Now how do you feel about decentralization? If setting up a MN is difficult or expensive how many people have them? Does decentralization bother you?

With over 2000 masternodes running now, it's hardly centralized, plus that is only half the function of the network.  We still have miners and our difficulty is high, so no fear there.

As for difficulty, if I can do this, and there must be 20+ tutorials out there, anyone can do it!  Seriously, it's not hard!

Finally, DDOS attacks are when malicious people swarm your ip addresses with requests, like download requests, etc... until you bandwidth is overwhelmed and your internet is shut down (for all intent and purposes)  Big sites have to deal with this all the time.  It will help when IP obfuscation is implemented with the MN network.

Is that implementation expected to happen soon?

Yup, I believe it's next on the agenda.  Now I'm tiring of your baiting, sorry.  Smiley  Have some cookies!  You'll feel better in the morning Smiley

If your coin is solid no amount of baiting should be a problem for you.

The point is we don't want a computer noob to have a masternode.
And we don't want it to be cheap. It's supposed to be expensive. And it looks like it's a good call.

Yes, but wouldn't a future currency be easily accessible to even the most basic of script kitties?

Sorry, I totally don't understand this question.  I also disagree with tombtc in that it's dang easy to set up a masternode and there are tons of people willing to help newbies here.

And still there are many people who cannot do that. If you are not able to setup a node using a guide then what is the point to make that even more easier. For the health of the network running a masternode should require at least some skills.

Sure, but if you want to learn those skills, there are plenty of people here to help you, don't you agree?  I think generally we're a great helpful group?

I am already well aware of how to setup a masternode. I appreciate the offer though. It does concern me though that it would take a server to set one up.  (Or at least recommended) People are still stubborn and will refuse to go to a coin that exist in the cyber world. A coin's best bet is to play to the people.

Ahh I'm back from holiday, super relaxed and its great to see so much progress in the last week.

Stonehedge is back  Wink  Grin

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Price is tied to BTC.  BTC is rising, we fall a bit.  My guess, and I'm bad at this, is that it won't fall below .001 depending on how high BTC goes.  I'm sure we'll go up quite a bit this upcoming year though.  One thing you can count on is that our development will continue at a rapid pace with all the developers on board and Evan continuing to dedicate his full time to the rapid pace we've been going at all last year.  It's been and continues to be a fun ride!

That's ok, we don't need more people anymore, we would be happy to go up another thousand, but after that, or even until then, we have plenty of masternodes to secure the system.  If people don't want to set one up, obviously there are plenty who do Smiley  In the end, it's not about the investors, it's about the users.  Those people who need to transfer their coins from one country to another, that are unbanked,  etc... when they realize that privacy is what keeps them and their possessions safe, they'll be coming to us Smiley

What is the maximum amount of MNs available on the system? Is there a limit?

The amount of coins in existence  / 1000

Edit: but at that point you could buy the whole of Greece with one Darkcoin

There are about 5 million coins, you can potentially have 5000 masternodes.  Currently we have 2000 which is plenty for the network to be safe.

Yes, but if setting up a masternode only exist in the hands of the few then we have the same problem as the banks. Not anyone can open up a bank.

It isn't "in the hands of a few". Masternodes are as decentralised as any other nodes, there's just fewer of them (as with full nodes in Bitcoin).

"Centralised" = Recourse to a central authority is required to set one up
"Fewer of" = a numerical comparison of population

Slight difference.

The significant issue here is'nt the numerical quantity but whether they are decentralised (as in new ones can be configured anywhere, anytime by anyones without recourse to a central authority).

There is no artificial limit like 1440 or something which would centralize the coin to the hands of the rich few.

PS. are you sure you're not one of child harold's puppets?
