I have to admit, I wasnt 100% convinced on the name, like others were saying...I thought it was ok but we could do better. But afte messing about last night, its started to grow on me. Done in PS for quickness (no vector goodness) Morse code of the left, D -.. A .- S ... H .... I had a few others, but this was prob my fav. This is really really damn close to what I was imagining, thank you so much. I believe we should keep open minds and not chain our selves to the "D"... hehe .. Also, number one on this list is relevant!

There is no key man risk. At worse, slow down of development until someone stands-up to replace him. Or if he comes back. Evan owns this project, quite frankly. Until he give it up completely to the community. Those who dont like that, can go on github and fork the project and do with it what they please!
Well, then there IS "key man risk". Don`t get me wrong. I stick with it, but there IS key man risk. Satoshi owned BTC until he disappeared. Gavin certainly doesn't own it, nor the Foundation.
To be honest, I never quite understood who actually approves or disapproves changes with Bitcoin either (the block size stuff for instance or the decision (by whom??) to go mainstream). As for vertoe, I just looked it up again. He said in my interview that he wasn`t absolutely happy with the name either but that it was going to stay, because it had become a brand. And regarding Darkmarkets, he seemed to me to have the same leveled approach as we have: don`t necessarily use it, but defend it. So no Amir Taaki kind of approach. That`s why I`m wondering what really made him leave.

That`s why I`m wondering what really made him leave. I guess you'll have to interview him again! I have no clue. He just went ape-shit, like EVERYONE did, me included. Look up my posts on DCTtalk, I even pondered resignation from the team and foundation. Because of my gutural adoration for this project, and the offence of a name change, and I'm such a geek, never payed for a windows licence, huge star wars fanatic, finished my hacking career at 14 cracking Amiga 500 game with a single click proggy I found on a freak BBS making me feel like a rock star. But then I calmed down, and with sense and sensibility analysed everything, to be honest, sure but slow, I changed my position completely. Had I not, I would have graciously resigned. vertoe just went ape-shit, put on a tantrum cap, and even showed clear retaliation. The only justification I can find for such undignified actions is if he's a man trying to be a woman and is undergoing intense hormonal therapy. There is no central risk. Look at Spreadcoin. Mr.Spread vanished, community took over. Problem solved.

Otoh is legit member, he never FUDs, ask him on PM if you`re lucky he will respond you sure, i know...point is that if you have 15%, otoh has plenty, then AdamWhite is demonstrably spreading FUD with his "90% owned by one person" claim. of course it's fair to say there is some centralisation of masternodes - like there is with mining, but it's not so bad - there are plenty of folks (like me) with a handful of nodes providing the distributed goodness. Ahhh I understood that Otoh spread FUD Otoh come on, don`t FUD here Nooo I don`t have 15% I wish, but wrote that just to piss a bit AdamBlack

I am quite the opposite of a geek, I am an investment guy (though a libertarian one with solid disrespect of the Fiat Empire) and I assure you there IS key man risk. Just imagine what would happen to the price if the news came out that Evan drops the project (or worse, think of Apple and Steve Jobs). It is a completely different matter that the damage could be repaired. The risk remains. Or the dev team explains it otherwise, but as you explain it, there is some key man risk. I really don`t mean this as fudding or anything, it is part of my job to consider such questions (think of: advising someone wether he should invest in DRK or not and explaining him the pros and cons, the risks and opportunities, doing due dilligence etc.).

Ouch you missing the point of decentralization, we all approve or disapprove changes, its the majority who keeps the network, even if you disapprov you could fork the blockchain at some point with another client, but it will be worthless if noone joins you with that new client! But in the end, the network owns the network and approves or dissaproves changes. Thats one of the main Point of Bitcoin and Altcoins.

Not FUD at all... but very valid points! Again, no key man risk. For instance, vertoe had control over our transifex account. He tried to fuck us over, but could never killed us! We'll just have to create a new account for it, and I hope github can also feed transifex - idk, not geek enough to know - at worse we would have to start with the translations, but since most major ones are at 100% and already in the code, vertoe's move was really really mediocre and below his intellect. If Evan, god forbid, got run over a car tomorrow, of course, price you plummet because essencially HE is Darkcoin. Like Jobs WAS Apple, an no vertoe is not Woz. Jobs died, the company didn't, only the original vision. If Evan simply dissapeared and we could NOT take over or fork the project (because for example it was closed source, or some PGP key, or his fingerprint, etc etc bla bla ) - they you'd be right. There isnt. The rest you speak of is called market speculation. That is part of the engines that drives them and unavoidable. Technically, there is no key man risk - unless I am wrong - as long as things remain open-source

Also, number one on this list is relevant! I really like the concept of Morse code too, just remember, re-branding is a process. If and when we do proceed with a new name. In the short term we would have to go with the "D" logo and colors, if people go to coinmarketcap all of a sudden and see a different logo, colors and name, they will be mislead into thinking is something completely different. We need to continue with the current "D" or a very close spin-off, for a prudent period of time. And then after 6 months or something when we are already known by our new name, we can think of changing more if it is necessary.

showed this design of to a few co-workers with out telling them what it possibly represented.... they think its intriguing.. they asked if it was an app like snapchat or whatsapp ...Guess that means its catchy! Its definitely growing on me. Will masternodes still just be called masternodes? So many questions spinning in my head...but I thought those reactions and initial thoughts from nuetral parties was awesome ...just drink it in for a second and yea that morse code looks SICK

Could we see it without the vertical line of the letter D ?? Like someone suggested and did? I think its brilliant! cash, invert the "c" and make it into a "D" MAN !!! The morse code is GENIUS !! It's good to see people starting to be more receptive in the name change and even using it and mocking up ideas at an unofficial capacity. Just be careful because nothing has been finalized, certainly unknown from a legality standpoint and for the time being, this still remains Darkcoin.
