Hey...Icehat, how does it feel to have been trolling here for 2 years, watching the object of your venom breakout and make many of us original holders hit pay dirt, when you could have been on the winning side.    Nothing you do seems to have pan out....

We just broke 58 USD on this parabolic prive movement. Nobody knows where this will stop and start retracing and to how much.
At 58 USD, I think Dash is still undervalued and here is why :

Dash value right now is not based on its present use but on a calculated speculation of its future use. We are observing a monumental and purely speculative value adjustment as people realise that Dash is probably one of the best candidate in case Bitcoin fails or in case Bitcoin will need to be supplemented by another network as a matter of complementarity. Investors are seduced by the prospects of Dash Evolution and I think they should be.  In my opinion, investing in Dash is a smart move because Dash has a smarter organisation than Bitcoin right now. Dash offers a combination of proof of work 45% and proof of stake 45% AND proof of added value to the network 10% where the value is judged through a democratic voting process. This is so smart and if Bitcoin had this right now, it would probably already be at 10 000 USD or more. Of course bitcoin COULD reorganise in this manner, but it is highly unlikely that this could happen. I think it is conservative to give a value of 5% of BTC to Dash even on a purely speculative basis. For this reason, I believe that Dash will be settling above 100 USD par token in the next few weeks or months and will reach much, much higher if Dash Evolution fulfils its promises and if the newly increased budgets for development, research and marketing is used intelligently.

thanks Vaelin (you golden god), I found the location. it was in User, then mostly all the folders you mentioned. Coins came back after a blockchain rescan.

updates are always a nerve wracking process for me.

Do you have your seed written down somewhere? That would be my go to solution if I couldn't figure out what to do with the .dat file. You should have it anyway incase your hard drive corrupts/laptop gets stolen. You don't want to leave that up to fate.

pardon my ignorance, what's a seed?

A seed is a 12 to 24 word phrase that you can use to restore your wallet. As long as you have those words, you will always be able to restore your wallet. Most wallets have an option to restore when you first load it. You would just type those words in and it will generate your private key.

That seed should be the foundation of your financial security in crypto. If you don't have that seed, you are skating on thin ice.

Find the seed (which you should be able to make visible somewhere in the Dash core wallet), write it down, then keep it somewhere very safe. Keep in mind that if anyone else gets a hold of that seed, they can rapidly steal all your coins.

Correction coming now. Time to sell my last ones high. I will get back in, when it is reasonably priced. That should be somewhere from $12 to $18. If Evolution gets released and works as planned prices like $40 to $50 seem more reasonable. Right now it's too early imo, there are a lot of other cryptos that would allow speculation like this right now, too.

being played-out by the more experienced large-volume traders.

This price rise did not correlate with Evolution or its upcoming release. Dash has been historically cheaper than this by a LARGE margin. Invest what you will, but remember to only invest what you can afford to lose.

I agree that everyone should be cautious and not FOMO. The price will fall from its peak--it just depends on what the peak ends up being...

That having been said, don't fall victim to the "anchoring" heuristic by assuming that something on the order of .015 was the "proper" price. Given our present features and our future potential, there is a solid argument that we've been undervalued for a very long time. Also consider that Otoh is no longer selling OTC, so all the big whales that bought 400,000 DASH from him in the last six months now have to go to Poloniex or other markets. If an early bitcoiner like Roger Ver wanted to diversify just 1,000 BTC (4% of his rumored wealth), how much slippage would there be? It would be huge.
