Yes, there can be battery drain because of constant network activity. Probably, android client should strictly limit number of outbound connections, but I think it's acceptable to network because of potentially gigantic number of devices.

Is there a bug with the client ticker??
I own 1 million Nxt and my client has run for 12 hours. It started off saying that there were 10+ hours to generate a block, but basically for the last 12 hours the ticker has fluctuated from 15 minutes until to 12+ hours until. Currently it says 7+ hours.
What the heck is up with this thing? And it isn't new peers coming onto the network, because I have been watching.

this could make Nxt a truly mobile payment/messaging/e-commerce platform in the palm of your hand...extremely user friendly...if we can pull this off it would drive adoption thru the roof. Updates could be pushed out automatically or thru the Apps store to each device which could potentially number in the millions. EDIT: Anonymous mobile payment/messaging/global e-commerce platform in the palm of your hand.

Java cmd was running for around 18hrs, woke this morning with the following warning message. Posting it here in case it is needed for development improvements. 2013-12-27 04:05:02.198:WARN:oejs.ServletHandler:qtp753866237-1087: Error for /nxt java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space Im on win7 64bit firefox EDIT Re started Java cmd and seems to be running again but with this extra line which I have not seen before. Wanna repeat: don't invest more than u can afford to lose. And if u, %username%, just starting an investor career, divide your expectations of acceptable lost part of capital by 10!
Very good advice.

I would reserve every 10th blockgeneration right to the public nodes (every node has the same chance to generate a block), encouraging them to be up an running. If a public node is up and running AND an account is open on that node, it should have the right to earn some transaction fees (even if it´s empty - due to security reasons I wouldn´t leave my wallet open on a node where all my nxts are in)
Just my 2 nxts.
What do you think?
Any thoughts on this? CfB? BCNext? Nodes, that r being subsidized now, r supposed to become Service Providers in the future and earn money by providing off-chain services. They can be DACs after Smart Contracts r implemented.

Wait till it's confirmed. Use 24h deadline, squatting is over.

My aliases don't show up in block explorer either but I can still see them with the API call from my local and a public node too

That's strange. I applied for loads, can see one on my account page atm, but with that link I can see all the ones I applied for. Hopefully a developer can help you out.

why is it that everyone keeps going on about thwarting the ddosers with an army of rasberry pi's? if you had 10 of them wouldnt you still have to run all 10 through the same IP address? isnt what we need more distinct ip addresses contributing not more distinct pieces of hardware? or are we not talking about each person getting a stack of pi's but rather a pi in the hands of every individual who is involved in this project?

@ Nexern/CfB....couldn't "the Hive" feature work on android enabled devices if Raspberry Pi could manage it?

I think that's why someone earlier suggested smartphones which number in the millions...don't know if that would solve the problem though

@CFB ....is the above Nxt node set-up helping the network in anyway?
Only if it forges or push transactions/blocks.

Is there an upper limit to aliases in the protocol?

Yes. Max 2 64 aliases allowed.

25650 id 11164540618032626279 412 % this is current block, right?
explorer is still on 25404, not good.

Only if it forges or push transactions/blocks. If raspberry pi's can forge & push transaction/blocks....then I see no reason a tablet/smartphone couldn't do it as well.

That actually makes perfect sense and i was wondering the same thing. How much are the Pi's running for this?

With the Raspberry Pi experience I think it would be wise to be smartphone centric there is a lot of smartphones in the world with great distribution systems called App stores already in place. If we can refine Nxt client to optimally run on smartphones then we can greatly scale the number of nodes in the network. But for smartphones to run as nodes we need to have an amazing social feature for the general public to us on a daily basis.... Anonymous Messaging with alias from your smartphone. There is real demand for this....example bittorrent just launched an anonymous messaging service in alpha a few days ago.We should beat them to the punch....we already have a working android app with Alias search. https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,797.msg12105.html#msg12105you forgot that a good android client renders all sticks running android a perfect candidate as well. what about battery life that might pose a problem for device owners I wouldn't want to run it on the phone I currently use, however while I have no rPi lying around, I have 2 or 3 old Android phones lying around. If it runs on 2 to 4 year old hardware/Android OS, I would be fine with hooking them up to my home wifi and power and have them run 24/7.
