Yeah if the only goal was to be the most anonymous coin then Monero would probably win

If we assume that to be true, then why Monero specifically, why not Bytecoin, Boolberry, Dashcoin, Dosh, DarkNote, DarkNetCoin, Fantomcoin, Pebblecoin, Quazarcoin, Aeon, DoctorByte, Infinium-8, MonetaVerde, OneEvilCoin, or RedWind (https://cryptonote.org/coins)?

Technology-wise there are only small differences, but realistically most of those projects are zombie, dead, or have no real traction (pebble). Unless you think no further development is needed, Monero (and possibly BBR or XDN) is the cryptonote game now.

I'm the de facto current developer of AEON so I'm not dissing all of them really, just being realistic about it.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

No. Darksend keeps the anonymity OFF CHAIN, no future computing power will break its anonymization. Whereas if you put the anonymity ON CHAIN, i.e. use cryptography to encrypt the mixing a math breakthrough or quantum computer or bug in the encryption or an oversight in the code will deanonymize your WHOLE CHAIN.

Correctly implemented coinjoin with off chain mixing is the best way to implement realtime scalable and usable anonymity, period. Just ask AnonyMint. Smiley

You'll note I commented that off-chain mixing is possible with cryptonote (on-chain) coins, and in fact easier to do because the mixer, like anyone else, can't trace the coins.

So with a coin that provides cryptographic mixing you get the best of both worlds, but not vice versa. FWIW AnonyMint did indeed make that point about on-chain vs. off-chain but has also (and more recently) commented that something like cryptonote (though not necessarily exactly cryptonote) is needed because it is the only "end to end" solution (meaning the end users have zero trust requirement on intermediaries).

And now I'm really signing off. Cheers.

Then, if you intentions are true, wtf are you doing here??  Troll smearing x,y,z, coins, near and far are also "some guy on a forum".

Whatever bro. I'm going to respond when nonsense is posted about me here, and now that I'm here I'm going to give my opinion about your tech too (surprise! occasionally it might even be positive). If you want an echo chamber with no critical views and nothing but DRK fanboys, go elsewhere.

Don't forget to advertise something.
Thanks for being here. This only helps darkcoin

Has anyone tried to estimate how many transactions (per second or per block) we'd need before transaction fees would constitute half of the block reward?

I (as a huge drk supporter) find it quite saddening how we react to criticism and possible flaws. The one above was a nice example.

You know guys, we need to be able to take criticism without becoming emotional. Sure, trolls come and go. But for someone neutral, what we (I mean DRK supporters in this thread) are doing is EXACTLY THE SAME behaviour. Many here are trying to fight trolls with logic, which does not work. Then trying to give them a lecture, explaining how things work in great detail. It doesn't work either. The next step is becoming aggressive, which is exactly what the trolls want to achieve. And the end result is argument thrown back and forth, without actually listening to each other. For a neutral, it's repelling.

Sure, sure, I know you cannot argue with a troll. But since we all know it, why do we even try?

Please guys, without fighting back, first reconsider if you are responsing to someone's constructive criticism, or just a random troll. And act according to this information.
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Don't_feed_the_Troll <- further information here

We also have to make sure not to repel people forming constructive arguments, finding bugs, etc. This is in our own interest. I know there is a thin line between these ard pure troll posts, yet we HAVE TO make a difference. If we treat these people as trolls we drive them away.

Take a look at Evan. What I love about him as that he's always acted professionally. We should try to mimic this. Sure, fanboyism kicks in and we'll get overprotective, but please guys, THINK. If you're answering to a troll by feeding his anger, you are not doing any good - you're the one the troll couldn't exist without.

The ridiculous thing about this whole anonymity tech debate is that it isn't even the thing that's going to make the difference. What will make the difference isn't who's got the most theoretically unbreakable anonymity, it who's got the most practical monetary properties.

In that regard you need rock solid anonymous tech in a practical domain, not a theoretical domain so you don't have to ditch the entire value proposition of your asset.

All this is already stated in the Darkcoin Wiki.

The reason there's such a fudstorm over this is that Darkcoin has far better monetary properties than the cryptonote work-in-progress offerings right now and they don't want to talk about that at any cost because it isn't just their weak point - it's their non-existant point.

A year ago, everything was up for grabs. People thought that Bitcoin would be overtaken by, for example, Peercoin. Contrast that with the situation now: Bitcoin has 487 times Peercoin's marketcap !!

FFS. In the light of that do folks seriously think that tech matters more than legacy-compliance, monetary practicality and marketcap ? That you don't need a practical and balanced approach to ANY feature enhancements whether those be anon, contracts, or whatever else ?

totally agree with Adam White, far to trashy talk in here. Not been into these coins that long and im already sick of the childish behaviour in these forums. Openly knowing half of you are at least 25 years old acting like 12 year olds at times is really embarrassing. How can anybody have a decent conversation that may lead to break through game changing ideas when everybody has more interest in getting involved with abusive language. Out of them all darkcoin has been the most trashy thread i have ever seen.

All of you need to shape up and start acting like responsible investors. Thats what were here for now all of you better grow up and get back to real talk. Arguing on the same level of puppet politicians will get us no where. If anything its a process of devolution. Now stop burying your heads in the sand and start building the god damn castle!

I was going to disappear for a little while but let's just say i'm even more motivated now to dismantle this scam once and for all.

You could start by describing why exactly you think it is a scam, who got scammed, how, and by whom. Just because you get angry in your sense of entitlement because you think you missed the train or dumped before the pump doesn't make something a scam.

Lot of coins were mined in the beginning, coins are being mined still, and most of the coins are yet to be mined. So what is your point? You can't even come up with a coherent reason what is wrong with it except that you don't like it.
