I think it's silly that people get excited because 'Starbucks is accepting Crypto'?
Who cares? The potential of crypto is far beyond buying coffee, and the future and big money won't be coming from people buying coffee!
There are very interesting blockchain-based projects, that might actually change global industries entirely.
Either crypto succeeds and is adopted everywhere, not one 'brandname' at a time, or it fails.

There's already been cases of companies adopting crypto payments, bitcoin payments specifically, and then removing it.
This is just marketing for Starbucks to a surge of customers.
Adopt crypto, and then every crypto holder suddenly needs a cup of coffee..

Starbucks was just an example because that is the service that is used in the video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXnBEor6440&t=1s

There are other options such as Amazon and Xbox and at least another 350 brands as well

Buying gift cards with crypto? I honestly fail to see the importance of this.
If all that came from crypto is an alternative payment method, then we failed with one of the greatest technological inventions.

LOL so what do you see cryptocurrency as? Maybe 'currency' has a different definition where you come from but as far as I'm aware its a medium of exchange for goods and services. If you are discussing Blockchain then that is a different matter.

it is very unfortunate that there is no Starbucks in my city, but many shops start using crypto currency, I think it's very good and it will help the crypto currency to become more popular

So your point would be not to use crypto at all? This is a solution for not having to convert back to fiat and not having to pay fees.
No my point is quite the contrary. Why don't they implement a solution where you and I can buy directly with crypto, without any sort of intermediary? What's preventing them to do so?

If this is possible. Specially with well known, company for which located all over the world. The public may embraced cryptocurrency more and attracting participants or investors. this would benefit all the existing project or the whole crypto community. but  this is far from happening from now. at the current situation some government is trying to regulate cryptocurrency  and in some countries it is accompanied with scam. so having a day to day transactions with cryptocurrency and local stores could change a lot.

LOL so what do you see cryptocurrency as? Maybe 'currency' has a different definition where you come from but as far as I'm aware its a medium of exchange for goods and services. If you are discussing Blockchain then that is a different matter.

You're right about that, but what I'm talking about is how every time some company mentions adopting crypto as a payment method, everyone goes like "wow".
it's just the company gaining media attention, do you think people wouldn't buy coffee from Starbucks if they didn't take crypto?

What I'm saying is just that there's too much focus on individual companies adopting crypto, because that's not going to work out long term. Things like this post is basically just giving the company what they want, more media attention. They run a business and they are talking about crypto to get publicity, just as any other company talking about crypto in any way which leads to their stocks going up.
Crypto payments needs to become an important medium, based on aspects such as being trustless, cheap, fast, global, no central entity and so on, not because it just allows people to buy coffee with money they put in Coinbase, because what difference does it make then? do you want crypto because you can use it to buy coffee or because of what it stands for?

That's what I'm trying to say. Yes, certainly, there's nothing bad coming from Starbucks adding this, but I think this announcement receives too much focus, considering what it is.
They're doing it because they can possibly get more customers from it, and because it gives them publicity, which you can see in tons of other companies talking about crypto = company valuation goes up.
It's not about having some big companies accept crypto as a payment, there's plenty of mediums and gateways and alternatives that are faster, could be anonymous, could be cheaper (in transaction fees).
Crypto(in this discussion, say Bitcoin) to me is either it's all in or nothing, or do you only see Bitcoin as something you can use to buy coffee with, nothing more? If so, I understand your excitement, but in my book, it's far more than one new currency, if anything, it's the new currency - and the reason for that isn't because of individual companies adding the payment method, the reason is the nature of crypto, which is made possible by the blockchain. What reason do you have to use crypto if you don't do it based on the blockchain? As made clear by this post, crypto is not a popular payment method for companies, since it's big news if a company adds it. So if you only care about getting the end product with some type of currency, there's better alternatives.

To summarize, [company name] adding crypto as a payment method is minor sidegoals in comparison to what we should hope to achieve, and it's not negative, but neither is it something that is worth talking about. They are doing it for their gain, why is that interesting? Do you doubt the potential of crypto, and therefore this is interesting?

Or why would this bring in more people to crypto? Are they going to say, look they accept crypto of which I know nothing, now I'll turn my fiat into crypto so I can buy coffee?

and certainly not only popular, anyhow crypto will be more visible in everyday life or more beneficial to many people. And of course due to its existence is on the internet, this thing can be the one alternative way to transact a more simple, the world will become more modern than ever.

Good questions and I think eventually if and when the market finally wakes up to this they will, I guess what's preventing them is the current volatility and like all the other big companies they are waiting for others to take the first steps. While Zeex isn't a perfect solution it is providing an easy way to encourage us crypto holders to use our holdings within the cryptoverse  Cool to pay for services and products.

the news is very encouraging ..
I can sit down while enjoying coffee and seeing the scenery around, without having to carry a small buck in the pocket.
The news is good indeed, but it is not the same with what the thread name says. To pay with cryptocurrencies one would still need to buy a gift card first and then buy other things with the help of this card. This means that cryptos are used indirectly and this distance doesn't allow them to be really considered as means of payment. This is a good project, but such solution can't be final. Moreover, I seem to find to proofs that Zeex actually has all those partners and deals (this info is only going from the zeex team, not from those big companies).

Thanks for the reply you are a man after my own heart I do believe the crypto/blockchain has big things to offer. I just want to make it clear this was not an announcement from Starbucks, the guy from Zeex was just using Starbucks as an example to show how easy and quick the app was to use. He could have used the app online using an Amazon gift card or maybe gone to a store like Footlocker and use the app. I think using Starbucks was just an opportunity to demonstrate the app while the Zeex team were at Consensus in NYC as the coffee shop was just over the road from the conference.

In some cash-free countries, Starbucks has long been trying cashless payment methods, but the cryptocurrency is currently very unstable, and I can't imagine whether Starbucks can calculate its profit accurately after accepting the cryptocurrency.

It is a good start for spending cryptos. But is it cheaper to buy the coffee by exchanging the crypto to a gift card? Or just paying with fiat or credit card? Also with cryptos, you need to wait that the transaction is confirmed and it can be very slow.

Yes, the usual excuse is volatility. It would be a risky move for a company of that size. But without risk there is no reward. Imagine what kind of popularity and media exposure would such a step imply. The first coffeehouse chain to except direct bitcoin payments. Hell, the fifth most admired company worldwide accepting direct bitcoin payments.

Yes true I named the thread so it got a bit more talk going  Smiley

It is an indirect method but it works and if you watched the video you will see how easy it was to do with 3 taps while he was in the line for a coffee.

Zeex has a partnership with their sister company Zeek. Zeek is a world leader in the gift card marketplace and has very strong existing relationships with the largest brands in the world.

I think this is just a gimmick. No one mall will accept crypto currencies with uncertain prices. This is a very risky behavior. For a company like Starbucks, it needs a stable profit.

Starbucks is accepting crypto-currencies...well sort of anyway, let me elaborate.

At the end of June, there will be a token sale for Zeex which is a platform for gift card suppliers to sell their cards for crypto and us crypto holders to finally get the chance to exchange our crypto for products and services without having to convert to fiat or pay fees. Using the Zeex App you will be able to buy gift cards from big name retailers such as Amazon, Xbox and yes, Starbucks in exchange for crypto with 3 taps of the app.

We've heard many of these new Blockchain startups make lofty claims before but they are often short on delivery not so with Zeex.

They already have partnerships with Zeek their Sister company that will provide them with access to over 350 big name brands. Recently they had another partnership with Russian gift card supplier Giftery and there are more in the pipeline.

But what is really impressive is that they will have the app ready to use shortly after the end of the token sale.

If you check out the video below you can actually see the app in action in a Starbucks coffee shop in New York..be prepared to be amazed!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXnBEor6440&t=1s
That's a good news crypto is taking over the world.  People that called crypto a scam some years back should come and see now.  Crypto all the way am happy to be part of crypto.

This won't be an issue as you will buy a fixed denomination gift card for the retailer you are using.
