I just sold 98% of my Nxt holdings this week because I see too many problems with it and Nxt community here at bitcointalk is full of knuckleheads who basically ran me off for asking technical questions. I don't know much about counterparty but I've heard it's pretty cool
and does more than Nxt. Can the community here help me get started?

Welcome to XCP community. If you want to setup counterpartyd client, you have couple of options. Check 'halfcab' s signature for setting up a command line based counterpartyd,

If you are a non-technical user like me, you can buy for poloniex.com/bter.com. Alternatively you can wait until tomorrow to use a web based counterwallet.

As counterparty is still under development its not that 'beginner friendly' just yet. There's some good guides to setting up the client bt its not (yet) 'plug and play'.

Fortunately our legendary developers have just announced a far more user friendly web client to go live tomorrow.

So to get started:

Read up a bit on counterparty.co

Buy some XCP on bter or poloniex (contrary to what some other people believe I think the webwallet will make XCP rise, and not diminish, in value)

Send them to a BTC adress of which you control the private keys

Give a go at setting up the client or wait a day for the webclient to arrive.

Take any questions to the forums of counterparty.co, you can ask them here, of course, but there's a chance you run into BelleBite2073 or whatever his name is.

I'm onboard with Counterparty and I'm trying to decide if I should invest in the others too (Mastercoin, Ethereum, Colored Coins, ProtoShares).  From the perspective of a person who is pro-Counterparty, how does Mastercoin compare as a whole (tech, team, trajectory, etc)?  I realize this question has probably lead to many a flameware in the past but I'm still hoping to find an answer.  PMs or links are welcome.

Nxt's wallet. The new online webwallet coming out seems almost exactly like a Nxt brainwallet.

When the online wallet launches tomorrow does it work standalone or do I need to have things installed on my computer for it to work?

I've also read you need to install bitcoind. I've always used Multibit for BTC so I don't have to download the blackchain.
Do I need to have bitcoind to use counterparty?

Also, is counterparty considered POW or POS?

For the counterwallet, you don't need to install any thing on your computer. Just create a complicated passphrase and remember it in your brain.

There is no mining. All the XCP coins that will ever exist had been created by burning the BTCs in January. All the transactions will be stored in BTC blockchain. There is no proof of stake mining too. The only way you gain by investing in XCP is if the price of XCP goes up.

XCP is deflationary. 0.5 XCP will be destroyed for each user created assets.

Very small editing error thing, but when I went to convert BTC to XRP the pop up box reads:

In order to do things with Counterparty, your address needs to contain at one confirmed "unspent output" for each action you want to do (e.g. send, create asset, etc).

I believe you want this to read "at least one confirmed"

I just tried to create a new webwallet but nothing happened after clicking on the "Open Wallet" button.

Sorry guys, we went to the new build system for the site and it seems there's a bug with firefox at least when the source files are minified (while it works on chrome). We'll be fixing this ASAP, however the site should be working again as I switched it to use the non-minified sources.

(currently rebuilding the database due to an update, should only take 10 minutes)
