I'm tired of explaining it people..You wait and see...The most profitable coin + long diff retarget = huge problems...anyway I keep mining it for now, will leave once we get thoose problems mentioned few times.

I'm writing it because I really like this coin and the idea, but it has no chance to survive with this retarget Sad Time for change would be now, not when we are listed on few exchanges....

Just a quote from other topic that explain well this concept:

Code:
So i think Ron paul coin is a great example why Kimotos gravity well is a great option Cheesy

Current Difficulty   78.27411168
Est. Next Difficulty   4.17035817 (Change in 98 Blocks)

Their average round time at the moment is 37 minutes, where it should be 2 minutes per block!
As noted, the reason other alt-coins are having huge problems is because of the multi-coin pools (e.g. [Suspicious link removed]). They'll hop on a profitable coin for 10, 15, 60, whatever minutes and then move away when the difficulty vs. price is no longer favorable. RPC has a network hash rate of what -- 228MHash! So when [Suspicious link removed] jumps on with 1GHash, it's a huge problem. That can't currently happen with VTC because you need to run a custom version of cgminer, which targets the different PoW algorithm. Of course, if a bunch of copycat coins start using the same PoW algo (Scrypt-Adaptive-N-Factor or whatever we're calling it), then maybe someone will make a multi-coin pool that runs for all of those pools. If that happens, as the first coin to use the new PoW, VTC will likely have a large enough following that the multi-coin pools won't be much of a problem.

All that said, I don't mind the idea of shorter rounds and/or faster confirmations. 2016 blocks was a figure chosen because adjusting every two weeks sounded like a good idea back in 2008 or whatever. Now, I'd agree that block adjustment times have no need of being measured in days let alone weeks. With 2.5 minute average block times, I wouldn't be opposed to adjusting difficulty every 24 or 48 blocks (one or two hours).

YOU are WRONG...Klondike coin is just one example...they had 1 days diff adjustment, and were few days old...when they got to top 1 profitability, hashrate start growing and this was not multipools...Just normal people...and when they stopped being profitable, their adjustment took 3 days instead of 24hours...

You all think multipools does that, whatever wrong happens it's multipools...I see so many people here, talking how difficult is to setup this mining but it's not..It took me 5min to download software, open topic from OP about settings and I was hashing 450kh/s with my r9 290...LOL THAT COMPLICATED..

anyway...we will have to wait and see cause I see there is no way to convince You people..You all are stacked in this thinking "this altcoin is special, different, it won't happen to us"..lol

SHOW ME 1 scrypt or scrypt-jane coin apart from DOGE and Litecoin, that have more than let say 2 hours diff retarget time, is alive for more than 1 month and it's being profitable to mine through all this time..

Tons going on in vertcoin dev channels behind the scenes guys - we'll have some exciting news for you all soon.

Tons is rather vague, some updates would be nice. Really hating the marketing efforts going on here.

I'm pretty sure the 2016 block adjustment + extremely low difficulty setting was ONLY chosen so that the dev (and whoever was there on the first day) could make a killing in number of coins minted. You guys are aware that almost 10.000 blocks or 500.000 VTC and hence about HALF of all coins in existence were mined on the first day because of these "unfortunate" and "accidental" settings? http://explorer.vertcoin.org/chain/Vertcoin?hi=9499&count=500

In other words, about 17 days worth of coin creation happened within 15h. This would have not been possible if VTC had a fast difficulty adjustment. So I think this setting was intentional at the beginning. But it can/should be changed now. Wink

Wow wasn't aware of this. This clearly show the weakness of the difficulty adjustment chosen.

We were the 2nd biggest traded currency on CoinedUp today, with nearly 30BTC of volume, more than LTC/BTC, LOT and only second in volume to DOGE!

Here's our 10 day price chart since going on CoinedUp:

Remember to keep asking at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291647.0 if you want to trade VTC at Coinex.pw

Fantastic news! I'm not remotely surprised.

Eh. Wrong!! to bad your too late for the party, but I found out about this coins a days or so after it came out.
It was on 1 difficulty for like 4 days. Anyone could have grabbed some serious coins those first few days. I did pretty good seeing as I have only have one GPU.

so I sent some vtc to coined up about an hour ago, not received on my wallet there. My wallet here still says 0 of 6 confirm.

Anyone know how long this is going to take to post to coinedup? My btc deposits were about 15 minutes.

(I sent more earlier but the status for that order is the same. I have waited over an hour and zero confirms... what does 0/offline mean and how do I fix it?)

1) Close VTC wallet.
2) Delete  \AppData\Roaming\Vertcoin\chainstate
3) Run VTC wallet.

I'm an old dude. Sorry. where do I find  \AppData\Roaming\Vertcoin\chainstate ?

Thanks much.

Started a p2pool for testing at http://p2pool.etyd.org:9171 so far we've found 2 blocks, and payouts appear to be working. No fees for now.

For those unfamiliar with P2Pool; it works like a normal pool with that you get payouts once a block is found, the main difference for you as a user is that you get the payout directly to the address that you use as your worker username. The payout system is based on PPLNS

Connect with:
Code:
url: stratum+tcp://p2pool.etyd.org:9171
user: your vertcoin wallet address
pass: anything

You can use the same address for several workers (but its probably a good idea to use a separate address if you have a worker that much slower than your other workers).

Some configuration examples:
cpuminer using the build from http://www.vertcoin.org
Code:
cpuminer -o stratum+tcp://p2pool.etyd.org:9171 -u yourvertcoinaddress -p x

cudaminer using the build from http://www.vertcoin.org
Code:
cudaminer -o stratum+tcp://p2pool.etyd.org:9171 -u yourvertcoinaddress -p x --algo=scrypt:2048

That will autotune.

cgminer using the build from http://www.vertcoin.org
Code:
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://p2pool.etyd.org:9171 -u yourvertcoinaddress -p x

Extremely basic cgminer configuration, you will need to add more options please see this thread for example configurations .

The "pool requested work restart" message in cgminer is normal, it says that every time the vertcoin network finds a new block.

Thanks to bengt my own node is up too. Couldn't sort out what setting I had wrong, but we did get our nodes connected. So the pool hash rate is both together and it helps all miners on both nodes get payouts sooner. Smiley

Connect with:
Code:
url: stratum+tcp://vtc.royalminingco.com:9171
user: your vertcoin wallet address
pass: anything

Web stats: http://vtc.royalminingco.com:9171/static/index.html

My pool does have a 1% fee.

coined up is really fun when dealing with VTC..
last time it took me 3 hours to get deposit through.. I did not even sell that coins as I realised its potential, so I wanted to withdraw it, and that time I had to put W request 5x before it went through.. uf.. hope coinex will soon offer trading with vert, as coined up is really slow..

Care to substantiate your claim?

And by serious coin you surely mean 1000-5000 coins, but nothing like the 500.000 that were handed over in the first 15h. Just look at the block explorer link I've posted - difficulty started at <0.000x and was still <=0.038 after 15h.

I don't really mind if the dev gets some easy coin as an incentive for his work - work that hopefully occurs in the past and future. I hold some coin as well. What I dislike is the dishonesty saying that it was "not" premined at all. A low difficulty at the beginning is similar to a premine, so vertcoin has an effective premine of at least 0.5%. We should be at block ~8000 but we are at ~23000.
