Continuing my darkcoin community research...

...using the forum extraction tool I am developing...
...here is how the title of this [ANN] thread changed over time, starting from day 1: January 18, 2014 (When darkcoin wasn't even called darkcoin yet...  Grin) until today.

What is the next thing you want to see?

1) Do you want to know who of all the darkcoin users swears the most (using words like f**k etc..) then vote by donating any amount to this address:

2) If you would like to see a word cloud of all the comments evan duffield ever made, vote by donating to this address:

(I will eventually fulfill both tasks if they reach 5 DRK each, otherwise just the one that has more DRK)

Have fun.

Am I missing something here? Why is Darkcoin the only coin in the top 10 to have dropped significantly over the last 24 hours? Over 5% lost.

You have all these great announcements and features (anonymous sending, open source, instant transactions) and yet the price just either stays the same or goes down.

The volume on fucking Dogecoin (that as far as I can tell offers jack shit) was 6x Darkcoin in the last 24 hours. It's like a bad joke. The market cap too is looking like it will drop below Namecoin.

Before any calls me a "troll" or "hater" (I hate people who do that), you should know I own a pretty significant number of Darkcoins and have for a while. It's the only coin I own aside from Bitcoin, because I believe in the principle of an anonymous currency and I like how Darkcoin has been developed. But what the hell? You have HUGE developments and virtually zero price movement or greater adoption.

I think it's time to face reality... Darkcoin seems unable to break out of a small core group of believers. Something obviously needs to give

Another annoying delusion that people seem to keep sprouting on here is the "just wait" mentality, or "to the moon". As though we're always just moments away from some huge price surge or mass adoption.

Get real. It's a fallacy and you're living in dream land.

Every top cryptocurrency has done nothing but decline the entire year of 2014. That's the reality. There is less steam now then there was last Christmas and most that steam last Christmas was a bubble instigated by the Chinese.

Just my take on the situation

Yes. People have been throwing their money into the fake stock market and recently the dollar. I'm beginning to wonder if the house of cards will ever come down or just continue on for eternity.

Even if that's true, then look at the entire market cap of Darkcoin... It's $12 million. Bitcoin is $5.1 BILLION (425x bigger). Why if Darkcoin is so fucking amazing is there not wider adoption? Why hasn't it got as big as Litecoin, or hell even Dogecoin? The bigger you get, the harder and more unlikely it is for whales to be able to manipulate.

The fact Darkcoin has stayed so small just proves my point... People aren't interested. It's limited to a small group of core believers and I don't understand why

I look at it the same way but I'm stuck lol. I see the same people here talking and talking and most of them bought at what half a dollar? I've spent over $150,000 when price was above $10 because I thought to myself wow this coin actually have potentials because of all these updates from Evan unlike ANY other coin including BTC. I hate it when someone talks immature specially when they write your ignored very silly to me.

I kept asking myself how did BTC go from $5-7 to $30 & then up to $120...To buy 10,000 Darkcoins at price $50 is half million dollars. Who do you think needs Darkcoin more than the Chinese now, Most of us here live in Europe or NA and most of us don't have issues with showing our money to our governments in fact people here kept saying what kind of cars they wanna buy when price goes up?

What I want from Evan now is to have a true marketing team in East Asia heavily in China and promote your coin because this group won't take us no where. Plus if Evan can't do the marketing thing let expert do it for you spread out; Evan looks like he's developing inside a basement of he's parents house!

I see it just the opposite. Now is the point in time when the adoption can actually start. It has all been just speculation up until now.

Stop dreaming of getting rich quick people.

The dumping we are seeing at the moment is bag holders realising that we are looking at several years before DRK gains greater adoption.

DARKCOIN IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD!

Where was Bitcoin after 1 year?  Darkcoin is going to boom and crash and boom and crash and gradually gain momentum over time.

Besides, why the comparison to BTC?  DRK is not trying to replace BTC.  It is filling a gap that BTC does not cover.

Am I missing something here?

I think it's time to face reality... Darkcoin seems unable to break out of a small core group of believers. Something obviously needs to give

I see it just the opposite. Now is the point in time when the adoption can actually start. It has all been just speculation up until now.

+101

Speculation to a point. Investing, is more representative.

These are my views on targeting specific areas (wrote them many months ago, so may need updating):

-----

While regulators focus on establishing rules that they feel comfortable with, the opportunities for crypto currency use over the short to medium-term remains around those areas of trade that court anonymity the most, taking into account the existing demographic of crypto coin users:

* Porn - Those that are thinking of using Bitcoin to pay for porn, the driving factor for internet adoption and innovation since the late 1990s, will be concerned when the media begin to talk about the lack of privacy and anonymity that bitcoin has. Anonymity payment tools are more suited to porn use than Bitcoin.

* Sex Workers - Those looking to legally pay for sex and companionship would potentially welcome a privacy centric electronic payment method enabling them to keep transactions off credit cards and off the radar of any spouses.  In addition, sex workers and porn stars are increasingly being denied banking facilities for unexplained reasons and because of this denial of access to the banking system payment tools such as Darkcoin assist both the customer and the vendor.

* Legal Fire Arms - As it is legal to pay for licensed firearms with cash with accompanying ID, using eCash could be even more convenient, including the ability to enable advance payments and deposits to be paid and large transactions to be conducted without the accompanying personal risks of carrying physical cash.

* Tax Avoidance Subject to seeking professional assistance, there could be benefits from using Darkcoin to avoid any unnecessary tax payments. However, careful tax planning is required to ensure that tax avoidance, which is legal, does not unwittingly lead to tax evasion which is generally illegal. For example, redeeming value to fiat in a tax free country or jurisdiction is a planning option that is open to some who can transfer their material place of residence to benefit from tax exempt status.

* Oppression As pointed out by the Bitcoin Foundation Chairman, using privacy tools can be of value to those living in controlled States or under oppressive financial circumstances.

* Drugs Soft drugs such as marijuana are not universally banned or illegal in every country or jurisdiction. With vendors having difficulties with securing bank accounts and having to deal in cash, eCash offers a more secure middle ground option for vendors and a safe way for purchasers to buy legal drugs without fear of being stigmatized. Where it is legal to do so, eCash may also enable internet and mail orders for those merchants that cannot access banking facilities where banks withhold services without proper justification.

While there is a desire to move into ordinary financial transactions, the initial adoption phase will likely involve some or all of these sectors. The transition to mainstream eCash needs to be weighed up with pragmatic short-term cash flow and brand building needs in mind.

* Beating corruption Charitable giving is made significantly easier with digital currencies. Projects all around the world can be easily supported with just a few clicks. Governments too may find that sending digital cash aide direct to the source needing funding might be easier and less prone to skimming by corrupt administrators. Using technology such as Darkcoin, such charity or government assistance would be untraceable and would avoid putting local people at risk of reprisals from corrupt officials missing out on their skim.

-------

The fact that ASIA / China accounts for over 70% of BTC at the moment, probably 80% of LTC, means the initial focus is either on getting some traction in the market, or focusing on dividing the market to East = BTC/LTC, and West = DRK.

A really good market that bridges East and West is online gaming which is why I did some research on it for gaming operators.
