Can some of you please monitor your watt usage more closely?
My ant oc'd to 400mhz will pull 420-450watts, but I've seen it spike to 550+watts. It's sitting in the 490's right now.
If everyone else's does this, the PSU's some people are using might be too small for these spikes.
I was actually watching my power meter yesterday and noticed several large spike after i turned the remaining antminer back on. Sold today and only running KnC boards now, at 160GH for 175W it makes in more ideal for me when paying 0.25 euro cent per KW that running 350 - 380w to get 180GH. Due to limitations on power at home it is much easier and manageable for me to run over 2TH with the KnC power spec than with Ants

Hm, very strange. Which model PSU? Corsair AX860 or AX860i? Only thing I could see is that maybe the PCI-e connectors had loose connections (even if well clipped) which increased the resistance and heat per pin. Each connection had its own pci connection. With a load of about 175w per cable.
In all fairness the psu in question was heavily used. I had three 860w fail in the same week, all were RMA and replaced.
It was an 860w platinum not the 860I 2 failed and melted while running 2 x antminer (720 -750 load). the other did the same but with only 3 x KNC boards pulling less than 600w as i said the PSU were heavily used, but still the one with the 600w load was worrying and i had noticed the cable connections were running pretty hot before it happened. Either way all PSU were replaced by Corsair. Can't go wrong with Corsair when it comes to customer support! Glad they took good care of you. I don't understand why this happened to you though. When you say heavily used, do you mean the PCI-e connectors were in bad shape?

2 ants @ 400MHz OC only with "#" oc mode ? Have you changed other settings of freq file ?

380w / 180GH = 2.1111w x 205GH = 432.7w x 2 = 865w
thats my take on running two OC ants from a 860w PSU anyway

Remember that 865w at the wall does not mean the power supply is outputting 865w of DC power. There is an AC to DC conversion loss. 865w x 0.88 (general efficiency on a Platinum PSU running full load) = 761.2w of actual load on the power supply.

I wouldn't buy them at full price, but I'm running two S1s on a HEC 850-TS, which is the same PSU as this Cougar one. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=305Unlike most cheaper supplies, it uses DC/DC for the minor rails so it's perfectly happy to sit there with no load other than 12V. I think I paid $124 after a $90 MIR for three of them.

You need independent DC/DC regulation for machines which draw mostly/only 12v power. I think at this point only sub $50 junk PSUs will feature undesirable group regulation.

You'd still need the front and back open for proper ventilation, doubt it would make much difference for noise just having the top bottom and sides closed.

A lot of the budget Bronze units you see being recommended here like the Corsair CX series are group regulated. Even the Seasonic S12 II is group regulated although it's pretty well behaved.

To all you guys seeking PSU's at a good price, why not just do this: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17466433&postcount=444They sell for about 20$ on ebay. I got one up n running perfectly on an antminer. They arent the most effecient, but cant beat the price. Antminer @ 393mhz does about 425W @ wall @ 120v w/ these PSU's

That's what I'm doing, except I went with a 240v 200w Delta model which will eventually run my 5 ants OCed to 400MHz. Did you solder your 12v and ground wires directly to the power supply's outputs? Do you have a picture, by chance?
