This doesn't make sense to me. How do you explain that the AntMiner S1's I received were prefilled with Bitmain's own pool addresses on all 3 fields?
Respectfully, what alternative method do you recommend they use to test their products ? It makes perfect sense to me, and I don't see what the problem is. Have you seen some of the photos I posted on the previously page? Your opinion might change. I had some dust in one of my machines fan, the other was pretty clean. They do have to test them you know. They also need to put in real connection details to do this. I don't see this as a big problem. It is just the nature of the business. I can accept the dust story Bitmain gave earlier, and generally I'm very pro-Bitmain, but come on guys, one of those pics in particular is NOT a few days dust. I've opened many used PC's for repairs and there's a huge difference between dust resulting from construction work nearby settling on the product, versus accumulated dust builtup over months - which is what I see in at least one of Billson's pics Nothing Bitmain has posted here suggests to me that they are going to stand-over that. I've read back over all the Bitmain posts in this topic (quickly) and I can see nothing that says these are 2nd hand units for sale. In my opinion this is just not acceptable and I do not think this is the standard Bitmain is aiming for, everyone makes mistakes and this, in my view, is one of Bitmains mistakes. I'd be amazed if they try to defend or legitimise this. EDIT : On last page Bitmain clearly say these are new machines tested for 24 hrs or at most 3-5 days

Has anyone else had problems with fans working on the Antminers. Specifically getting the rear fan port (male adaptor?) to work with a 4 pin fan?
No problems here. You might need to break the connector tab though as it is slightly different than the norm.

While the guy has a legitimate concern with getting used equipment, it seems that bitmain has reached out to the person. They have done more than most asic companies has done.

I am ok with getting used equipment as long as it works and it's it specially stated so. I paid for a new unit. However, it's a dead unit. I removed the controller to the other blade and get half a machine working. Bitmain pm me earlier with a rma address that is located in my USA. will update the rma process

those pics indicate months of use, and they did say units are new and only seen days of use. we should all support the member as right is right. hopefully Bitmain takes care of the issure, which i think they will but I also thing they might not if people are so indifferent. I dont want a used machine, and no one wants a heavily used machine which might die too soon...

This is updated list of people affected in mumbai plane issue:
user: units: value:
pjcltd 1 1.9 FlensGold 1 1.9 mjadid 1 1.9 s1lverbox 3 5.7 CroverNo01 3 5.7 biggzi 3 5.7 Tigggger 2 3.8 Jacko 1 1.9 motd2k 2 3.8 lenny_ 2 3.8 mruiter 2 3.8 BTCsovjet 1 1.9 hanti 1 1.9 BotwinBG 1 1.9 kaimee 2 3.8 Mis**** 1 1.9 Xer0 2 3.8 Biffa 1 1.9 rograz 5 9.5 gravito 2 3.8 davebodger 2 3.8 wickedsick 1 1.9 justice 2 3.8 edgar 1 1.9 ineedit 1 1.9 Batteryman 3 5.3
As plane is flying and there is no more issue, this list is only to help BITMAIN how many people was affected. Please do not count for anything from BITMAIN as originally issue wasn't his fault. I think that IF he will issue coupons to affected people we should treat that as BONUS and not as "reimbursement". BITMAIN thanks for hard work and once new sale will start i will make another order.
You can add me to the list, 1 unit was stuck in Mumbai. Sent on 21st, now expecting to get it on 28th.

I have several (from 3 different revisions) and all of them have been pristine clean.

My feeling is that besides customers in America (flying to the east), all other customers had their shipments stuck because of the Mumbai mechanical issue. I don't think Bitmain has to offer compensation for that, I for one believe it's part of the hazards that we miners must accept, and write off the loss, unless you wan't to fight with UPS -- I don't.

I generally agree, but it's also one of the reasons why we shouldn't be willing to pay prices which are too close to the border of profitability... there are a whole bunch of risks associated with operating mining equipment, including shipping snafus.

I would agree, but if you buying more than one miner and waiting time for it is more than it should be all profitability disappear. For us who buying more gear there is always risk but price in this case is something which can put off even big players. Dont know how long BITMAIN was running miners before selling them to us but within short period price dropped from 3btc to 1.9btc. This means that this gear is still overpriced. Probably beggining of february we will see gear for 1.5 maybe less. Or they will introduce new gear which will be sky high for normal people to buy.

If a core dev like you is following this thread, then we mustn't be that much off target with our purchase I would agree, but if you buying more than one miner and waiting time for it is more than it should be all profitability disappear. For us who buying more gear there is always risk but price in this case is something which can put off even big players. I think you have a point. Evidence seems to show with little doubt that they have mined at least weeks with the gear they sell now. Even if they say days ("burnin' yeah"), it's up to everyone to figure out what the truth is. But I think the profitability outcome (i.e. break even or not) will mainly depend on how fast CoinTerra, Bitmine and KnCMiner will be shipping. 28nm and lower processes seem to be the real threat to 2W+ per gigahash technology. EDIT: something I was also thinking about is CEX.io. They say 55% of their hashrate is Bitfury (and 45% are "external" miners on ghash.io), and if I recall well it means they are also hashing with about 2W/ghash. What will happen when difficulty makes 2W/ghash unprofitable? I know it probably won't happen anytime soon, but it will certainly happen at some point. Will CEX.io eventually shutdown, or will they renew their hardware before it happens? If so, how will they raise the reinvestment funds? etc.
