For anyone interested, each private key is filled with .00001 transactions.  You can only transfer about 675 inputs out at at time, which is about $1 in BTC after fees.  You spend your time selecting inputs and waiting for the wallet to manage the enormous amount of inputs.  By sending BTC you are feeding the test and delaying transactions.

I need to transfer some BTC of Poloniex to a cold wallet. Is there any problem doing that while all this is going on ? (If it's a regular transaction - not one with hundreds of inputs and outputs).

I read this as transfer out of Poloniex.  I don't think they allow you to change the fees.  I think the correct answer here is to convert to DASH, transfer out and wait for the test to finish before converting back.

Up your TX fee so you get priority in a block.

It looks like the back log increases an hour every hour.  Anyone actually wanting to send bitcoin should raise the fee to at least .0004, this will need to be higher as the test goes on.

Fee needed is now .0000483  (about 12 cents).  Check out the stats here.

This is the stress test.  They are just having anyone that wants to claim the bitcoin do the test for them.  Plus now there are multiple users trying to get the same transactions.  Smart in a way.  So we had a backlog of 60MB(10hrs) of transactions last night.  Now we are at 160MB(26.6hrs).  It looks like the back log increases an hour every hour.  Anyone actually wanting to send bitcoin should raise the fee to at least .0004, this will need to be higher as the test goes on.

I don't support crashing the bitcoin network in any way and its unhealthy for all the coins but look at it from a business or VC angle who wants to invest millions into bitcoin, they want to know for sure if the network can handle times of high usage such as this and is it upto the job.
Would you want to invest pension funds as a hedge fund into the future of money if it can't even handle a couple of hundred btc thrown through the network as small change.
And should this not have been sorted out in testnet way back anyway?

Depends on how you look at it.  Does DASH do well if Bitcoin dies from this test?

Yes. They are finding the issues but not the solutions

As an example solution, why not add a spork to set a min fee override? When the network gets attacked, the developers (via a multisig spork, another improvement we've been talking about) just up the fees until they run out of money or they stop.

Like an enforced variable fee emergency override? you could have it proportional to the size of the overflow so the correction would be harder and come back to the norm faster (in step increments).

And before anybody yells: centralized!

Having a set of trusted users to administer the cryptocurrency network just makes sense.
It follows traditional models of network management and is a natural extension of existing network paradigms.

Sporks afford options no other (non-Dash-forked) cryptocurrency has available.

This is an exceptional idea. It should be implemented in bitcoin in about 3-4 years (judging from the blocksize debate!)

With the small inputs and a transaction size limit of about 675 inputs(I think it is actually about 10,000Bytes).  The maximum fee you could put on these small inputs is ~.0000675 or you would spend more in fees than the transaction.  Transactions with fees above ~.00007 should still go through.

The wallets need to be smart enough to know the transaction fee for the speed at which you need the transaction to go through.  Bitcoin has a fast or slow bar for confirmations, but I don't think this changes with network conditions - I could be wrong here.

When I guinea pigged this spam/stress test (purely for research purposes, of course), as I was sending the btc out of the wallet and waiting over 1 hour to find out if someone else had half hinched it or not (all tx came back as conflicted btw),
I came to realize that Dash already has a 4 second solution to know if the transaction arrived, whether the blocks are full or not and it is called transaction locking instantX  Grin

I just unignored Adam White, to see what was posted because of YOU Lucas!  LOL, and OMG, he is so damn funny!  Can he be more butt hurt?  And the picture, it's almost like he's taking selfies!   I'm sorry Adam, but that was so sad, it was hilarious! Ok, I won't comment again, this was Lucas's fault!
He makes good jokes.
How could I ignore such a good joker?

Welcome to our forum.

Most of us are here for the long run, trying to acquire as many masternodes as possible or join up with other Dash community-members
to share a masternode and get some regular revenues from them.

Dash gives the name bagholder a whole new meaning and i for one am proud to call myself a longterm bagholder  Wink

If you can get 1000 Dash together you could join the network and host a masternode, get paid for it and then join us on the big map and even cast a vote on the funding proposals.

last time I checked we were in 38 countries, now its 40 and growing,
