all. Activity on this thread has dried up, /r/datacoin has not grown, there have been less blockchain uploads lately. This seems to be completely because there is no PR activity going on at all. For instance, look at the Chinese DTC announcements and you will see that there has been no updates since a couple of weeks after the launch. They are completely unaware of the above developments and still think DTC is just a primecoin scamclone, and so goes the rest of the world who might be interested in DTC.

Look at the chart and you can see that the volume has been waning and the price is following, but it seems to have bottomed out over the last 6 days. I personally have been waiting for when I think DTC has bottomed out to get in so today has been buy time for me. The fact that the price has remained steady over the past 6 days despite no renewed interest suggests to me that only strong hands are left in the market.

Datacoin is also possibly far more distributed than other coins, according to the top 100 wallets. However the block explorer seems to be down so I will link that info asap. This hint of healthy distribution suggests that pumping and dumping will be difficult and less likely.

So what does this mean?

Datacoin seems poised to have a good rally, but we need awareness. The first thing we need to do is get datacoin.info and krypte.net translated into Mandarin. That is why I propose a bounty and I will pledge 30TC.

We also need to start getting DTC onto some more exchanges. Guys, forget Cryptsy. That will not happen until the lite wallet is made available. Instead lets focus on:

Coinedup.com - Post on http://www.reddit.com/r/CoinedUp/comments/1v9s0p/please_add_datacoin_to_coinedup/
Vircurex.com - https://vircurex.com/welcome/contactus
Mcxnow.com - https://mcxnow.com/contact.html
CoinEX.pw - Post here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291647.0;topicseen
Coinmarket.io - Post here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422726.0

And it would be neat for the block explorer Blockr.io to support us: http://blockr.io/addcoin

Don't just write "add dtc pls" like all the scamcoiners do when they flood requests. Write why you actually want to trade DTC. With easy access to up to date information, they are much more likely to add it.

I am also pledging another 15DTC . Nice idea to translate krypte to chinese.

Also we must organise the bounty-Lotterie for using the krypte services!

GreekBitcoin, great. Thanks. Good idea about the lottery. Let's make that our next project after we get the translation happening.

We made PR and sent it to many resources, look into this thread

We've also contacted at least vircurex, mcxnow and coinex. They keep silence, vircurex was in our 'mail list' just from the beginning of Datacoin - we sent them mails several times, with each major update (pools opened, HTTP server created, big promos), but still no answers. MCXNOW has just opened, so maybe they'll answer later.

I'll add 100 DTC for translation, and if someone makes complete site (I mean takes our CMS with CSSes and pictures and makes the changes according to language specifics), I'll add 400 more DTC - total 500.

Max: Ok, since you made a big pledge I think for security purposes you should be the escrow. Post an address and I will send my 15DTC. I am also in search of a Mandarin translator now.

they only have plans - no implementation still released. Bitcloud - we also discussed that with them, they still don't have enough developers to create announced features. And they won't be 'specialized' currencies for storage, so in my opinion Datacoin will keep its technological niche.

I havent yet send DTC. I will later.

Also what about giving like 50 DTC for every language that it can be translated. Maybe the 10 most mayor languages?

I notices that on coinmarketcap, the number of total datacoins was reduced by 25%. Is the number correct now?

The blocks for this coin are currently being imported.
You can refresh to see its current progress.

This is what chainbrowser says so i suppose it is just a problem of chainbrowser.

Congrats on the idea!
How much will be the total coins ever mined?
Or it has no limit and everlasting inflation such as XPM?

There is a max although quite big. It is 2 billion coins.

That being said those will be mined in a couple of centuries (i think i read 400 years somewhere) if we assume moores law will be the same...

Right now there are about 2.1 million coins out after almost 3 months...

Hi, I like this system (not just coin) Smiley

However, I have 2 questions:

1. If the blockchain containing all files will be spread on each computer, part of the network, how will we deal with the huge diskspace required for this? I have just read that the current maximu upload size is 1MB, however, 1 MB per what - IP, MAC, etc...? Also I do not see how if ti is wowrking this way how people will upload let's say 500 GB or sth similar, as then the blobkchain must grow into terabytes, please, correct me if I am wrong?

2. About mining - AFAIK this is strictly CPU coin, will I get a decent return if I use 16 CPU cores from the DigitalOcean?

Thanks  Wink

IMHO oocook5u should check out OFF (if he doesn't know about it already):
