A skinny, 23-year-old hacker in a green "Doge" t-shirt gave us an answer today. At ethereum's flagship conference, Devcon, project creator Vitalik Buterin revealed he has been quietly working on a new long-term plan for the future of the blockchain network. What he called a "modest proposal," it's perhaps better described as a three-to-four-year roadmap for ethereum's technical development.

Notably at the heart of the vision is a long-in-the-making technical change to ethereum called "sharding," and while always expected to be included in the protocol's plans, today Buterin proposed what might be his most solidified strategy for the technique to date.

As such, the roadmap hints at problems yet to be solved on the platform, and as the emphasis on scalability for project developers. Great to see some ambitious announcements from Vitalik. Ethereum is far from dead. In fact it is so much better than Bitcoin, technology-wise, and this has to reflect on price, sooner or later. I don't think it can dip much lower than it is now. I HODL.

It seems that before the btc hardfork in 2 weeks it will not stop climbing (literally like crazy, I even suspect 10k is a realistic limit now), while all other alts including eth dip. Also with eth fork and increased supply, its price steadily goes down. Which actually makes it a good investment time.

Whenever there is a fork coming in Bitcoin my whole portfolio (include more of altcoin than Bitcoin) become deep red... :-(

Well, usually the focus and the hype of the mass it's like a spotlight, can focus only to one theme. Moreover, remeber that in the altcoin world there is a lot of speculation, so it's normal that the hype is shifting from a coin to another one

Ethereum has a lot of competitors but none of them have the similar level Ethereum has. You can find smart contracts, token creation etc. in other projects but they are immature yet. In the future there will be better competitors but right now Ethereum is at the top.

Who knows? With ICO managers dumping Ethereum it might take a while. Would need fresh blood from outside of the crypto world to significantly drive the price up. I really don't think that Ethereum is the best hodl coin, considering it's used to invest in ICOs and fuel them.

ethereum is not without reason the #2 cryptocurrerncy.
