just one comment on the masternode part, the 1000DRK collateral is not really removed, I many times move the coins to do something and then fund the masternode again later. I just stop getting payments for a while when I do that.
to clarify for reference, do you send it back to exactly the same address and use the same key, or generate another one?

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Talking of shakey exchanges and unredeemed balances, Bter's latest, 13 hours ago on twitter ..
''We have decided to rebuild BTER's backend, completely solve the wallets security issue and re-enable all the tradings.''

Completely solve ?  Roll Eyes

I didn't like the sound of that.

I sounded like the WERE'NT going to let people withdraw the alts before rebuilding the back end. (Because if they were I would imagine they would have trumpeted that fact).

I think they're scared people will leave the exchange if they let everyone withdraw now (they're right - they will).

Hey people.
Setting up my masternode however on starting MN in wallet I'm getting

"not capable masternode: Could not connect to <ipaddyofmvps>"

Checked settings and looks ok - defo right IP addy  VPS is up and running and redone darkcoin conf setup on both vps and local pc.

Is this more likely to be a payment issue? Any ideas before I start again?

Your masternode might have banned your local wallet. Try this:
1) keep local wallet open
2) stop remote darkcoind (the one that is on vps)
3) remove peers.dat on vps
4) start remote darkcond and wait until it's live (gives you valid responses on getinfo or any other rpc command)
5) issue "masternode start" (or "masternode start-many" - depends on what guide you are following) from local wallet again

143 BTC on Cryptsy @ 0.012222 = 11,700 DRK

The dollars on BFX I'm presently using to trade BTCUSD with, so this wall is now an invisible one in that I will support the price still at $3 if needs be, but I don't think that an actual wall is needed there atm.

While I respect your support for your chosen coin the idea of having ~400btc on an exchange scares the living shite out of me. Particulary Craptsy. Fair enough and if your willing to take that risk Im sure you have many more coins but trusting 100k to some random guys, jheeze not for me.

Yes, you have a very good point, after nearly loosing 100 BTC worth of CYN on BTer recently & quite a bit on MintPal this has been much on my mind, I may well move towards just keeping a wall up on BFX and letting the markets arbitrage out any swings on other exchanges.

Bter tweeted this on the 27th

"We have handled a large volume of CNY and USD withdrawals and we are going to handle the altcoins in the next step."

I thought about you when I saw it and was hoping you got your money out, sorry to hear you didn't

Thing is you can always transfer btc to an exchange if the price goes to where your buying anyway. The only time you may not have a chance is if somone was to dump a huge amount of coin. Im fairly sure that if someone wanted to dump that much coin in one go they would know your a buyer at around these prices and approach you to do an otc deal. You can still announce your buying points etc. Just such a large risk to take with little personal reward.

I'll still leave a large wall on BTX, but will announce price points where I will buy in large amounts if the price moves there or if anyone wants to sell direct to me, atm it's 0.012222 BTC/DRK & $3.00/DRK, with a guaranty not to go under 0.01111 BTC/DRK.

If I do remove the physical Cryptsy wall then that won't be until after 24 hours time so as to give good notice now and I'll make the BFX one larger when I do that as well.

I didn't move my funds off of BTer because moving CNY would be complicated I imagine, I guess that I could have done so by buying NXT but decided that if they allow that then hopefully soon they will permit DRK or BTC withdrawals which I'd prefer and it seems that the funds are safe, though I've lost a lot being in CNY while BTC rises, still swings and roundabouts.

Hahaha Bitcoiners are getting riled up over toknormal's graphic and this tweet:

RT, and join the conversation! This could really sting them!

I guess it must "scare city" for them.
Some really interesting responses so far...We need to make that tweet go viral! Will definitely raise some eyebrows...

Did you take a quick vote on which production company to use? Show some samples of videos they make etc and I missed it or did you just choose one yourself?

Yup. I was looking through the discussion and thinking the guy defending BTC fungibility is indeed an idiot when I saw Tao's face as the profile pic (recognizable from... the Bitcoin Rush video!)

The same 'consumability' issue exists for Darkcoin of course.

I think, in the context of monetary properties, the term "unconsumability" refers to the coin's lack of domestic or industrial utility......

That's exactly what happened in my XCP example. Evidently some people valued the utility of Counterparty more highly than Bitcoin, and therefore took 2130 Bitcoins out of circulation. They were 'hard' consumed, or removed from circulation permanently. As you well know, Darkcoin has another problem in that the coin has a utility as a security token for operating a masternode.  This extra utility leads to 'soft' consumption where the coins stay parked in 1000 tx vin increments on the blockchain. So my 2 cents would be to drop the 'unconsumability' comparison.....

You make some interesting points.

I hadn't thought of it that way because I regarded Counterparty's "proof of burn" well and Darkcoin's masternode security as still performing a monetary function. But your right that strictly speaking, those coins are removed from circulation so it does adversely affect "unconsumability".

Think I'll have to go off and digest that. Thanks for pointing out !  Smiley

Good discussion gentlemen; If I may be so bold as to offer a refinement here (no pun intended;-). I believe in a monetary sense, that we may be confusing the concept of unconsumability, with the idea of indestructibility. As I understand it the idea was originally used to qualify why gold made a good monetary medium, while eggs did not. The point was not (as I understand it) that gold could not be destroyed or lost, but rather its intrinsic nature was permanence. Whether eggs were consumed, rotted, or thrown at neighbors houses, was not the point, it was that gold being relatively permanent, could be counted on to retain value, and that there was no intrinsic drain on supply. This was not construed to imply that heavily laden ships of the Spanish Armada could not sink, and their contents effectively removed from circulation. That gold was not "consumed" in any normal sense of the term, but it was lost.

The same can be said for both DRK and BTC; they can (and have been lost) but they are not consumed in their use as monetary instruments. The case of burning BTC or DRK does not argue against this understanding. It would be as if someone said, "If you give your gold coin to Neptune by throwing it from the deck of the ship so that this storm may pass, I will let you marry my daughter if we reach port." The fact that the gold was removed from circulation does not argue against the nonconsumable nature of gold as a monetary instrument.

FWIW...

Je le hibou, suis ↄash; because while the days are evil good must hurry, lest evil parading as an agent of light restrict its activity.

As many of you know we where the first brick and mortar business to accept DRK.  I'm looking for a catchy phrase to post up on our winery website that is about to roll out about Dark...I'll donate some drk or some fine wine to the winner.

Our winery is Misconduct Wine Co. and it should be something smart IE:  "At Misconduct...we believe what you do is your business...thats why we believe in privacy and promote DarkCoin" as an example...

We produce super premium wines, some in $100+ range so what we want for a phrase needs to appeal to that demographic.

thoughts?

My masternodes have not been paid since the 24th. I thought we were passed all those issues but i guess the mn payment system still needs work. Disappointing  Sad

After hearing more than one person talk about getting paid one day after putting up their mn why should i not take mine down and restart them right after they get paid? That way i may get paid the next day instead of waiting 6-7 days, Rinse and repeat.
