1 NXT = 1 Vote on specific date cannot be manipulated. If it can, then NXT PoS is ruined.

If we can think up a simple (requirement 1) system that can be explained to any voter (requirement 2) that has a low probability of abuse (requirement 3) that also allows for tweaking in the future based on new insights (requirement 4), then I say implement it and accept that at some point it will f*ck up and we will be prepared for that.

XD heheh if we could find this, we could trademark it and be very rich

Offtopic: Distribution of nxts is much better now. It can be assessed by looking at average base target. We will reach 100% when we get 1 NXT on each of 1'000'000'000 accounts.

1 IP address per vote 1nxt per vote?

Would it be a good idea for someone intelligent to go through the thread history and write a tally of stupid opinions on the voting system versus good opinions on the voting system to try and get an objective opinion on how effective the voting system will be?  Grin

So there should be votes, but not all are meant to vote.
The ones that are meant to vote, are not the ones with the knowledge on the subject being voted, but the ones with the big wallet.
That is a sound plan to some..

i am coming to the conclusion that a lot of people are reading "stakeholder" and think of "shareholder"...

This is not a corporation.
Why don't we try to find solutions as a community and not as a Board of Trustees?

These people are so short-sighted. It is open source software for GOD's sake. You are not holding APPLE stocks. If you guys make NXT a rich guy club, then you are killing NXT

the chance to be a real social movement.

Unless you can protect the software indefinitely. Think about it.

I'm a fairly large Nxt holder and I would be perfectly comfortable having 1 vote.  I feel that anyone who holds Nxt has a vested interest, regardless of amount.  We need to have 1 Vote per 1 Nxt Forging Private Key account.
Agree with this guy

This is easy, the vote must be proportional to the amount of nxtcoin for the holder, any other system will be easily manipulated. And people are saying this will be a rich mans club, but there are drawbacks to any system. Those with the most nextcoin have the most vested interest in the coin and therefore deserve to have more voting power. The problem with modern democracy today is every idiot is allowed to vote. I actually believe that democratic systems of government will be severely restricted or abolished in the west in the future because the average citizen are getting more and more stupid. The golden age for enlightened democracy was in Greece in city states with only 10k people. Someone should set up two different systems so you guy can see how easily the everyones equal voting system will be manipulated and the decisions will be more stupid than the proportional voting system.

This is a large topic in political science which I have studied and my conclusion is that for the system to come to wise decisions there must be a difference in voting power based on the wealth of participants or else you get to many idiots, resembling modern mass democracy where a professor is equal to a bum.

Many people here are adamant egalitarians, but there has to be a balance, one needs some elitism as well.

Hey we are back on the voting thing again I see.

My proposal (again): 1 Account = 1 Vote. I don't think it can be done based on account balance. No way can that be fair.

Someone wants to create multiple accounts.....so what....let them. It will cost them and spread money to others.

Voting requirements: Account must have existed in the blockchain for 'n' of blocks before vote was initiated. Account must be a non-zero balance. (Will help cut down on multiple accounts).

Simple and quick. Could be implemented now, a website could even do it using the blockchain info until we get the VS inside NXT.

I'm honestly fine with this. One account = one vote. It's not going to prevent people from making 8,000 accounts, but that will be a lot of time invested for them if each account has to be funded.

This is flawed and can be massively manipulated

How so?

Copy and paste what mistafreeze wrote. Individuals with resources and a little determination easily flips this system on its head.

please read my reasoning here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4626824#msg4626824

The worst of account based voting manipulation  can do it to approach stake based voting.

Damn good point.

Yes but in these situation, it costs said manipulator NXT to do so. So instead of just giving away stake based voting ( I think I understand your rationale here) if people want to game the system, we make them buy it. You can only create N/2 accounts based on your holdings. You can only create N/4 accounts if you want all of the NXT back in one easy place.

At the end of each month I will donate some of them back to the community.
This is separate from my main wallet so you can keep track of them. I will keep them in there and only use them for hosting.

How about a hybrid system?

Merging both systems and giving them 50% power.

Number of "Yes" Votes/ Total Number of Votes = % Yes Votes
Number of NXT Voting "Yes" / Total Number of NXT Voting = % Yes NXT Votes
[% Yes Votes + % Yes NXT Votes] / 2 = Final % Yes Votes

the lesson to be learned here is not to use voting for anything too important. its very good for something like figuring out what to do with the unclaimed funds and for bcnext to gauge the pulse of the community but ultimately we CAN NOT let decisions about the protocol be decided this way.

Rep Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=381041
If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

I think with the development fund as low as it is you should consider setting up a Nigerian voting system. 1 nxt = 1 vote, but jl or cfb can tweak votes within the protocol to suit the means of any rich investors who want to contribute to the development kitty.

Haha! It was really interesting on Thursday and Friday of last week: We were having this same discussion, then the value of NXT/BTC started to increase and everyone stopped talking about it.
