Bitcoins should be no different than real money. You need to keep it safe. Leaving it on your computer is a lot like leaving money just laying around. Most people don't even do this in their own homes.

Put your bit coins in a safe place. Store them on a paper note, or put them on an encrypted USB.

I wouldn't trust large quantities of bit coin to an online wallet service but for small amounts, the online wallets are convenient.

Considering how wary many here seem of scams.

Would it make sense for bitcoin to implement a form of reversing transactions?

Would that contradict the ideals and principles cryptocurrencies represent?

I've been lurking on the forum for years - and I only trust one person on here. I know him personally. BUT I don't trust him enough to hold my wallet. I trust him enough to know what I have, let him sleep on a couch when in my state etc. Definitely not anything to do with BTC

There a lot of information out there about scams and how to avoid them.

Withing the BTC space there have been many well documented casualties.

It's up to you to keep doing your research and use some bad experiences of others as a sign post for things to avoid.

If you walk around with a sign saying Trust No One, then you're probably still trying to get over a bad experience.

Thousands of people are mining with Pools and it's all based on trust, else the you wouldn't see the level of adoption and interest that Bitcoin has created these past 18 months...

I put my trust in faith and karma.  If I put out good vibes they will come right back to me.  No need to live full of suspicion.

The OP is right, one scam after another with bitcoins.

I've found key-loggers in mining software
2/2 "fee free" mining pools so far have failed to transfer funds (this morning I find they're both offline)
Even the client has an IRC backdoor (*cough* backup network)

How bitcoin will become the next money system is beyond me, but I live in hope.
