Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I'm not complaining at all. But I do not agree with the testnet budget proposal.

I didn't check the proposal myself, but my stance is clear. A future paying testnet budget will seriously downgrade the quality of it.

As I understood it it's a one off thank you nod to for all the work so far not a continuous part of the budget.

 Not currently.

Obviously it can be cancelled at any time by Masternode Ops, but in any case, that is my only qualm about this one. I am 100% behind a retroactive retribution, don't get me wrong. And against myself I speak as I am in the list of future recipients. It's the concept that I don't agree with.

I'd rather see an Official Testnet Team that is compensated, than this.

Moli's proposal sort of says the above, but not quite. These sort of initiatives must be thought out with great care so no ambiguity "pollutes the environment"

Agreed. But that is the point of these first proposal attempts I think. To galvanise what a proposal should be and what the key structure for approval should be so that you aren't in a situation where something has to be cancelled. You could always submit a counter proposal Smiley

We seem to be in a real downtrend at the moment, anyone else think sub 0.01 is coming again?

We've just revoked the release of .52
Please stick to .51 until the new version is fixed.

Sorry
"hope no animals were harmed"

"I am really curious how the MN winners are selected in current situation.
From what I understood, winners are selected only from MNs running on latest version.
So, assuming the (unlikely) situation that we would not get new .52 replacement for a few days... what would happen?
Would only the .51 MNs be selected for winners, or would the .52, as its the newest version (although it was revoked)...
Is some central node "prescribing" the network which dashd version is the right for MN winning/payment selection?"

if I already updated - should i wait on .52 ... or should i downgrade to .51?

Flare:
what will raise my chances of winning MN payment?
"Latest version" refers to "latest protocol version" - as long as your node is on protocol version 70103 it will get paid - regardless of client version string

Thats pretty impressive that you can pay bitcoin addresses with Dash from the iPhone wallet.

That right there is how so called "sidechains" should work. No impact on fungibility, Dash stays in circulation in its native form. Continuous commercial interface with bitcoin but Dash economy is firewalled from any volatility in the bitcoin sector.

Superb !

Looks like we might be headed for a revaluation. Someone's been dumping 4-figure trades for days on Cryptsy and eroding all the support.

Possible re-settling at 0.008.

Maybe that person is afraid of the Bitcoin stress test thats going to happen next week and he predicts the price of BTC will drop because sending BTC will probably be broken with the stress test. Cry

I think the whole stress test is overblown. Coinwallet is sending TXs with a fee of 0.0005 (eleven cents) and some miners are even starting to ignore their transactions and not put them in blocks. Even if they do get included, is it that much to ask to pay more than eleven cents to make a transfer? Float your fees higher and you have no problem, unless you're trying to send microtransactions.*

*Coinwallet is trying to prove that Bitcoin blocks need to be made larger by spamming the network with a huge number of transactions. Ironically, he may well prove the opposition's point--that the system doesn't need fixed because TX fees can always be raised to cut through the backlog of TXs.

Damn, if you, of all people, Artoodeetoo, being the biggest price cheerleader is asking this question I wonder are you correct...

The problem is not just "to cut through" to get your tx confirmed, the problem is also that huge backlog could lead small nodes to eat all free memory they have and simply die. That was the case during one of the previous stress tests. This however can be avoided by rising relay fee on such nodes but some legit low fee txes will stop to propagate too in that case so no easy one-solution-fit-all here imo.

This 52 / 51 reversal does not help either. I sold all of mine a while ago, my MN included, so I do not feel it would be appropriate for me to say anything negative as I do not have a stake in this project anymore.

But if this thing goes down to 0.008 I'd be back with a vengeance, yet ready for 0.006 or lower. A lack of volume, overall shitty world and stocks markets on the verge of breaking down do not bode well for an alternative crypto asset, even more so, for a fledgling one at the time the Bitcoin's own future is not clear at all. I think what's going on is most likely the biggest challenge this community is facing. Is there enough stamina to withstand a lack of any tangible progress outside tech advances?

If only I had a smart phone!  I want to try this out so badly!  LOL.  Ah well, there will be time for that, especially when the stores around here upgrade to one of those payment systems Smiley  Can't wait!

As a tool to get people to try crypto and Dash in particular it doesn't get much better than this..

Ah. ok.

Well, that may be so, but a huge lightbulb has just lit up above my head which is that that iPhone thing has just made me realise how Dash fits into the bitcoin ecosystem.

To me, that is the biggest single revelation of the century (in crypto that is).

I always thought that Dash would have to carve out its own markets and, though I'm a holder and fan, was never too sure how it would go about doing that. I didn't count on this ancillary role where Dash can be used to transact retail items priced and traded in bitcoin. Sorry if I'm late to the party on that one but I'm still digesting it  Tongue

When I first read about a concept called "sidechains" in bitcoin, I saw all kinds of economic 'sicknesses' in that idea. Dash with a commercial interface on the bitcoin retail sector just blows that away IMO. It's "the business"   Cool
