Not sure if just anyone can access this, but I've started a darkcoin wikipedia page. I haven't submitted the initial draft for review yet - I would appreciate edits, corrections, or feedback from the community to make sure I have everything in here correctly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/DarkCoin

If the link doesn't work, I can try posting the entire page in here for input. Smiley

you should introduce everything with the affiliation to BTC. and explain it in brief detail in your lower section. I'm guessing upper section of definition is still in progress.

------------------

"DEAR WIKIPEDIA READERS: To protect our independence, we'll never run ads. We take no government funds. We survive on donations averaging about 100 kr. Now is the time we ask. If everyone reading this right now gave 30 kr, our fundraiser would be done within an hour. We're a small non-profit with costs of a top 5 website: servers, staff and programs. Wikipedia is something special. It is like a library or a public park where we can all go to think and learn. If Wikipedia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online and ad-free another year. Thank you. "

Too bad they don't accept BTC xD

Idk if I do or not.

Literally this is what i did (all within like 1-2 hours):
-Downloaded Wallet
-Traded .55 btc for 425 DRK on Poloniex
-Withdrew DRK to my QT wallet
-Encrypted wallet
-re-opened it to find no coins, new address, not encrypted

I have a wallet.dat file....idk if its from my original wallet though? How can I test that out?

I've got to be up early tmrw...but I have a bad feeling about this.

How the fuck did this happen.  Darkcoin devs??

When I go to properties of my wallet.dat I see this:

-Created: Yesterday, ‎February ‎26, ‎2014, ‏‎10:48:06 PM

-Modified: Yesterday, ‎February ‎26, ‎2014, ‏‎11:51:19 PM

10:48 sounds about the time I originally downloaded the wallet
11:51 sounds about the time I encrypted my wallet.

I think I have the wallet.dat to the new address. How did encrypting my wallet change the fucking wallet.dat file??

Always make a backup of your wallet after you have all the blocks downloaded, keep it in several places...and dont copy it while the client is running!

Literally had just downloaded the wallet, hadn't backedup yet. However I have a wallet.dat file. Let's even say that that file doesn't have the coins on it, still it should be associated with my first address.

Somehow that wallet.dat file mysteriously changed from being associated with one address to another....

If I can't get it.....is there anyway someone can, idk hack into the address somehow?

You can make a backup of your wallet while the wallet is running IF you  use that function from the menu.  Anyway, you said above that you had the old wallet.dat file, so if you do, make a copy, name it wallet.dat and open up your .Darkcoin file which should be located C:/User/yourname/AppData/Roaming/.DarkCoin and replace the wallet.dat in there with the one you saved earlier.

Did you get your coins???

I've been working with CHAOSiTEC for the last 45 minutes or so. I don't have them yet, but we're working on it.

He's been very helpful. I'm quite appreciative.

Edit: Also an honest guy. He could have stolen all my coins.

or,

its a glitch somewhere else

Well, thank goodness we have you!  If it's a glitch, I hope it'll be found or else you will have to quit your day job and take care of us clients the rest of your life, LOL

BTW:  I just read something tonight on the bitcoin wallet, and since our wallets are based on the bitcoin wallet, I'll have to assume it's true of ours.  I read that the wallet creates 100 addresses, and you use them up for everything you do, such as send someone a payment, receive a payment, etc... I think it even "uses up" an address for payments from mining.  Anyway, once you use them up, the wallet creates 100 new addresses.

The  point being that if you think, as I did, that you only need one, original backup of your wallet, it's not so!  You're constantly using up that 100 addresses, and if you don't re-save your wallet.dat file after the next 100 addresses are created and used, and something happens, all the newer transactions can be lost to you!

So maintaining your wallet backups is extremely important.  You need to guesstimate how often you need to backup, or simply backup often.  You can do it with the wallet backup function on the main menu, I forget which drop-down item, 'cause I don't have my wallet on this machine to look at, but from there, you can name the file, something like DarkCoin_2-26-14.dat and save it anywhere you like from that menu.  No need to close the wallet even.
