What happened to the pump last night? Just keeps going down.
It's actually going back up now. It appears that some people decided to jump ship and get Auroracoin, the latest scamcoin out with 50% premine and 0 % innovation other than an a shady (and most likely unrealistic) promise to distribute the premine to the people of Iceland. The Aurora dump has already started to happen. The stupidity and greed of people never ceases to amaze me. This is one of the only coins out there that actually has one of the most promising features right around the corner. I'm actually continuing to buy Dark since the price is low now. A month from now, Auroracoin will not even be remembered. Yeah that coin obviously isnt worth $25 lol. Darkcoin was dumped earlier this morning. Price went up. Now its going back down again. Too much of a rollercoaster for me. Im going to wait a few days and let the dust settle and see what happens. That coin isn't even worth a cent especially with a 50% premine. Everyone knows that. It's just greedy traders thinking they can catch the pump and double or triple their investment in a day (of which many just got burnt). Don't worry, Dark will eventually go up. We just need to do more marketing and get more publicity for it.

I know a lot of work has been done on design, and some of the things I've seen here are really good, but I think that we should clear the design matters and move on. I would like to suggest a contest that we sponsor through 99design.com They have loads of designers that provide their templates and ideas, from which we can choose. they have a survey system where we can vote and rate logos. I've worked with them in the past on 2 different start-ups that I was involved in. We received a range of ideas that we could not have obtained from any single designer, and it opened our minds to different directions. Logo design costs $299 and I'm sure we can raise that sum easily, give it to the dev team [or someone else] and he can manage the process. In addition, we can leverage such a contest to draw more people to the community. Just my 2cents, and I will completely understand if ppl prefer to keep the design matters in-house and quite.

I think, given the MtGox situation which became official, there is a pull from altcoins to BTC as a salvage operation. It's possible that some investors only have BTCs which were in altcoins as part of their diversification, and perhaps, these invested BTCs were the only thing they've got right now. Eduffield, as a professional writer I'm up for helping you out with any proof-reading of copy (and suggesting edits or improvements) for the Darkcoin website...
If you want a helping hand actually writing the content, I am glad to offer you my assistance.

Notice how the percentages don't change when you switch between USD and BTC viewing mode. Numerous people have asked to peg those percentages to BTC when viewing the site in BTC mode. The coinmarketcap.com site editor said he will fix it soon. If you look at % change relative to BTC, all of those percentages would be 4.46% higher, making many of them closer to 0% or even positive.

I think that would only affect coins which are actually traded in USD, like Litecoin which is a bit off at 0.02418, not coins traded exclusively in BTC as the USD calculation itself is based on the btc:altcoin ratio. Dividing and then multiplying by the same amount (to BTC => to USD => to BTC) gives the same result, so...?

DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash."
+1 But that's why I think its better to call it D-coin or something else (not related to dark) New people will think that darkcoin is related to illegal things and thats not the intention, idea of it. Maybe it will scare/put off (I don't know the right word) some people...No? I tend to agree with this. The name itself will be the reason darkcoin is never widely accepted by, er, "normal" people (also can't think of the right word sorry). It doesn't matter how great it is, give it a shady or evil sounding name and it's doomed. The cool name is what attracted me to click on the thread and give it read back when the price was .00038 BTC/DRK. I think the name is badass. Agreed. Nice username btw Also, Poloniex got a trollbox

If dark can provide anonymous "dark" transactions it could be called purple unicorn coins for all I care.. Dark is good branding for people in the know ie tor darknet stuff. If joe blow isn't aware of what dark means he will soon enough.. with every Snowden leak or bullshit passed law/corrupt lawless judge's decision is making people more aware. It is like built in marketing because we all know what governments agenda is just like how cypress bumped up bitcoin. I could give 2 shits about branding and market cap. Freedom is where it's at, make a coin that facilitates free commerce even silk road style commerce that bypasses bullshit laws and market cap & awareness will take care of itself. Makes me wonder why people are here promoting an anonymous coin if they care about mainstream perceptions.. perhaps cat coin is the better choice for them.

I like the sound of "purple unicorn"-coin though. The dogecoin of the the black market. So lsd, much wow!

Not that I condone criminal activity, but to be honest, that is how bitcoins gained some traction. I don't think any rational person will see the name darkcoin and say, oh, I can't use that, as it's an evil coin used for bad things. If so, they wouldn't use bitcoins or any currency either. It's not like someone made a coin called devilcoin (although give them time, they are sort of running out of names).... Bitcoin - litecoin - darkcoin ... has a nice ring to it, and perhaps darkcoin becomes the copper to litecoin's silver. Although litecoin isn't doing particularly well either lately. Let the tech speak for itself. The statement "silver to bitcoin's gold" is a marketing gimmick and a complete joke. It has nothing to do with what ltc offers other than total supply but that is not really relevant because BTC divisibility (physical item comparison is irrelevant) and flood of scrypt coins.

To be honest I don't see why the word "Dark" has to be relative to criminal activity... I'd say it's more relative to the anonymous aspect of the coin. The blockchain is in the dark, transactions made in darkness. Darkness provides a means to be unseen, and that's what DarkCoin is doing in a way.
that certainly was the original intention...

The name is irrelevant, Bitcoin was not adopted because its name but more so because of libertarian values and adopters/enthusiasts being aware of what is going on the economy/banking. Agreed! Why the hell would average joe be interrested in this coin already? There is already bitcoin for your every day needs if you dont care too much about being anonymous. I like the sound of "purple unicorn"-coin though. The dogecoin of the the black market. So lsd, much wow! While I agree completely that the name is irrelevant when considering the technological and political advances, I don't think you can rule out the importance of a good name, branding, and marketing. Most startups fail because of distribution issues rather than technology issues. The more engineering-minded tend to place all the importance on technology, that this product will sell itself. Very few products actually succeed in selling themselves. If you look at Dogecoin, you can see the power of great marketing and branding. The technology is completely worthless and the coin will no doubt fail long term, but without widespread awareness of a brand name/coin, the coin will also invariably fail long term. Look at the viral success of Apple products(I know another touchy subject for bitcoin enthusiasts atm). With Apple, a business model of function following form created the largest company in the world. I'm not saying in order to succeed Darkcoin has to focus primarily on branding, but it has to be a high priority for the best chances of widespread adoption.

stealthcoin, shadowcoin, greybutnotsoshadycoin.... no point was made that day..
The next day though:
Anyone have a nice config for Sapphire r9 290?
rig 1 (2x290): d0 - 2040 Kh/s, d1 2150 Kh/s
rig 2 (7970,280x): d0 - 2050 Kh/s, d1 - 2100 Kh/s
I should be able to push the 290s right?
I *think* bring the thread concurrency up until it doesn't want to start, then bring the intensity up. There you have to find a balance. Watch your output for invalids and also, I've found that just because my miner says I'm mining at a certain rate, my rate on my pool's website (plug in Lotterypool here, LOL) shows lower if my intensity is too high, or higher if my intensity is just right! The hashing algorithm seems to have a different effect on the settings than scrypt!

Actually, I see Darkcoin becoming MySpace's FaceBook! I'm not thinking small UntraceableCoin
