For fcks sake.  Whoever it was up thread who said that bitcoin payments were instant anyway was so full of shit.

I've been waiting 20 minutes for 1 confirmation of a BTC transaction.  Its like watching paint dry.

To be fair, he didn't say that they were instant, just that for a small purchase it didn't matter because merchants could afford not to wait for confirmations due to the low risk of somebody trying a double spend attack on small amounts.

He is right that for most of the small things it doesn't make sense to wait, but it is undeniable that having instant transactions is way better than not having them! At this moment people don't do double spend attacks to avoid paying for coffee, but if somehow it became easier to do them (maybe a new wallet designed for that? I'm no expert, just a quick thought, the ease of attacking could come from many places) then it would break many things apart.
I've made quite a few DRK payments today and have noticed that 6 confirmations seems to be happening a bit quicker than it recently used to.  I wonder if more people have wallets open now days?

That won't confirmation time at all - it's built into the protocol, 1 block every 1.5 minutes on average.

The variance is so large in block times that any difference you perceive is just the variance.

The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Well fuck me. I have no idea why I thought it was 1.5 but that explains so much... Using 40 blocks per hour as opposed to 24 is going to have substantially different results in terms of profitability.... Glad I made that post, wish I had done so sooner.

I believe Evan found a way to speed up the confirmations. That would make sense. He can use the masternode network after all
with all those servers online. We'll just have to wait and see.
Well the time for confirmations changes from time to time, it just depends on luck.
There were times when 1 took 40minutes and plus.
Hopefully Evan shares his ideas soon with us, I'm curious to see what he plans on doing to speed it all up.

I wonder if it (really, not just artificially/virtually) involves the masternodes (which are - at least for now - practically unique for DRK) or easy to copy by any random BTC-like coin (without copying the whole masternode system).

Probably involves masternodes, otherwise he would not write a white paper and share it with the world before implementing.

The latest shift for the Darkcoin multipool paid out over 89 DRK.
Even though my percentage of participation is going down, my payouts are going up. The extra hashes that are showing up are increasing block finds. I made almost 50% more in this shift than I did on the same shift last week, and I am running the same 3.3TH/s I have been from the beginning.

Tell me any other way you can mine and make MORE down the road than you did in the past? And, it's paid 100% in DRK! Is there any such thing as a better mining pool? I don't think so...

Oh; titcoin? Really? Whatever, as long as it gets me paid moar DRKs...

There is no way - in my mind - it doesn't involve them.

Evan may be smart, very smart - but there are a lot of people nearly as smart or maybe even smarter than him that have spent a lot of time trying to solve this problem with bitcoin. Now I'm not saying that if there was a solution they surely would have found it - but it seems hard for me to believe that it wouldn't have been solved before today if a "universal" solution existed. And this then points to masternodes.

That being said evan has been willing to think further outside the box than many other people in the cryptocurrency world, so who knows.

But I am dieing to see his implementation.

Evan is William Wallace of Cryptocurrency world.
Lets hope things work out better for Evan than for Wallace eh?

Quote
Following the trial, on 23 August 1305, Wallace was taken from the hall to the Tower of London, then stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield.[26] He was hanged, drawn and quartered — strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burnt before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head (dipped in tar) was placed on a pike atop London Bridge. It was later joined by the heads of the brothers, John and Simon Fraser. His limbs were displayed, separately, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Stirling, and Perth.
Gotta get through me first. Not impossible, but certainly not worth the price...

Even with 10 perfect solutions in hand, BTC won't implement.

It's not that they can't do it.

It's that they refuse.

That's because Bitcoin doesn't have side chains yet. When it does, you can have super fast transactions.

What's your strategy here ? Your coin (Cloak) is going down and you want to bring DRK down with you ? That's sad but go troll somewhere else.

I speculate it will be an evolution of the pre-mixed coins... kind-of "pre-spent" coins that one simply takes ownership of in some way. Whether it is, or it's not, there'll probably be some catch associated, otherwise there would be the "it would take a lot of money to attack it"... so it must be vulnerable but if the attacker has more to lose by attacking it, then it shouldn't matter.

Again pure speculation as the info is scarce, so let's wait and see Grin

Makes sense... denomed coins are already signed, a lot... Essentially denom makes them pre-vetted to the network, so...

Heh... Antonopoulos was speaking about the trollfest and paranoia that goes on in cryptoland

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qEi5fQcVak

...and how some things go on in a very predictable pattern. That's around the 37-39m.

(from around 22m to 37m he talks about the cryptonote scam accusations, monero scam accusations, ring signatures etc.)
