QUESTION FOR EVERYONE...

Some have asked me if we can lower the starting block from 26850 to something closer to where we are. It's a valid concern and we originally wanted to start at block 27000.

Nevertheless, we just dropped the source and have people updating their clients, etc. Would it make sense to everyone to lower this to block 26815 or so in order to start the Kimoto Gravity Well sooner?

We need to give everyone the opportunity to update their code and there are still a few pool operators that have not confirmed that they've upgraded.

Thoughts?

MoonCoin is in terrible shape at this difficulty and loyal miners are mining almost for free right now. 26825 would be much better and still give everyone enough time to upgrade I think. People will switch to the much faster fork as soon as they can. There will always be those who will complain to have mined on the wrong fork later, but really, if you haven't gotten round to realizing something with Moon is fishy until then, it's your own fault to mine on the wrong fork and lose some mooncoins. Then again, you can't claim to have lost many at diff 350 cough cough. So, the sooner the better as we have to pay for power on our rigs, too.

OK, I just threw 8 of my 7950's on Moon. Can't hurt.

Regarding lowering the starting block: if you think 26815 will give the pool operators enough time to update; then sure...why not?

How long until reset at the current pace? If it is 2 weeks or less, I would opt to leave things as they are now. Mooncoin has survived a lot of stress already and will definitely survive another two weeks giving the people most remote from an active Internet life the opportunity to adapt in time.

You dont want to run into the problem of confusion about 2 updated wallets.

+1 one and lowering it even further to the 26815 block. It's frustrating to finally see great activity on my pool but have to work so long to get the rewards.

Thanks!

We need to give everyone the opportunity to update their code and there are still a few pool operators that have not confirmed that they've upgraded.

Coupla days ago, Fedora TIPS was also suffering from an acute case of multipoop difficulty syndrome. In their case, the community rallied round and brought some serious hashing to bear and hosed away the remaining blocks in just a few hours, instead of the expected near-interminable several days.

Sure, give the pool operators a little more time to upgrade but the pool I use is reporting the last block found as "184 hours 54 minutes 38 seconds" ago and, as you observe in r/mooncoin, the degree of that delay is causing the wallet to report (what it's been told to be) a synch loss.

In the absence of heavyweight community assistance, there does seem to be a strengthening argument for reducing the collective agony by deploying the KGW as soon as practicable.

edit invisibel notes, on the TIPS experience: "Sorry I made you guys go through that, I should have made it kick in sooner, but I thought we'd get to 51000 by the 6th"

In my opinion you should estimate 24-48 hours after you announced the release, and change at that block. Send another email to all pool operators warning them.

If it doesn't change soon...people will lose interest big time...

stuck at block 26807! wait for nearly 3 hours! annoying!!!!!! Angry Angry Angry Angry

awww, didn't you get that memo?!
where? please leave a tip for me, thanks

It will take 2.5 hours per block on average for the next week if you guys don't start to mine Moon again. So, it's normal that your wallet won't sync for hours before each new block. That's what happens when the diff goes to 350 but there are only enough loyal miners to support a difficulty 006. Get used to it for a week :-)

This ordeal is a nice demonstration how important it is to have a loyal base of miners, and not just opportunists and speculators. No miners = no MoonCoin. Functionality gets crippled to the point of total uselessness. Lucky we got this new update, without it everyone who bought MoonCoins worth dozens (or even hundreds?!) of Bitcoins would have lost 100% of their "investment".

actually i follow usde very close, it has lost over 70% of it's value... because it's being mined and dumped.....

MOON HAS NOT.

there is some big people in moon, the price just wont budge, i fear when miner dumps come again so will price falling.  everyone is just in it for profit.

What trouble is dogecoin in now?  Care to elaborate?

The blockchain forked. No further info on what is happening or being done to remedy this fork.

26815 is fine, rather sooner than later, and updating a client or even a pool is a matter of 10 minutes at most.

26815 would have been good but I think it's already too late:

It looks like interest has been spurred up a bit since we released the new version. We've cracked 7 blocks in the last 24 hours. I think we're going to leave it at 26850 unless anyone can offer a compelling reason not to.
