Ethereum had 6-7 guys walking around together which made a statement and they all had matching t-shirts on. I think if we could have a good group there, we could gain more exposure and share more hands. should we try to attend also smaller conferences or focus on bigger ones?We should be attending every conference, even if it is just being there to walk around and say hi to everyone and shake hands. A continued presence will be vital to keeping our name in the minds of vendors as well as see what they need from us to make it work. how looks a schedule for the conference for the Nxter?A Nxter should go to the conference both or all days to walk around and network. What did 2 guys in Miami? Update #1 I left you yesterday with his first update that he had been speaking to Cryp2cash.com.
“I just spoke with James and Josh from Cryp2cash.com about adding Nxt to their offering. They appear very interested with our dev team working with them to make it happen. What they do is similar to localbitcoin.com with their escrow service, but they work with a debit card provider to offer instant transactions. This would allow us to get Nxt in the hand of everyday people, which I think is a huge deal.”
Update #2 Leetcoin – “Compete in your favorite games for Bitcoin.”
“The first person shooter we saw looked good (see screenshot) I spoke with the CEO. He is very open to the idea of adding in alts such as Nxt, I let him know we have a number of talented developers that could assist with getting a wallet to work. He’s agreed to do a conference call with their CIO, we’ll follow-up early next week.”
Update #3 Texas Bitcoin Conference
“We spoke a bit about the conference and they are shooting to be the largest Bitcoin conference in history. I think we need to get a speaker lined up and get them to this conference. Having this contact should help us get our foot in the door and really spread the word about Nxt.”
Interlude
“- Met with Paul from Cryptsy – Met with Kraken – Spoke about an article with Bitcointalk magazine – Talked to an ATM that will accept alts – Justabit asked a panel question and helped plug Peer and Nxt and Gocoin gave a plug back“
Update #4 Cryptsy
“I had a chance to speak to Paul over at Cryptsy. Paul seemed to be very familiar with Nxt and is interested in integrating. This is not a confirmation but as close a possible. I understand their concerns, we need our development team to help show them the way ASAP.”
Update #5 Kraken Exchange
“I had a change to talk to the team from Kraken Exchange. They seemed very receptive after explaining the tech (thanks to JustaBit for helping out with the initial conversation starter). I have the CEO information that I will follow-up on when I get back home early in the week. Peercoin did a great job of presenting their case, there were people in the Kraken eco-system that were already talking about it. Nxt was an easy transition talk with PoS.”
Update #6 Bitcoin Magazine
“JustaBit (who has worked with Bitcoin Magazine in the past for Peercoin and Feathercoin) introduced me to Bitcoin Magazine’s Elizabeth. She was very receptive to Nxt, JustaBit spent some time outlining it’s importance. They have a new head writer and wants us to follow-up with the Coindesk article. JustaBit will make this happen.”
Update #7 CoinFlash ATM
“Had a great conversation with the guys at CoinFlash ATM. They encouraged us to swarm the website to add Nxt, I will handle this early in the week. Great open source system that facilitates an easy way to add additional currencies. Once we end up on this ATM, we will use it as leverage to work our way on the rest of them.”
Update #8 GoCoin
“This might be one of the of most exciting updates. Justabit introduced me to the GoCoin (payment processor) team. We had an opportunity to talk about Nxt PoS and what separates it from the onslaught of other coins. JustaBit is passing on final information for Peer… once we have a solid wallet, GoCoin will be ready to look deeper into Nxt This was a great step and feel we opened up another door today.”
Up
Update #9 Bit Angels
“We sat down for lunch with one of the managing partners of Bit Angels. They have raised over 10 million dollars and looking to fund decentralized applications regardless of the platform. This could be a great funding opportunity down the road… in fact, there’s a crypto shark tank that we’ll talk about shortly that’ll appear at Bitcoin Vegas. Had a great time talking about Nxt and look forward to following up on this initial meeting next week.”
Update #10
“eB101 arrived early this morning, we’re walking around… shaking hands and make final Nxt pitches at the conference. Had an opportunity to talk with the guys over a Bitshares, we talked about everything ranging from PoS to encouraging communities to continue to be extremely civil and educating people that either misunderstand (intentionally or not so intentionally) PoS and next gen systems. It was a great contact, we are eager to build relationships with other innovators in the space.”
Update #11 Hive
“I spoke with the guys at Hive today. They have a pretty slick OSX wallet that is super easy to use. They are about to expand to android as well as looking for a colored coins type of implementation to accept all cryptos. I spoke with them about our Asset Exchange/Colored coins feature and they are wanting to get in contact to figure out our release time frame as well as the possibilities of using Nxt for this.”
Update #12 International
“eB101 and myself have been walking around shaking hands today and we started to discuss community organization on the international side. eB101 is heading to France very soon and has a couple meetings lined up to discuss Nxt and see if we can get some traction in that market. I feel like we could use someone that is in charge of international initiatives so that we can have a coordinated and uniform marketing across all countries. eB101 said that he would be willing to step in that role and help out the community.”

Please do, you would save us a huge headache and efforts, I say we pony up 3Mil Nxt total to compensate you for the work, would that be amenable?
I don't need this 3M. Let's do the task in parallel, spend this amount for the development of another mixing algo and then we'll use the best one. +1. Zerocoin's approach is not simple mixing, it's something more. And if the SNARK thing will hold, it will allow all sorts of applications. The ability to prove that you've executed some code might not seem like much, but it's actually very cool! +1. There's a lot of people watching the ZeroCoin project with great interest. If we can officially release NxtCash as a joint venture with ZeroCoin, that would be a big endorsement, and we'll get a lot of attention from everyone who is interested in anonymity/fungibility.

I am not a lawyer. Need a lawyer to figure out how to make it so we can prevent klones that blatantly ripoff NXT community's hard work. For graphics, text we write, etc., it should be easy to put copyright and that automatically limits theft.
Something wrong with all these discussions about licences. This is a world of cryptoanarchy. So you think is OK for FC to copy paste and then rip people off? I want to prevent that. it is bad for NXT to be associated with ripoff artists

All projects funded by the NXTfund, needs to be open source. unless community objects, I want all NXTfund projects to have a license that does NOT allow usage outside of NXT and NXT testnet. It is one thing to publish source and allow testing. Another to let FC just steal it.
If you are going this route, it might be a good idea to figure out what open licences are compatible with a usage restriction. A usage restriction is GPL-incompatible (section 6 of GPLv2, section 10 of GPLv3). Don't know about the other OSI licences. +1 Would be great if community could hint developers on which license to use! My own preference is GPLv3 for code, CC-BY-SA3.0 for all other things. But each publisher will have to make his own informed decision.

Exactly why the big push. Zerocoin/Zerocash will come out with open source in May. I want to have a NXT testnet in place by then debugged with alpha code. Transitioning to new SNARK will be faster than starting from scratch in May The hope is at some point ZC team will start working with us

Something wrong with all these discussions about licences. This is a world of cryptoanarchy. How about just archiving all work done (code, art, anything) with an independently verifiable timestamp? Then if anyone copies (without innovating on top of it), we don't sue. We just point out our original earlier versions, lower the plagiarist's reputation and maybe win over converts?

Funding requestWe have paid for 1 minute sponsor spot at the Let's talk Bitcoin for 3 months. ( http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=2976219914929693803) It cost 290k NXT for 3 months- anonymous donator paid 50.000 Nxt - neer.g would be willing to pay 1/3 - we are still looking for: 150.000 Nxt (they were spent from neer.g's reserv from NxtMarketing acc for now): first violet table: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgAGADgnQcrtdHRrV3V3Z1lzOXVEMWtqdElUaEtqV1E#gid=15First spot will be on air this Friday. You can see discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412243.msg4765394#msg4765394Could we spare some unclaimed coins for this advertisement? NxtMarketing account: 2037401990853753795 ( Info about acc) More info: Joefox already created first samples: General Nxt intro: https://soundcloud.com/whatsupnxt/nxtminute-0001Nxt minute: https://soundcloud.com/whatsupnxt/nxtminute_0002Important notice regarding Let's Talk Bitcoin 1-minute spots!Salsacz and I have been in touch about recording 1-minute spots for the Let's Talk Bitcoin network and we'd love to hear from Nxt champions all over the world. We're asking you to record SHORT (10-15 second) answers to this question: What is Nxt?Here's how to do it: - Go to http://vocaroo.com/
- Use your PC's microphone to record a message including your name (real name or forum nickname), location, and your answer to "What is Nxt"
- When you're happy with your recording, hit the "email" button and send your recording to whatsupnxt@gmail.com
FOR EXAMPLE: "This is Come-from-Beyonce, from Belarus. Nxt is so energy efficient that I can forge coins on a $35 Raspberry Pi computer powered by a solar panel!" I'll be collecting these recordings and compiling them into a series of 1-minute spots to promote Nxt. Keep your answers short by focusing each one on a Nxt feature that that is important to YOU. They are expecting a completed ad in a couple of days, so please make a submission before Wednesday, January 29. Record SEVERAL short pieces, if you like -- just keep each one brief. I'll wrap it into a nice package, and do us all proud. Good stuff. Week two is great. Week one has good content, but it sounds like a corporate advertisement. I think it needs to communicate the exciting community-driven nature of it somehow. It should make people feel like they want to get in on what's happening. I think it would benefit from a slightly more conversational tone too. Can you post the text, or send it to me? Good. I'm in agreement with bithic's comments. The overall tone needs to be more conversational, but doing that in a 1 minute spot is a bit tough as it needs to be concise. Week one's ad should really compel a listener to pull up their browser and go to nxtcrypto to see what it's all about. Assuming they've never heard of it before, the common reaction is "oh another coin...". It has to bust through that wall, deliver a few critical points and get listeners excited. I think delivering Nxt as a platform in the introduction is most important. For an intro something like "Nxt isn't just another alt coin. It's a community driven platform built on original code that's delivering features the crypto currency world want's and needs to move forward into the next generation." Then yada, yada with a few main points like "Nxt solves the 51% and even 90% attack of bitcoin with it's transparent forging feature". "This same feature allows the network to remain secure while performing visa scale transaction times." Cover the main failings of bitcoin and how Nxt solves them. Finish with the info source and hopefully that drives them to nxtcrypto.org to do some research. It doesn't have to be exactly that, obviously, but I think you get the jist. Just my opinion. Hopefully it contributes. We need to make sure people understand that NXT is currently evolving very rapidly. The fact that it can even evolve will probably be news to most people. We don't want people to get disappointed that not all of the promised features are there yet. I think we should talk about the incredible TPS, but in a future tense. Join NXT as we enhance it to the point where it can handle thousands of transactions per second. That is something that nothing else out there, first or second gen, can come close to. We need to solidify this in people's minds before April, when the attack of the klones begins. James With a minute spot, I would suggest getting a couple of different people to read different spots. You could have somebody doing mythbusting spots but I think it would be better to instead focus on the really cool features built into next and helping people imagine the reasons why they would actually want to use it. People are very creative once you point them in the right direction, but the metacoin layer thing is a tough sell at first. If you focus on the negative stuff people think about NXT, you come off as defensive but if you just talk about why your project is neat and why you're excited about it, that will attract more attention because people think its a good thing not a bad thing.
The perspective YOU bring, going into talk to people about NXT will be reflected in how they react. If you think they'll hate it, they're probably going to hate it because you'll couch your words in such a way to make them prepare to hate it.
You guys don't need to be defensive, you have a major advantage - a product that's out, and that seems to work with a development team that doens't have the legal liability of your competitors or some of the jurisdictional risk. Your disadvantage is NXT appears to be a bit headless, with a few self-appointed organizers but no real structure besides stakeholders acting in what they feel is their own best interest. It might be interesting talking about that, how NXT is a *real* decentralized org in that there is no formal company at all doing the development or paying for anything.
Quotable?: It's really interesting watching this community - you guys are the only "headless" metalayer, lacking a founder or team and yet delivering with real working software. Keep up the good work If you're asking for my permission, feel free - everything I do is creative commons, attribution + noncommercial
For the minute spots maybe we're overthinking this, maybe it should really just be the NXT Minute on LTB, and twice a week listeners of LTB get updated to the most important thing "This is the NXT Minute, this week saw the release of the new client that does blah blah blah" you have enough room for about 65-72 words in a minute of human speech, you'll want to pick out some music (I can help with that) and leave a little space on either side to allow for the fade in and out.
I think the NXT minute with occasional experiential spots shared by members of the NXT community would go over really well. Then you could have something that would always be different, always be useful and informative, and whenever a really good community submission comes up you just run that instead of the update. You get the best of both worlds, informational, timely and cheap while community spots provide the emotional and real world context. It would probably be good to have people write these and then have them voiced by members of the community who are a) good at that, and b) have good mics, it makes a big difference.

Who 'owns' the source code you are trying to copyright??? because that is the only entity able to bring a tort forwards, and that is centralization. doesnt make much sense.

I want to prevent that. it is bad for NXT to be associated with ripoff artists I won't talk about pictures and videos, I don't know how to protected them. But Nxt code is protected against frictionlesscoins. Right now if FC launched his coin based on current 0.5.11 binary, I would be able to kill this coin within 24 hours using a small java program and my notebook. This is how protection works in cryptoworld. Makes sense. Then we just need to put copyright notices on all artwork, text, etc. That automatically provides legal protection from theft. I just want there to be a non-technical deterrent from thieves. As NXT gets bigger and bigger, it can't help but overlap the real world more and more. Knowing identity of carlos allows credible legal threat to stop his nonsense. He doesn't care about actually running a coin, so your protection doesn't work. People will still get scammed and then might blame NXT. James

one of my lawyer friends may or may not be able to help http://bit.ly/1iemXbiYou can probably get a few minutes of free consultation from him on a call back after leaving info with his assistant. If he can help and you need extended time to talk, I can pay him in person if you forward nxt.. in which case pm.. there's a chance he works only locally though... but he's been helpful and very informative in a number of cases I had to deal with tho so figured it wouldn't hurt to throw it out there.

Something wrong with all these discussions about licences. This is a world of cryptoanarchy. yes, and then when anonymous user BCNext2 violates our license, what exactly are we going to do about it? Who 'owns' the source code you are trying to copyright??? because that is the only entity able to bring a tort forwards, and that is centralization. doesnt make much sense. My interpretation is that any NXT holder is damaged by anybody that steals NXT property. So theoretically, anybody owning NXT at the time of infringement would have standing to sue. Is that wrong? Use code as reference, fine. Make new coin using ideas in code, fine. Copy paste rename collect money, not OK. Steal graphics and documents, not OK. We might have no recourse in some cases, but if adding a paragraph gives us the chance of having recourse, what is the harm? Does this violate some unwritten rule I don't know about? If it really is cryptoanarchy, then I should be free to do whatever I want. Yes? I want to do this. James
