I suspect you may have been using the Firm Odds betting option in-play, which is not advised because odds fluctuate. Instead, you should use the Negotiate Odds betting option and set the minimum odds that you are willing to accept.

The advantage of using the Negotiate Odds option is that if the odds reduce your bet will not be rejected. You will have the option to hold and wait or modify the minimum required odds for immediate confirmation.

How long does the support usually take to respond? I made a mistake when betting - I was copy/pasting the TO address so that I could send my bet, and accidentally added it as the payment address on the next bet. I have all of my bet ids and I did add my email, so I have the receipt. The bets are on the England game tonight so I would really like to resolve the issue ASAP.

Although it's my own silly fault, perhaps a good feature you could have is checking the payment address against the addresses registered with directbet, that way you can make sure people don't make the same mistake.
