Hi all, Just had my wallet password hacked/stolen. 500k from my wallet (86162509365658888) was moved to this address 6122084737303019172. I'm guessing no one can really help on this. (Yes running AV and on an OSX system) Just a reminder to use really long passwords. If you dont mind me asking can you tell us more about your password. How long was it, was it real words, did it contain real words, did it contain true random. The more information the better. I would like to gauge the progression of the rainbow tables. Also: - Did you use an online wallet (not on localhost/127.0.0.1), even once? - Did you use the modified 0.4.8 wallet from several weeks ago? - Have you used anything apart from the official client? Nope local wallet. Always used the official client.

Didn't use the wallet during that time and I just found out about it given the sudden rise in price of NXT so I started up the wallet.

NO WAY to brute force a 20 characters of true random. That is the surest thing above everything else.

Theoretically speaking, someone looking for 20 character passwords may hit it on their first attempt, it's like playing the lottery. It's the part of NXT I dislike the most.

I know there was infected versions way back in the first days of january, can't remember which versions it was

Well, I doubt there's a keylogger on the system although there is a possibility however how small. I'm not asking for handouts or anything. I'm just pretty depressed by it and just reminding NXT users to use longer passwords.

Practically it is impossible if you have some idea about mathematical probability. I am sure the chance you hit a existing 20 random password is smaller than the chance you win mega-power ball lottery twice in a row. I could provide some solid mathematical calculations if there is a bounty on it.

Sorry, r3animation. 147k was stolen from me several weeks ago due to the rogue client. I feel for you, my friend. Fortunately, the perpetrator was tracked down, and much of the stolen NXT was recovered by RickyJames. This is a community that takes care of its investment and investors, and takes any breaches of security very seriously, if any of you new investors are reading.

Of course, using it for development and marketing seems like a way better use.
Absolutely. Only trolls and Nxt haters can suggest to destroy the money. BCNext suggested a great idea how to proceed with the coins. I'd say we should do it. Sorry to bring this thread back a few pages, but you don't get to spout such words without a response. Trolls and Nxt Haters? No, we are the community, just as you are and we get to ask questions and make suggestions that do not simply fit into your concept of Nxt. BCNext wanted feedback and that's what he got. Just because people say controversial things, does not make you an authority on their intentions. My posts were made with many questions in them, and your only fixation was the destroying of Nxt comment. Based on what I can see, you like to post alot, and that is great, but you better get comfortable with the fact that people will say things that do not fit into your box of how Nxt should evolve and calling them trolls for such opinions, will only show you in fact are trolling. Also, if you are going to call people trolls, you better know their history regarding Nxt. If you want to include me into the troll category, fine, but to lump peope such as Alex into that category, a lot of eff'n nerve. He's done more for Nxt in the last 3 weeks then you can fathom, so get off your high horse and get used to other people saying things you don't agree with. This is a discussion forum right? Well I'll get back to working on my next Nxt video, finishing my Nxt website and discussions with my devs on our Nxt exchange, even though I hate Nxt so much.
